Rooms are lovely, extremely clean and exactly as pictures show. There is a reception but they are only there when you need them not 24/7. Good location.

This hotel was a welcome change from our tiny accommodations in Tokyo. Highly recommended.

Love this place so much! Room is huge and facing Kamo river. The view is enchanting in the morning and sunset. Staffs are all nice and speaks good english (big plus in Japan). Quiet room despite being in front of the road because it has double sliding door. Huge bathroom with huge tub complete with micro bubble. I would never stay anywhere else in Kyoto, and this is our third time in Kyoto.

The hotel’s location (next to shopping, tons of restaurants, metro, next to Gion district and Pontocho districts) combined with clean room, room features and comfort makes this hotel a superb selection

It's a hidden gem in Kyoto. The room is actually nicer than it shows in the pictures on website. I love the shower I'm the bathroom. The water pressure is strong .

We would recommend without hesitation this wonderful hotel: the rooms were large, very nicely decorated and amazingly well equipped including crockery, glasses, tea / coffee, robes & slippers and a lovely bathroom. It was also extremely quiet despite being really well located. We stayed for 2 weeks and feel very fortunate - thanks to the owners and staff!

Great location near all the action.
The design of the room is great, with little touches not found elsewhere.

Our stay at Hotel Alza felt like a luxurious trip back in time to traditional Kyoto but with little modern touches. The room itself was beautifully designed and the amount of amenities given was astounding! The only negative I could say was a slight odor coming from the shower, which the staff informed us was from the recent rainy season. They also attempted to clean it immediately, which did help a lot.

Excellent service and our room had a lovely view of the river. Good location in the Gion area for access to sights and activities. Would recommend.

Incredible room and amenities. Bed was super confortable. Location is perfect to visit.
Only point was we were too low floor to see river (we booked « river view room »), and only have view on the road.

This property is close to Sanjo Station where it was easy to connect with public transportation or find a taxi. Easy walk to Nishiki Market, Pontocho Alley, Yasaka Shrine, Maruyama Park, Tsujiri Tea House (delicious refreshments with Uji matcha, stocked up with creamy latte mixes for home) and so much more.
Rooms are quiet. Beds are nice. Loved the shower and tub wetrooms. Micro bubbles were cool. Brought our mineral salts to have our nightly onsen after a long day of walking.
We had an emergency and had to rebook at the last minute, so they did not have one room left for the duration of our stay. We had to book multiple different kinds of rooms and change twice during the week. The staff moved our suitcases for us to the next room and we just picked up our new room key when we returned from touring.
They were able to receive and ship our bags to the next hotel. They helped us make restaurant reservations and we had a nice Shabu Shabu style meal in a private room at the restaurant across the way. It made travel to Gion easy.
Highly recommend.

This hotel was in a good location in/near Gion- very quiet area but just a few blocks from the more crowded areas. The room was very large and had nice amenities including an excellent bathroom and modern shower/bath/steam room.
Note there is no laundry area at this hotel but there is a coin laundry nearby and the front desk will point you there and provide some detergent pods, which was much appreciated.
Also, while it was noted that a breakfast supplement was available, you have to order it by noon the prior day- the hotel is relatively small and they don’t have their own restaurant, so they have to order it from elsewhere. We never ended up doing this. However, in Kyoto few places open early for breakfast. We found a couple and on other days we picked up some pastries the day before to have something to start the day with. In the room they had a water kettle and tea, and what at first looked like instant coffee packets, but turned out to only be coffee creamer. They may just not be familiar with the difference. We found some instant coffee at 7-11.
As an English speaker with little Japanese language fluency, I didn’t feel like I was able to leverage much assistance from the staff for local recommendations or help with reservations, just the bare minimum, but they were eager to help on things we could easily communicate about.

The hotel’s location is the best. It’s walkable to most of tourist sites. The room’s is good size for the US standard. The hotel is very close to the subway station, bus stops, Starbucks and restaurants. We highly recommended this hotel.

Arguable the nicest hotel I've stayed at in my life. Not enough I can say about this hotel. So close to everything. Insanely well appointed. Do not second guess this hidden gem.

Very nice hotel, small, but with very large rooms and excellent spacious bathroom complete with soaking tub! I liked the location, quiet streets with an old Japan feel. Shopping and dining just a 10 minute walk along the river. I definitely recommend this property and will surely return next time in Kyoto..
