A great place, worth the price

This is not your typical ryokan but a modern one where nobody will wake you up at 7am for breakfast. Here, you can (almost) sleep as you please. 9 bungalows for 9 rooms. Each room has its own private onsen, one indoor and the other outdoor, in addition to the bigger "public" one. Staff is great. Dinner is superb, and so is breakfast. It's far, a bit remote but you must go for a peaceful and very charming moment.

Great place with amazing meals

We really enjoyed our stay. We booked a room with its own outside onsen tub, which was excellent. As we had our own private onsen, we did not use the common bathing facilities. As there are no restaurants anywhere near the hotel, we ate both breakfast and dinner at the hotel each day. They prepared different meals for us each time, and the meal presentation and taste were outstanding. The staff were also excellent, and attended to our every request. Several staff members were able to speak English as we can't speak any Japanese. The location is a bit out of town along a winding forest road. It would be impossible to get to the hotel without a car and google maps. With the meals our stay was somewhat expensive but we would definitely stay again when we are in the area.

I will stay there again

Food was great. Service was attentive and excellent. Special mention must be made of Agung san who served us over several meals and who provided great service and helpful advice on how to get to the places we wanted to visit. Room was very spacious and clean. Bed was extremely comfortable and the in-room bath was spacious and very relaxing. The entire place was a pretty sight to behold especially in the evenings. The dining area was warm and very inviting. It was cold when we were there and we woke up to see snow flurries one morning.

位置比較偏僻一點點，附近沒有商店，晚上就不會開車外出了，但不影響住宿的優點

ペットフード持参となっていましたが、小型犬用くらいの一食分、部屋にご準備頂いていたり、ペット用のおやつも販売があり細やかな心配りを感じました。スタッフの方々も皆さん良くしていただき、子連れでも気兼ねなく過ごす事ができました。

Cottage with not just beds but there’s also a TV area, sitting area and indoor onsen. Big single beds with USB cable plugs set right next to each bed. Very considerate design everywhere inside the cottage. Staff also speak English which is great. It’s located deep inside the woods but just follow Google map’s direction and we found it with no issues. Just have to make sure you try to get there before sunset, really really dark on the road otherwise. They have outdoor and indoor public baths (onsen) but we didn’t manage to use it. The private indoor one inside the room was good enough for us. Even though we only stayed for 1 night, really enjoyed the cottage. The dinner and breakfast were also delicious.

Truly Recommended!

Great staff and service! Nice environment and facilities! My family really enjoy the service and bath at here~ I had accidentally left my ring there and they contact me, help me to keep for it and send it to me! Really appreciate for the help as the ring is really important to me! Will surely come again when I'm back to here！

愛犬と宿泊できて最高。

部屋に温泉があり、いつでも入浴できて、源泉掛け流しだったのが良かった。

Relaxation beside a volcano

The hotel is located in a secluded location which is very quiet and relaxing. There are lots of things to do and see in the Mt Aso locality. It was lovely having our own private outdoor bath to relax in after a busy day sightseeing. All the staff are lovely.

Only a Japanese breakfast is offered, which may not suit Western visitors.

Breakfast was exceptional, and the staff nice. Room was very big, with nice onsen (one indoor tub and one outdoor on the terrace). Location is nice and quiet, with forest surrounding. Even if on a remote location, it was easy to find using navigation, and the road signs marking the property.

The area in the hills was very beautiful and quiet. We booked 2 rooms which were individual cabins. We loved the indoor private onsen which was perfect for our family of 5. They provided complimentary snacks which was a nice touch. The traditional breakfast we ordered beforehand was waiting for us at our specified time. It was such a lovely experience and very tasty. There was a lady at breakfast who also walked around making sure everyone had what they needed. One of the employees, Agung, was also very attentive and kind. We truly enjoyed our stay here!

Friendly traditional style Ryokan with private onsen

Beautiful set of tradition style Ryokan cottages with both private and public baths. The staff were very welcoming and left us a handwritten note and some Japanese snacks in our rooms for us. The rooms were very tidy and the beds were very comfy. Had everything you need and they were very large with a nice tatami room to relax in.. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Nothing to complain about other than the location, which was a bit remote but not a problem at all with a rental car. Located in the mountains/countryside, which was peaceful.

nice, quiet and secluded, with sprawling ground.

the cabin assigned to us is small. the bed is not very comfortable. there is no towel rack to hang towels at the wash basin. no cabinet to hang our clothes.

A beautiful setting for relaxation and the full Ryokan experience

A beautiful and tranquil setting. The room and the onsens were lovely and well presented. The staff were so nice and friendly and the food was great! Would highly recommend and will definitely return.

Huge room, Private outdoor bath, hearty Japanese meals, very friendly staff and very short drive to kurokawa onsen area.

Actual name of this hotel is hanagocoro which is different from booking.com so we could not locate it in GPS initially.
