Rustic 1800's cottage set on a sheep and beef farm
About this farm stay rental
This rustic little 1800's cottage is set on an 1800 acre sheep and beef station in the Hinakura Valley, 25 minutes drive from Martinborough. With no cell phone reception and limited wifi, it is the perfect place to enjoy quality time with each other. Linen and towels are provided so all you need to bring is your food. There is an unmarked lawn tennis court, great sandpit for the kids and outdoor games. Guests are welcome to enjoy a walk on the farm, where there are animals to feed especially around springtime. The river is nice and close complete with a lovely swimming hole and the rugged coast line is only a 20 min drive down the road. There are also horse treks 40 mins away. If the weather isn't great there are board games available and sky tv to watch. There is also seasonal fruit available, and our water is sourced from a natural spring. We also offer guided hunts for both wild pigs and deer. Please enquire for more details. We also have Aotea Homestead which sleeps 11. Please see our other listing.

This little place is perfect for a get away in nature. The fire place warms the house so well, and the company of sheep brings joy.
Amazing wild beach about 30min away.

Was so great to have extra accommodation for our fairly large family group occupying the guest wing of the main house. Quiet and comfortable with a nice outlook over the farm paddocks :)

We enjoyed the peace and quiet...gathered pine cones for the superb fire place for the evening...and ambled through the paddocks/along the riverside during the day. Good place to have a quiet read and be away from the internet.

Rustic, minimalist, simple. It's what we were looking for, and it's what it was. Aside from not having a teapot for which my wife will never forgive, it was great. Our daughter had a field day in the sand pit and play house.

This property is just as pictured. We went in September to see the lambs and got full lamb experience - we even got to feed the pet lambs. The cottage is simple, clean and comfortable. Had the fire going in the evening and it was cozy. The front veranda is perfect for rural viewing and relaxing. One further location tip is to drive past the homestead and the cottage is just past the gate at the end of the drive.

This is a getaway hideout.. come for peace and quiet and take a drive down to the Pahaoa River mouth, east coast at its wild best. Cheeky little fantail to boot.

Good place, basic and perfectly adequate. Difficult to find if you don't get instructions - we didn't, though apparently this was unusual

Rural Idyll
The Bees, the stars, the sheep, the river, the wild beach, the quiet, the bird song. The comfy bed, the relaxed rustic that reminded me of the real Bach of my childhood. What a great, totally relaxing weekend. I'm already looking forward to repeat visits. Thank you to our hosts.

I love staying in this simple cottage.
I love staying in this simple cottage. It's situated in the heart of beautiful countryside - a lovely, scenic drive from Martinborough. Very hospitable owners who are close by if you need them. Loved my walks across the farm and visiting Martinborough each day for an outing. No coverage - fantastic! I read two and a half books instead and slept heaps. Aotea Cottage is good value and I intend to visit again soon.

Great little rustic bach.
Great little rustic bach. We loved being away from it all, with no reception or internet. Loved the slightly wonky floors, and the feeling of living in a little slice of history. Comfy beds and cosy lounge area. A few little changes would be nice - some more relaxed outdoor seating for out the front, a lamp in the second bedroom. We had a great weekend away. Thanks very much!

The cottage is an iconic farm dwelling.
The cottage is an iconic farm dwelling. The floors are not particularly even and the decor is not like a flash hotel, but it was what we were looking for. The beds are comfortable, and the evenings under the veranda with the sunset and view across the fields were beautiful. We enjoyed a mountain bike ride across the farm and to the river swimming hole. Some minor improvements could be: fold-out chairs for the veranda, a smaller sharp knife for the kitchen, and a better frying pan.

We had a lovely time.
We had a lovely time. Our hosts were very friendly, lots of space to go for walks and the kids loved feeding the greedy cow apples and fetching freshly laid eggs. The cottage is neat and well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
