Hotel is ideally located, quality and overall room condition is well below average standards. Shower regulater didn't work, although a late booking, the shower was larger than shower space the fixtures were dated, although some upgrading in some places ongoing. Breakfast was ok and the staff was helpful and friendly. The carpets are well used an tired

Free car park but quite small and tight. Stayed here twice and got a space ok both times.
Rooms are small and basic but clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was from 7am and was excellent.
Staff very friendly.

The Sun was generally tired but clean and staff were polite.
Our issue was the nightclub next to the hotel our room overlooked Sun Street were taxis and picks up were happening along with large crowds of rowdy nightclub individuals at one point 50 plus of them right below our room. Noise went on until 2.15am
Nightmare night of sleep.

Me and my parter checked in around 3am then but got advised to call the number on the door and the nightstaff was very kind and helpful upon arrival checked us in no issues. I only booked the hotel because i was under the assumption i could check out at 12pm which was my mistake. We woke up around 11:30am by the manager I'm guessing, repeatedly knocking on the door to which my partner opened the door and said were just getting ready sorry we'll be a few mins. The lady then repeatedly kept knocking to which then i opened the door and said yes we heard you sorry were literally leaving. Then the lady then said were meant to check out at 11 so we're going to be charged for it and that she was going to call the police! I was sooo SHOCKED IN DISBELIEF i replied " sorry " ??? Im still shell-shocked by the attitude she had against us and have also taken it further by letting head office of green to deal with incident that occurred because nobody should have the right to speak to anyone like that. We simply checked in and went straight to sleep within 15-20 mins as we were both shattered. She was an eastern european lady with no professional experience in talking to customers. Highly rude and avoid her at all costs. Im sure head office will certainly take this seriously once reading the email of ordeal we went through. Disgraceful and absolutely appalled by how she conducted herself.

Lovely staff, great breakfast though they cooked wrong order they were so apologetic we almost felt bad. Checkin staff were great. The hotel is in ancient buildings so don't expect noise insulation, double glazing etc. The room was clean, large and comfortable. Bathroom was bit cramped but clean and good water pressure. Our room was one first floor over hotel entrance. Might have been noisy earlier but we were out till midnight and had no issues. Lovely location in olde worlde town centre. Parking was free and fine, glad we had sat nav to find it, it's down a windy access road. There were about 5 spaces left at 630pm so maybe you would struggle if arriving later. Overall good experience, would stay again but it is a basic not luxury experience.

Beautiful old building but could do with a major refurbishment- carpets and bathrooms are very tired. There was a party going on in the pub the night I stayed, so it was pretty noisy.

The property was very tired and didn’t seem very clean. Everything was fine but seemed like it hadn’t been updated in a long time.

Allocated room 9 & the heating didn’t work. Although to be fair there was a plug in radiator, but it wasn’t warm enough.
Reallocated room 25. Which was a better room but the toilet wouldn’t flush solid waste away. It was fixed twice but still had issues.
The staff were excellent though & offered to fix any complaints.

Nothing like the pictures at all. Very dated,
Noisy pipe work throughout the night and paper thin walls.

The room was clean and comfortable albeit in need of some modernisation but this fact wouldn't stop me from staying here again. The staff very excellent as was a very delicious freshly cooked breakfast. Ideal location for the centre of Hitchin.

For £105.00 on a Saturday evening in November this place was ‘pricy’. Considering you can get high quality budget accommodation nowadays for a lot lower price, this place is pushing it for the price. Well located in the heart of Hitchen, close to a 15 car parking allocation and all the shops within Hitchen centre you really are paying for the location. The room was adequate, had a funny smell (damp like) facilities weren’t amazing but ticked a box as available (iron, hair dryer, Tv, kettle, mirror etc. the shower was pretty tight - if your a big bloke you’ll struggle. If I’d of paid £50 for this it would have matched the price. Probably wouldn’t stay again.

We had a poor nights sleep because the fan in the bathroom never went off. We tried to resolve the problem, but couldn’t.

The hotel beds are very comfortable.
However,I was charged twice for our stay.
I’m still waiting for my enquiry to be dealt with, could not get an answer from the Sun hotel despite numerous attempts

Nice comfy beds, room was a bit dark and needed a new bulb in main light, informed cleaners. Generous with tea and coffee when asked for more. Very helpful.

Don't like leaving poor reviews but feel it necessary. The lady who welcomed me at reception was excellent! Problems came with the room, for a large "historic" town centre hotel the room conditions (and the approaches to them) are shocking, furniture old and stained, bathroom condition very poor, mould between tiling, unable to adjust shower head as feeder pipe not long enough, Shower curtain!! bath stained, bath surround a disgrace! Would I eat in a Hotel with rooms like this? Would I feel comfortable recommending this hotel to a friend? Sorry but no.

I have used this hotel many times for business visits. Its location is great. Free parking is great. The building is quirky and old and i like that. Dont mind if windows are bit dodgy or bathrooms bit tired. However i stayed 3 nights this time and there was no housekeeping at all despite the fact i put the sign on door asking them to clean it. No clean mugs left for coffee. The bath was not cleaned and there was no shower. So i couldnt use it after first night as it needed cleaning. There was no wifi in my room at all. The desk staff are nice when they are there. But they really need to address the housekeeping. I stay a few times a year but may now need to look elsewhere.

Very enjoyable stay. We tried to extend but they were booked out. Very helpful staff, including the kitchen who served us we think after time.

Right in the middle of Hitchin. Convenient location to train station and public transport, great spot for local restaurants and pubs. Super clean rooms. There was construction going on outside the building at the time of my stay. So overall cleanliness was great.
Very friendly staff.
Overall excellent.

A nice friendly place in the centre of the town but let down by poor checks and cleanliness. A filled basin when I arrived. Just why?

The room (19) should not be listed as a room, after a walk up and around the whole building, you get to the room and there are more stairs. It's a converted loft that only has half the room usable (I'm 5ft 8 and banged my head far too many times). You can't stand up to use the toilet. There's no shower only a bath, not ideal if youre after a quick freshen up before heading out.
When crossing from the bedroom to the bathroom, you cross the landing of the top of the stairs, which encroach in to the way over, very dangerous.
The staff were very nice though, very polite and proactive.

The room was not clean quite the opposite. Very shabby in the room and in all areas of the hotel, it needs a good face lift. Staff were very nice and helpful and food was good.

Property very tired, lots of maintenance issues. Breakfast not a great experience.
3.0
The hotel is very obviously in need of significant expenditure on refurbishment. It is shabby in the extreme and even though the location is good as is the parking it is very difficult to understand why it benefits from a 3 star rating - I suggest 2 stars is the absolute best it deserves. I will definitely not be staying there again.

This is a 16th century building so many allowances can be made for condition. Frayed/torn carpets, yellowed mattresses and scratched/torn headboards are not on the list of things that can be forgiven.
General cleanliness was good, location is great and staff are lovely but rooms need some serious TLC.

I've found some good and some average rooms and service here on different occasions. The on site parking and location is great. But parts of this room were tatty, the curtains fell off when i opened them, i told reception who said theyd fix it for my 2nd night, but didn't. No spoons for tea/coffee each day, but plenty tea/coffee/milk and good kettle in room. Very noisy pidgeons outside this room and the banging of pots and pans very early in the morning, combined with no curtain, dod not provide for a good night's sleep.

. 2 night stop . Lovely historic old Coaching Inn , however , if it could go wrong it did .
Room was actually 30 metres away from the Inn . No wifi but a noisey plant room adjacent to keep me company all through the night
1st night no heating , 1st breakfast disorganised , 2nd night, no hot water , I'm not Scandinavian so icy cold showers aren't my thing - then no power or lights as workmen were on site and had cut the power. Apologies were made and promises that the manager would contact me to mske amends .. still waiting .

Very tired and in desperate need of an overhaul! Stained carpets, mould in the bathroom. Although the bedding was clean, no pillow protectors. Dirty stains on walls. Curtains not hung properly.

A great hotel right in the centre of the town. Great location, friendly staff and superb service. Breakfast was included and excellent. Will definitely be back.

Rundown and unwelcoming…
This Olde English Inn is very old in terms of the age of the building and in the state of the rooms which require urgent modernisation and refurbishment to bring them anyway near to acceptable for the modern traveller these days.
From the start, if the stay when I experienced one of the rudeness and most arrogant welcomes from a member of reception staff that I have ever received I should have realised that this stay was going to be a poor one.
The route to the room was via a network of corridors and a steep set of curved stairs to the room door, one entry, on a very wet and cold day, the windows were wide open hence the room was like an icebox and then you discover that the hotel’s central heating is not working and the only means of heat was a small electric radiator which was never adequate for the job of heating a very cold room.
Turning on the old television failed to produce any channels and a retune was in order, the Wi-Fi was good when you could connect to the service.
The décor of the room was poor and required a refurbishment as did the awful bathroom which had not been updated for many decades, the shower was especially pathetic.
Then we come to the noise, you could hear everything that was said in the adjacent rooms including the passionate sex and the use of the toilet coupled this with the noise when guests walked down the corridor past the room then you can see why I did not get much sleep that night.

Local, steps away from the Hitchin market, restaurants, pubs, very oldy worldy which i like.
3.0
Clean, comfortable room and very well priced breakfast - but most notable for the excellent, friendly and helpful staff.
