What a beautiful location surrounded by an abundance of nature and wildlife. The wild horses were the big hit however the migrating birds were also amazing. We stayed for four months, the house felt like home, warm and cozy and very comfortable. Everything you could need was just a short ride in either direction from grocery stores to restaurants, museums etc. Kate and Gary were the consummate hosts and very responsive to our occasional needs and great tour guides to boot. We will definitely consider returning in the future.

Spent a long weekend at this property when visiting Hunting Island Beach (my all time favorite beach). House was immaculate and utterly beautiful. Very well stocked to the point I was even surprised to be honest. Kate, the owner kept in touch via email up to my stay with minor details wrong with the property that she was working to fix. Very minor to the point that if she wouldn't of told me, I wouldn't have noticed. I lived in the area for 3 years so I was aware of the local setup and was prepared to have to drive into town for food or whatever I or the kiddos may have wanted or needed. So be advised of that, you will be a few miles from a grocery store or restaurants if that is something you worry about. This property has a breathtaking view and is absolutely fantastic. Even my 7 year old enjoyed sitting on the porch admiring the view. Only complaint I have is that I had to leave 🥺 my family and I will definately stay here again next summer for our return to Hunting Island Beach if it's available. To anyone reading this review, just book it, you will have zero regrets unless you enjoy massive crowds and hate the sounds and beauty of nature.

Wonderful all around. The house is spacious and slept the 8 of us easily. The A/C worked great, even meeting my wife's stringent standards. It is located at the end of a secluded drive, perched on the edge of coastal marshland. <10 min to the beautiful Hunting Island beach, 15 min to Walmart and grocery stores. The owners were wonderfully nice, welcoming, and quickly communicated on everything, even minor hassles.

I am a Carolina boy, raised in SC and live In Eastern NC. I have stayed all along the Carolina Coast. I have never had a cooler experience and to have my children to share it with, was pretty amazing. When you first drive up to the house and fiddler crabs are scurrying across the road then you know you are about to get the full show.
I felt as if I had dropped into a Pat Conroy novel. The marsh was amazing and at low tide the snap and cracking sounds in the Spartina grass makes you feel as if your in a pan of frying bacon. Lying on our backs on the dock watching shooting stars at night, because there is little light pollution was breathtaking. The Wild Marsh Tacky horses visited us every low tide. I have hung out with wild horses at OBX and Shack Banks, but these guys were really at peace with us being near them. We did not touch or feed them. We caught shrimp and pogies with the cast net off the dock and was lucky enough to bring in a skate on the rod and reel. (make sure you bring a stiff surf rod with a 4oz weight to reach the deep holes at high tide). We also saw bald eagles, osprey and every variety of coastal birds.
The beds were comfortable, the showers were great and they have every utensil, pots and pans than you would ever need. The house is more spacious than it looks in the pics. We were really only in the house to sleep and shower. We spent most of our time either on the back porch, the dock or on Hunting Island.
The north side of Hunting Island Beach is pretty amazing and desolate at low tide. The beach from water to dunes can be up to 200 yards wide there. You can actually ride your bike on the hard packed sand.
The owners were great and the check in and out process was very simple. The bugs were no issue while we were there (end of July) because there was a constant onshore breeze, however, if there is no breeze blowing that can expect the bugs to be in full force.

We have mixed reviews for our experience at this property. The views were fantastic/peaceful but the overall cleanliness/upkeep of the house and communication with the owner was a bit disappointing. We've stayed at over 20 VRBO properties over the years and this review has been our most challenging. To summarize:
Pros
- wonderful views & peaceful setting
- good initial communication with property owner prior to arrival
- property owner was kind enough to offer military discount (much appreciated!)
- fresh flowers were a good touch
Cons
- hardwood floors and towels were extremely dirty (e.g. on the first day we spilled a glass of water in the kitchen and when we cleaned it up with a paper towel, the towel came back black/filthy)
- washing machine leaked suds/water when used (the rubber seal was brittle/did not prevent leakage, we had to clean up after using)
- several appliances were inoperable (e.g. exhaust fan in bathroom, ceiling fan in bedroom, side porch light, front door lock, vacuum cleaner)
- rear porch furniture seemed very old and uncomfortable (e.g. the 2 person loveseat cushions did not have much stuffing left, the wooden reclining chair could not recline due to set screw missing (we found on floor on the last day and fixed this)
- our biggest disappointment was when we mentioned these issues to the property owner, who asked for our feedback, she got defensive and disagreed with our suggestions regarding recommended improvements (e.g.). 1) when we tried to clean the house on the final day to clean up the dog hair, the vacuum cleaner did not work. The owner told us we should have found the broom and swept up if the vacuum was not working, 2) when we suggested getting more comfortable furniture on the back porch, the owner commented that she would not get better furniture pieces just for renters to trash them, 3) when we pointed out that the bathroom exhaust fan was not working, she conveyed that it was working before we arrived and we should try again, 4) when we told her that the front door latch was very difficult to lock, she said we should not be using the front door and but just use the side door instead)
We wish it could have been a more positive review but, unfortunately, our experience did not warrant such.

Couldn't ask for more!
From the first contact with the owners until pulling out of the drive the last time, we couldn't have asked for more. The home is located with a breathtaking view. The house is beautifully appointed with every amenity and extra you can think of. We spent a lot of time on the back deck, pier, and hammock enjoying the serenity of our surroundings. The wild tackys came to the pier at least once every day and once right up to the yard so we could truly interact with them. It was magical for everyone. While we felt we were in the middle of nowhere, we could be at the beach, our favorite restaurants, and area attractions within minutes making it the best of both worlds. We have traveled and stayed in rental homes all across the US and have never had an experience as good as this one. With all the little extras supplied, It was like house sitting for an old friend... A friend you really want to go out of town often and they ask you to stay again.

We had the most rejuvenating week staying in this serene and unique home. Owners, Gary and Kate, were incredibly accommodating and flexible with us as we navigated our stay with a hurricane approaching the coast. We truly appreciate it!
The setting on the private property overlooking the marsh and the wild tacky horses is simply the best. The house is beautiful, comfortable, and well-stocked with everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. Our family loved it!
We hope to stay here again!

The location of Seahorse was perfect for our family getaway. It provides relaxing views of the sunrise, the Marsh Tacky horses and the ebb and flow of the tides. The kitchen offers a wonderful space for cooks and the deck is an ideal spot for the family to gather, relax and enjoy the peace of the marsh. My sons enjoyed preparing fish and steaks on The Big Green Egg, too!

Was wonderful. Our youngest daughter loved looking at the Marsh horses from the deck.
Came down for our oldest daughter's wedding. Was nice to be able to relax in a beautiful house and enjoy the quiet.

Horses, sharks teeth, sandollars, and history converge for a perfect family beach vacation.
The owners, Kate and Gary, were very attentive and helpful both before and during our stay. They answered all of our questions in a timely manner and gave us great recommendations for things our family could do while staying at the Sea Horse house. An example of their attentiveness was upon arriving to the house, we could not get the Wi-Fi password to work. After informing Kate and Gary, they immediately helped us work through and solve the issue.
The house itself is set in an idelic location. Each morning the wild horses came to graze out on the salt flats in front of the house. We were able to enjoy a cup of coffee and breakfast outside on the covered deck watching the sunrise cast a beautiful light on the marsh, listening to the birds chirp, and enjoying the breeze as it made the grasses dance.
The interior of the house was clean and well maintained. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipt and easy to navigate. It had everything you would need for a weeks vacation.
Saint Helena island was the perfect location. Situated between Hunter's Island State Park's amazing beachs and lighthouse, and Beaufort's quaint shops and restaurants, we were never wanting for things to do.
Our family enjoyed our week so much we are already planning to return again next year.
