I asked the staff for a very late check-in (11pm), due to transportation issues, and they were very understanding and help me out with no dificulties at my arrival

I wasn’t planning on even leaving a review because I think this place caters to a certain demographic and for that demographic it is maybe a cool happening place. Here’s what I didn’t like:
1. The RUDEST staff. Everyone in puerto viejo was so kind and welcoming. I feel like they actively had to search for the rudest most unwelcoming people they could find.
2. Forget about trying to find this place in the dark. There’s a tiny tiny sign that says Selina which is not very lit at night. When I called the front desk for help they were wildly unhelpful then the security guard was also unhelpful when trying to figure out where to park when the gates were both locked.
3. I had a private room. It was FULL of mold and pretty gross. The toilet leaked from the bottom all over the bathroom floor and constantly smelled like poop.
4. I was feeling sick and asked the bar to SELL me a cup of ice, I offered to pay and did not ask for it for free. They would not SELL me a cup of ice (honestly should have been free but ok, I get it I’ll pay if that’s a policy). THEY WOULD NOT SELL ME A CUP OF ICE WHEN I FELT SICK AND JUST WANTED ICE WATER. That was really the straw that broke the camels back. They bartender went over to the “boss” likely the manager or owner to ask and he just said no. What an abysmal policy. They said because there’s a “festival” well I’m not part of the festival (literally 10 people in front of a dj booth, and 4 people at the bar) I’m a paying guest at the hostel who also

Very friendly and helpful team. Good location, close to Puerto Viejo and Cocles. Our suite was very spacious and quite with a good size fridge. In general very good but a bit expensive for what you get.

We had a nice stay. My son loved the pool and the location was great. It was a nice quiet spot right on the beach with a cool hike through the jungle.

It is gampling for 150 dollars.. it doesnt value the cost. Good service but the room is too old, bed is no longer usable it needs to be changed, it is impossible to sleep well here. It is a 20 dollars room from my experience.

My stay here was amazing! For that little bit extra per night compared to other hostels in the area you really do get a luxurious hostel which offers a lot of activities for the guests and a very high quality of service from the staff! When i arrived there was a problem with my reservation and instead of not letting me stay they upgraded me to a private room at no extra charge! I made a last minute decision to extend my stay for 2 nights and they were very accomodating and gave me another private room! The rooms i stayed in were always spotless and i ate in the hostel nearly every day due to the high quality of the food!

Selina is the place to be if you wanna make friends and have fun. It is located a few minutes from Playa Cocles the most popular in Puerto Viejo. Staff is very friendly and the place has all kind of activities to make your day entertain or relaxing as you wish. The property is big and with beach access. Rooms have all type of options from shared dorms till private king. There’s a common kitchen where you can cook yourself and fridge storage or the restaurant has a full day service if you rather don’t cook. So you can choose what type of experience you want to have, knowing that is a priority for the chain to relate within guest as weekend parties are big event in the area.

For the price this property is disappointing. No ecological aspects to be seen, crappy mattress, bad shower and the list goes on. More like a dressed up campsite than a proper hotel

It was good overall. I just wish the place was a little bit taken care of.

Had a great experience. The resort was in a central location and close to everything. Staff were great and would definitely stay here again. The resort is adorable and clean. Pura Vida!

The hotel is divided into two sections. On one side of the street, you have the hostel, which has a pool, kitchen and restaurant. On the other side of the street, you have rooms and tents, quieter side of the two.
The hostel can arrange tours / surfing etc. Beach is about 5-7 minutes walk. Puerto Viejo town is about 15 minutes walk.
Restaurant is tad expensive compared to restaurants in the town.

I like Selina, it was the second time I’ve stayed here. Love the vibes, the pool, the music and the beachfront. Good food, kind staff. I don’t like that the hit tubs are never warm, the lockers in the dorms are busted or in bad shape, bathrooms could use some remodeling, single lamps on the dorms like Selina San Jose would be such a big plus. Other than that it’s my favorite place in Puerto Viejo so far

Overall a good stay. 10 min walk into town can rent a bike at hostel if needed. Good vibes at the bar with food and drinks. (Did stay in private room not in dorm)

Do not book a reservation here.
They canceled our reservation even though we showed up at 3:00 pm on the day we had a reservation. At first they acted like they were just getting our room ready, then we finally realized that they didn't have a room for us. They had given our room away and shrugged it off like, "it's a busy weekend." I responded with, "I know, that's why we booked a reservation before coming here."
All the hotels in town were sold out. We ended up having to drive for hours in the dark and rain through a mountain pass arriving at San Jose around 11:00 pm.

I like the jungle feeling with all the trees in the property.

Selina is such a great spot for those who seek a social, backpacker-type of stay but without too much loud parties going on. Perfect location and great service with access to book all kinds of adventures from the hotel.

The property itself was nice, the cabin they put us in was across the street from the actual property, that should have been disclosed in the booking. The amenities were fine except no coffee maker and when we asked at the front desk they looked at us like they did not know what a coffee maker was, had to go out and buy a sock coffee maker or pay for it at the bar, for $150.00 a night you would think coffee would be free. Bartenders could keep the bar tab correct, so there was a few disagreements there.

Very good value for that price!
Friendly and helpful staff. Nice and clean kitchen. Swimmingpool a big plus!
Sloths in the garden!

Selina is located in between of the "dowtown" Puerto Viejo and the best beaches in the world. Very close to both of them. The pool and the pool area are perfect for a lazy day with a book. The food in the restaurant is very good and varied. I will be back!

Put me in a (Deluxe) room NOTHING like the pictures. I complained, got upgraded to a room with a guest already in it! After that was sorted out, we had NO HOT WATER for rest of stay. Entire hostel needs a deep clean, paint job and round of maintenance. Filthy shower floors, cracked paint and stains all over walls, cracks in the walls, falling apart shower doors.
Only savior is location which we liked and the pool/bar area although kind of dirty was fun. Staff were also friendly and helpful but the overall management of this hostel is terrible. 100% do not reccomend.

Pool was very nice; property right beside the beach (not for swimming though); saw lots of sloths and wildlife which was awesome. Was a little far from the main core of Puerto Viejo - so when your'e getting off the bus, it's a pretty far walk.

This place is pretty cool. Highly recommend sleeping in the teepees. No shortage of jungle noises - including the Howlers. Small rooms and no air - but surprisingly temperate and comfortable. Recommend bug spray as there is no shortage of cracks. We sprayed door and window frames and were without incident. Communal toilets and showers were unexpectedly clean. Very unique and worth a night or two.

Great staff and service. Awesome, location on the beach and 5 min. walk to a swimming beach. 15 min. walk to town which is nice because the hostel is located in a more quite area. Great food in bar and nice atmosphere with daily nightly events. Very good WiFi.However, this hostel is highly expensive compared to what you get. Low quality private rooms and often cold showers. Most private rooms are very small. Shared bathrooms could be cleaner. Woke up between 6-7am daily due to noise from construction on site. Shared kitchen is often dirty and pans and equipment are in poor condition. Due to all this, asked for a refund but was denied.

Selina is a great hotel!! The rooms are very clean and the staff is super friendly and helpful!! Everyone is very nice and welcoming. The hostel is in the perfect spot too!! Right on the beach, close to town (walkable and/or bike-able), and also right next to one of the best bars "Tasty Waves" (go on Tuesday).. We loved this place and will stay again if we are in Puerto Viejo again. We also look forward to staying in one of their different locations throughout the world!

The pool was very refreshing, the staff are excellent, very helpful people and a pleasure to talk to. Bathrooms were well kept and the room was amazing. Highlight of the stay was easily Jimmy the bar master and his choliguaro shots!! When you stay be sure to have a shot for me!

I stayed as part of my work and travel trip. For me it was a priority to have a good working environment as the one here is the best I've seen in Costa Rica. I stayed in a private room that was really tiny and overpriced. Yet, I like the location from the sea, coworking, service and common areas.

I had reserved a private room with a private bathroom, when I arrived at the Hostel, they seemed to have changed their system, and my reservation was not transferred over and they where overbooked. To make up for the mistake, they allowed me to stay in a new area they where building free of cost, I agreed as it is the New Years Weekend and it was impossible to find another hotel at this time. The room was a Tikki where bugs fell from the roof the entire night, we got bitten all over our bodies and had to kill the bugs all the time. During the day a stranger came into our Tikki, and we had to yell at him to leave (there are no doors). The bathroom where not habilitated and we had to use the main ones that were 100 meters from our room. The toilets were clogged the entire weekend we were there, with no hygiene, the showers where always dirty and the bathroom where beyond usable. The bar at the hostel plays loud music every night until 2 am, making it very hard to sleep. This was not a relaxing New Years Eve Weekend, we where stressed out the whole time between the bugs, lack of hygiene and excessive noise from the bar. I will no longer be staying at a Selina Hostel.
