Hotel was comfortable very central in Carlisle breakfast was okay.

The reason for 5 stars is down to the staff all of whom were kind and helpful, particularly Michael. The room was very clean but has certainly seen better days and the bathroom was very cramped although had a good shower. The hotel is well situated in the centre of Carlisle in the heart of the shopping area.

We've stayed before and it was lovely so thought we would repeat the experience. Unfortunately the bed was so uncomfortable it left us exhausted and ready to go home to recover. The girl on the desk apologised but to be honest didn't seem that bothered. The king bed was zip locked and was either broken or just not fastened. The two mattresses didn't match in height by almost two inches and my husbands side was so soft he felt he was either rolling onto me or off the edge. Now my husband can sleep sitting uprjght so if he got a bad night it was bad.
I hope they sort this out for the next guests as it was such a shame and as we were only staying the night we had to just get on with it.

Wonderful hotel and the staff is just outstanding. Pool and hot tub added to the relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast had a big spread and was done to perfection; options for allergies were available in abundance. Thank you for an unforgettable experience and stay.

The hotel was clean, the location was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Parking not clearly signposted. Had to park on street 5 minutes away. Room rate £106 for room only, 1 night stay. The room I was subjected to is in desperate need of TLC, wash basin still in room, dated and worn furniture and bathroom area. A poor indication of what Carlisle City centre has to offer in a prime location. Crown & Mitre, if you expect a nightly rate like this, offer something to substantiate it. Will be staying elsewhere on my business trips in the future.

We came for a long weekend ,everything in the hotel was as we wished it to be.

The room was more than ample, clean and very comfortable. Tea/Coffee was available 24hrs, even some biscuits too! The bathroom was spacious and the only comment (which I did make to reception) was to question why my soap bar was changed everyday (hence my "negative" score re. ec0-friendly) even if I had only used it once or twice the day before.
I did not eat in the restaurant but did enjoy a bar snack. Breakfast the first day was "ordered" as opposed to buffet the other days I stayed. I arrived for breakfast in the Market Room at 0830 and I noticed that that the buffet was withdrawn at 0850 except my last morning when it was 0905. The choice was "typical" although I would encourage staff to clean around the floor of the table before seating the next guest as I found that where I sat was messy with crumbs from the previous guest(s).
All that said, I would recommend the Crown and Mitre for a short stay. It's location overlooking the square and its proximity to the train station makes it a very convenient option to stay in Carlisle. Pricing is within most budgets with club and other rooms costing slightly more.
The bed in my room was very comfortable and the lighting was more than adequate. Black out curtains guarantee a long night's sleep. There is a small lift available too. With my "eco-friendly" observation, I would still give Crown and Mitre a 9 out of 10.

Nice stay for a single night, clean, convenient, lovely staff.

The bed was very old and poor quality, so my sleep was not very comfortable.
The building is very old, which is part of its character, but it means the facilities in the bathroom in particular are hugely outdated. Most of the features were covered in rust. It was clean, but not the best.
Also, because the building is old the windows are very thin and it was a bit noisy, and the curtains were falling off the rail.
Some of the staff could have been better with their customer service. When checking in I was not advised that i would have to put a card on my account if i wanted to use room service. So when i called down to order food, i was told i couldn't. The person i spoke to was not very communicative, not very helpful and did not seem particularly interested in resolving any issues.
The staff at breakfast were good though.

We had a lovely stay.
Very good location in the centre. Our room was fine. We were in the roof space but it was adequate and the bathroom was a reasonable size. They are updating the property but hadn’t done the room we stayed in.
Breakfast was nice. It was very busy. In the vending when we got back they served us at the hotel bar even though it had been closed. Overall a great stay.

Beautiful hotel needs updating.
Chairs in bar need to be thrown out some of them.
Bar area too cold to sit and relax.
Art deco windows and staircase along with dining room provide beautiful focal points.

An absolute beautiful hotel. We were travelling through on our way to Scotland and just stayed the night. Staff were fab, cleans were big, clean and well equipped. Situated in the centre of the city for ase of shopping. Had dinner and food was very well priced and good portions. Breakfast was amazing

Great central hotel probably the best in Carlisle

A well kept hotel in the centre of Carlisle close to everything. A grand building with character. A pleasant check-in, clean and comfortable room although the heat leakage out of the windows doesn’t bear thinking about. A bit of draught proofing would soon repay and keep the heating cost down?
A good breakfast with plenty of choice was offered. There is a bar and the recently reopened pool was very much appreciated.
Certainly a welcoming place to stay in Carlisle. I hope to return.

Comfiest bed I have slept in.
It would of been nicer being in the main building rather than the annex.

Lovely old building with beautiful windows. Window in room rattled quite a lot in the night. But told the staff on reception. Wouldn’t stop me staying there again though.

Our first issue was finding the car park. Yes it is small, but it's gated so very secure. The post code we were given, tried to take us down a pedestrian street. After 25 minutes, 3 circuits of Carlisles one way systems and instructions from the concierge, we finally made it. The parking directions could definitely be more clearer.
The Edwardian features are noticeable from the moment you walk through the door. From the sweeping staircase, to the high ceilings, and large fireplaces. Our room was a nice size, more amenities than you need, aside from the pigeon sat on our window ledge, the room was quiet. The buffet breakfast had a nice selection, you are given your own pot of tea, or coffee and as the milk and sugar etc are provided on each table, there isn't very many people wander around, only those topping up their plate.
My only complaints are that we booked a king-size room, which had 2 single beds pushed together, except one of the latches was broken and if you sat/ lay in the wrong place on the bed, the beds started to move apart and that's not great when it's 3am. There's a gap between the bed and the wall, which is just the right size to loose your pillows down. Lastly, the room looked very clean, carpet too, until I knealt on the carpet it black jeans and the fluff, dust and human hairs attached to shins of my jeans, it wasn't great at all.

Beautiful Edwardian hotel. Came for a graduation ceremony at the nearby catherdral. Perfect location as many connected events are held at the hotel.
5.0
Beautiful Edwardian hotel unspoilt and more or less as originally built.Only the Staffs attire shattered the allusion but that’s not an issue .would definitely return.
It was cosy and warm unusual for a very large old building.
The evening meal was excellent we did not have breakfast.
