It was quiet like one should be on vacation after working throughout a pandemic in the healthcare field! I loved every bit of it. The only thing would be they do tend to be quite pricey considering I grew up in kenya and so when visiting from the states I always look into getting ‘local’ deals since I speak Swahili

The Majlis left me feeling enchanted! The attention to the smallest of details is what made my stay. The resort is spectacularly designed and offers breathtaking views of Shela - perhaps the best place in Lamu to bask in the sunset and enjoy a walk on a pristine beach. The rooms are very spacious and tastefully decorated. Everywhere you turn, you'll be awestruck by the Swahili-style architecture and furniture as well as lush gardens. The beach bar was my favorite place to hang out - the bonfire and picture-perfect views added all the more to the magic of this place. The staff were incredibly professional, helpful, and welcoming, I was overwhelmed by the hospitality. Patrick, Sebastien, and the Guest Relations team made sure my stay was comfortable from the moment I arrived and went out of their way to help when I had issue with my flight. If you are looking for a unique stay in Lamu, this is it!

The Majlis is a beautiful escape from the busyness of life. The local staff are friendly and truly go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable, with Patrick’s great attention to detail for the rooms with his friendly smile, Donald’s service at meals, and Alphonse’s cheery demeanour for boat rides to/from locations.
However, the facilities (pool & beach beds) are run down / in dire need of replacement, the mattresses are very hard, and the food, while tasty, could use significant improvement to capture the fresh ingredients. What was clearly once a gem is now in need of attention - with minor upgrades needed to bring the hotel back to the splendour it once was.

The Majlis Hotel is a fabulous get away on the Kenya Coast. Not only is it beautiful and comfortable, but it is located on the MUCH less developed Manda Island, just across a channel from better known Lamu Island. This way, you can enjoy the beauty of nature and visit the Lamu World Heritage site at your convenience.

Property was amazing, the reception service was also excellent, however the hotel was seriously lacking in quality of food for ALL meals. Peponi is a way better option for top quality food.

Very beautiful hotel, little paradise with pools of charm, incredible bar, sea view rooms breathtaking! Hôtel décoration, statues, furnitures are so well thought every thing there is very beautiful.
Staff and management team are very dynamic, welcoming, supportive and very helpful. They will help you organise unforgettable surprise for your love one.
There is a lot of activities to be done, visits of islands, sand bicycle, kayaking, boat excursions etc... the water center is very well equipped!
Food is good also, but for a 5 star hôtel we expect a little bit more (especially on desserts....)
The staff of the spa is very welcoming and pro active, you can do massages, mani pedi and even gel polish (even if for the last one an additional training will help them to excel it).
Except this 2 little picky details overall experience is VERY VERY VERY EXCELLENT!!!!!!

It is unlike any hotel I have ever visited. For example there is no reception "desk" and the usual entrance to one's room. The hotel appears to be run and managed by young adults and their management is exceptional at every level. Comfort, quiet, unbeatable surroundings, the best hotel food ever and a total lack of the usual, noisy music and the expected evening "entertainment" made it a holiday to be remembered and cherished.
