Nice guest house in an old Japanese house with a kotatsu in colder months. The staff was helpful and friendly. It's my second stay. I enjoyed it a lot.
The bed is a futon so it's a bit hard when you try to sleep on the side. On the back it's fine.

Cute, little, authentic place, which feels like having a sleepover at your relative's house. The staff is nice, the place clean and the location good. There are so many lovely details and it's a good place to relax, as well as to use as a base for biking trips or a day trip to Hiroshima.
Place and number of toilettes is a little bit inconvinient, but not really bad

Very traditional and characterful feel to the place, with everything needed. Very central. Good secure bike storage

Felt a very special place to stay. Steeped in history, beautiful wooden interiors and a great atmosphere. We felt really lucky to have had a chance to stay there.
Breakfast was good amd our whole stay was so inexpensive.
Nothing.

It was amazing, I’ve never stayed in such a unique and loved space, it has soul and history which made me feel calm and part of a community. I want to go back.

The manager upgraded us to a private room which was more spacious than a dorm with excellent air conditioning. The walls are thin as it's a typical Japanese building but you do not hear anything through the walls.
The corridor is very thin so hard to manover backpacks/bikes.

Lovely stay in Onomichi! Good location in the shopping streets themselves, lovely downstairs communal area and an excellent kitchen. The shared room was clean and had a sink for convenience, and the upper beds were easy to get to.
From the women's dorm, all the available bathrooms are a little difficult to access. The slats around the beds meant there was no way of counteracting the light in the room which makes it difficult to sleep before lights out at midnight.

The place is quiet strange and very nice in the same time. The place is kind of block in the past, lot of Mangas in the room gave the place a atmosphere of an old child bedroom.
The staff is very kind.
The place in a narrow street is very charming.
Onomichi is a charming city.

Very peaceful, comfortable, clean. Good location in the heart of town. Nice little common area.
There wasn't much of a "vibe," but I think it's just a chill sleepy town.

it is a charming place. you feel comfy right away. the dorm beds are of solid wood. no waking up, if someone turns or gets in and out.
only 2 toilets and one is in the shared dorm.

Staff is super nice, the guesthouse is this little quaint place, with a big common space, lots of little corners, a Japanese garden and feels like it stayed in the Japan 1950s. Also very good location!

It's a beautiful house! It's large and spacious -- we were the only two guests in 9-bedroom. And it was cheap. Good location, 1 km from train station. Nice stars view.
My friend didn't like he was cold in the dorm when he woke up from the bed. But it's normal in December.

Beautiful place in the middle of the shopping district, close to an onsen. Great place to stay night during cycling trip.

I love the concept of repurposing old properties and revitalizing a community.
I usually dismiss complaints about spaces being small, because this is Japan and we should adapt our expectations. But guests should know that this property is on a smaller scale than usual. Only one person can pass the hallways and stairs at a time. Any bag larger than a backpack will be tricky to get up the stairs. Bathrooms are a very long walk from the women’s dorm.

Loved the setting, the decor and the drawings. Unfortunately the next door cafe was closed when we went.
Very calm place, almost studious. Big room.
Steep and narrow stairs to the room so take it into account if you have big luggage !
No sink to brush teeth/wash face except the tiny one in the toilet.

great location, very charming atmosphere
not the most comfortable place, but considering the place you can’t ask too much

The place was beautiful, comfortable and cozy. The staff were very nice and helpful ! I totally recommend it as it was a traditional Japanese old house and it really is perfectly located
It was more funny than a problem for us but many corridors are very very narrow and doors are small so if you don’t feel comfortable with narrow spaces it can be a problem.

It's an old restored machiya located right in the middle of Onomichi shopping street. The ambiance is great decorated with taste, enhanced with antics and artworks. The room is very big (10 tatamis + veranda) which is rare in Japan. Very interesting place to stay if you like Japanese traditional buildings. The common area is neat and you can relax downstairs and play with traditional games like shogi. You can also cook and it's fully furnished. Very good if you want to save on eating outside when traveling with kids like us. It was very clean and futons were comfty.
The bath towels were not included in the stay also no towels in the toilets to wipe your hands.
It's an old traditional Japanese house and there is virtually no phonic isolation you can hear the conversation of the neighbor room. So if you are sensitive to noise it can be disturbing.
If you come by car, be aware that there is few coin parking in Onomichi downtown and that it's pretty expensive. We stayed two nights and parking fees add a significant burden to our travel budget.
Despite these small drawbacks I believe it's a good place to stay to discover the nostalgic ambiance of Japanese provincial town.
