The Achill end of the Greenway starts at Achill Sound where our holiday homes are located. In 2011 the Great Western Greenway was awarded the EDEN European Destination of Excellence Award for Sustainable Tourism. If you are travelling during September/October, sign up for the Battle of the lakes, the famous kitesurfing and music festival centred on Keel Lake. Achill is less than an hour’s drive (50km) from the vibrant town of Westport which has a wide selection of craft shops, traditional pubs and good restaurants. The well-known Croagh Patrick mountain is 8 km from Westport and poses a challenge to any walker though the views from the top are spectacular!
