The ups and deep downs of staying at Jacobs Pond at Monksilver.
The house was spotless, warm and homely. Spacious with everything you could need. The beds were very comfy. The views are stunning, with an abundance of wildlife.
The owner spent the final few days of our stay, demanding extra money for the fact my son slept there. I pointed out that we had booked 'per night', not 'per person'. Then we asked if we could remain in the house later Friday until my son finished work, initially he agreed, next day he was demanding money for us to stay 7 extra hours, commenting, 'make me an offer'. He never came round when my son was there, only when it was my daughter and I, we felt very intimidated. I enquired during our initial call before we arrived that my son and grandson would be coming to see us, and Eric said that was no problem, and all the beds were made up. He also had a habit of coming into the garden, coming up to the conservatory door and peer in, going so far as to use the lame excuse of wanting his 'spider plant's?' Needless to say, we rearranged leaving Friday, and couldn't wait to leave, our break spoiled. He continually harped on about the fact we had 4 dogs, and how he usually only allows 2. As I eventually pointed out to him, when he found out we were bringing 4, he had the option of declining the booking, but was obviously more tempted by the money, than the dogs? Sadly, after being completely bowled over by the house and area, we ended up feeling uncomfortable, upset and couldn't wait to leave. He even suggested that 'my son should put his hand in his pocket to help his Mother out', and pay for the use of the single bed(He was at work all day). We have holidays on the Isle of Wight every year for at least 10 years, staying in a different rented holiday home every year to enjoy the whole island, and have always received our deposit back, and have never come across an owner like this? The whole experience was extremely upsetting.
