Just ok for a solo traveler...

I loved the staff, the space in cupboards and fridge to keep food and pancakes in the morning. Also, I had a problem with the bed and they change me to another one next day.

I was a solo traveler, so the place is really far from anything (supermarket, beaches, ...), public transport is very poor there and if you don't have a car it's difficult to go anywhere. I was trusting to go places with the free excursions they had but either they were full or cancelled, so I couldn't do any with them. Luckily I made a friend with a car! Also the first bed was super noisy and I couldn't move in the whole night so as not to wake people up. On a good note, I notified them and change me to another bed, and although it wasn't very comfortable still, at least it didn't make much noise.

Would recommend!

The breakfast pancakes were good, but the daily tours where the icing on the cake (special thanks to Will and Bruno) .

The location wasn't the best. Not much to do there unless you have a car.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!

Absolutely nothing

The private room is awful ! I feel totally scammed having to pay almost 200 USD per night for this tiny dirty room with no private bathroom. Totally overpriced for the quality of the room and service ! The room was located in the first floor close to a terrace/balcony where you have no privacy as many people from the hostels stay there to talk ! The wall is so thin that you cannot sleep at all, you can hear all the people around and even worse the noise from the street (a mix of homeless yelling and noisy car). Also rooms have digit code that generates sound when opening so you can hear people waking up during night to get to the toilets and come back to their room. The shared bathrooms are quite disgusting as the hostel is very packed with people sharing rooms so it’s almost always busy ! Also it says on booking that the hostel has a parking but there are only a few spaces and no availability when we arrive with our car so we have to park in the street that doesn’t feel very safe! Finally I’d say the staff is not very nice (maybe except the first girl when we arrived) and sometime a little bit rude and not professional! STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOSTELS ! You can find much better or even go to camping ! The small town is also quite depressing as there is absolutely nothing to do so think twice before booking !! I would have asked for a refund actually!

It was good!

It was a good place for one night. I had a private room for 2 persons. It was good!

It was small and just missing a few things like a little bench to put your stuff on. A place for your towels and clothes. In the shower more space for your stuff to put down like a bench.

Buena estadía

El hostel está muy bien en gral. Los chicos del staff estupendos. Los choferes de la van muy buenos conductores. El hostel está limpio. Ofrecen paseos free. El salón de estar tiene muchos entretenimientos y es un buen punto de encuentro. Los miércoles hay karaoke y canilla libre de margarita.

El costo de la diaria es muy elevado. En la relación costo/beneficio …. Si bien tiene buenos servicios el precio es muy alto.

Hope to be back soon

Loved everything, the pancakes in the morning, the staff and the place, but my favourite was the free activities, made my trip 100% better because I was saving money and I made amazing friends that didn’t expect to find in my trip, made my activities so much fun.

Fun hostel for socialising

Really nice and well equipped kitchen as well as a great common area (inside and backyard). There are quite a few individual bathrooms so waiting times are limited. There is also a female only bathroom. The hostel offers great activities that are included in the price and make it really fun to explore the island. They also offer fun evening activities like beer pong or barbecues. If you‘re looking for a very quite hostel this one probably isn‘t for you.

Although the trips are fun and free there are limited spots. The van can only take up to 14 people and popular activities like the Road to Hanā are very difficult to get on. Often other people staying at Howzit will have a car and share a ride. But keep in mind that in the price you pay for the hostel an activity is not guaranteed.

Freundliches Hostel mit tollen Leuten und Wohlfühlatmosphäre!

Wir hatten eine wirklich tolle Zeit im Hostel. Die Mitarbeiter*innen waren super nett und hilfsbereit. Auch die gemeinsamen Aktivitäten wie das Frühstück oder der BBQ-Abend waren super um neue Leute kennenzulernen. Die Betten waren bequem und mit den Bädern hat alles super geklappt. Wir hatten nie Probleme. Wir würden immer wiederkommen!

Great and very social hostel in Wailuku

This is one of the best hostels I have been recently! Great atmosphere created by the volunteers, many organized trips and events, guests can easily socialize. The hostel is super clean, the bathrooms are wide and modern, the kitchen has everything you will need to cook your own meals. There is pool, foosball, many other games, location is good, there is a Safeway and a Foodland within walking distance. Met great people and had a very good time at the Howzit, can't wait to get back to Maui and visit again!

There are no drawers, or anywhere to put your stuff. They do not have lockers, and it is fine, as it is a very safe hostel, but the dorm was small and it was hard to keep your stuff organized. But this was a minor problem, I loved my stay at the Howzit.

Really nice facility and super nice welcoming staff great breakfast

The lobby and facilities were pretty magical, the people were super friendly welcoming and magical, the events board was full of fun things to do. They had a group chat to communicate with other people staying at the hostel and also for the events. The breakfast was very on time and filling. Great nighttime atmosphere in the lobby. Nice chill balcony to degress or have time to yourself and enjoy the air.

Nightlife in the are a can be mellow but thats ok nothing really to complain about

Great place for solo travellers

Friendly staff, clean, lots of activities/tour organised which is very convenient if you don’t have your own car.

No locker in the bedroom, nothing to put our phone/book/charger if you’re in the top bed (a small shelf would be convenient)

OK for a short stay

The comunal area was really cool, the toilets were quite new and kept clean. Stayed in a private room that was clean as well and bed was ok.

Room could be improved, power plugs weren't easily acessible, USB plugs and some hooks to put the towels would've been great. Fire alarm woke us up both nights. The area is not great for parking as there are only very few on site available.

Howzit Hostels Wailuku Strong

Erik, I am so grateful to your entire support accompanied with the warm smile throughout my stay at the hostel. I will come back again and recommend 'Howzit' at Kahului Mauii to my friends and family. Unforgettable experience and atmosphere full of joy and harmony. Nice Hostel when you have a car

There were Not many sittingplaces, because the Lobby was in Renovation, rooms in the near the kitchen are Noisy. No lockers. Onlinecheckin was annoying. Some persons from the staff were very gentle, some okay.

Well equiped hostel with nice refurbished common room.

The hostel is well kept, with clean shared bathrooms, your sheets or towels are changed on demand. There is a well-equipped kitchen, sitting and dining area on the second floor and a large common room on the first floor. It is possible to enjoy your dinner in the yard behind the hostel under a huge tree. The hostel offers some activities - paid or free of charge with the expectation of some tips. Nearby is a petrol station Texaco where is possible to buy some drinks and snacks. Some restaurants (not posh and expensive) are also in the neighborhood.

Would be nice to adjust the air conditioning in a common room on the 1st floor to the temperature outside. It is like to enter the fridge.

Good place for young people. Clean and safe, with a fun atmosphere, Older people will feel a bit out of place.

It is very clean, therefore comfortable. Good air-conditioning.

Fun

I loved that the hostel offers free excursions and events every day. I went to a cool drum circle and on a great hike to a waterfall. Free breakfast is a nice touch and a whatsap group with all the guests makes it super easy to make friends and meet up to travel around with others which was great as a solo traveller.

The staff were very, very friendly. The price (relative to the rest of Maui) was reasonable. The rooms had A/C, which made sleep possible. There was limited parking for a fee, which was great because street parking was difficult to find.

I mean, it's a hostel so communal living may not be ideal for all. Mostly 20-somethings.

Fun place to stay for a few days

Facilities were nice, very causal and laid back vibes. Met some great people.

Construction currently being done, so had to walk under scaffolding to get to and from the rooms.

Everything was perfect! It is the best hostel I’ve ever been to. The staff was amazing, everything was super clean and their entertainment at night was always so fun!

Good for a night though would opt for a 4-person or less room in this hostel.

I stayed here twice on my trip to Maui. The first time, I stayed in a room of four girls, me being one of them. We were right next to the bathroom and the bathroom was clean. It was all in all very pleasant. The second visit I stayed in an 8-person mixed dorm. I have never done that before and know that with that comes potentially new challenges you don’t face with less people. Overall, there were no issues with the people and shockingly no one snored.

The only complaint I have is that some of the bathrooms get dirty, the later into the night it is. And the downstairs bathroom where the eight person dorm is not as maintained or monitored closely. It also doesn’t have a sink that is designed in such a way where you can put your things on the counter. Disregard me to go upstairs and use the other bathroom.

My go to place if its just me

The place was really clean and showers were clean. I stayed for a night. Check-in was fast and getting a bed was also fast and painless. The ambassadors were cool and easy going. I didn't have a chance to try out the tours or the breakfast but I'll definitely go back just so I can check these things out the next time. The laundry room wasn't super full so I was able to wash my clothes. Access to the building and the room is easy. You just get your own code and you're in. Overall my first experience in a hostel and I wasn't expecting much but I liked it and will go back.
