Eagle’s Nest - Lake Home with Hot Tub and Fire Pit
About this house rental
Nestled in Inver Grove Heights, this charming house for R 16,613 per night is a great option for your next vacation. Summary: Your “cabin” in the city awaits you. A modern space with a sprawling floorplan offers the perfect getaway for families and friends to gather. Rest and relax here, and when you're ready to explore the Twin Cities, it is just minutes away. Take in lake views from the hot tub, the deck, living room and sun porch. You’ll feel like you’re up north yet you’ll be close to everything. The Space: This house is perfect for family gatherings, girls weekends, guys weekends, weddings, company retreats and more. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs and 3 bedrooms downstairs, and each level has its own bathroom, living room, TV, and fireplace. Off the main living room is an expansive deck that has a spectacular view of Lake Schmidt. The downstairs living room opens to an equally huge sun porch with just as good of views, heated by a gas fireplace. There is also a wet bar with a sink and full fridge in the room leading to the hot tub patio. I have everything you need here: clean linens/towels/washcloths, all kitchen utensils you need, and cooking and baking spices/supplies, etc. While swimming and fishing in the lake is not recommended, people have done it before if they're feeling adventurous or overly optimistic about fish. The water is shallow so the actively growing aquatic plants in the water usually reach the surface in August. There is direct access to the lake via about 15 steps that lead to the water's edge. There you will find a canoe, 2 kayaks, and the paddles. Life jackets are in the storage bin by the hot tub. Exploring the lake is so much fun! You’ll probably see turtles, small fish, one of the resident bald eagles, egrets, muskrats, and so much more. The lake is teeming with life. And if you come any time in the spring to late fall, you will find a beautiful lily pad field with the most amazing flowers just to the left of the property. There are 6 bedrooms all with queen-sized beds. And for groups that need to accommodate more...four more people can sleep on the two couches that convert into beds in the lower level living room. Four more can sleep on the 2 air mattresses provided. Sleeps 20 people in total. When making your reservation request, please be aware that the number of guests you list when booking is the maximum that will be allowed on the property. Once your reservation is confirmed, you will be asked to provide the names of all who will be at the house for a half hour or more (infants 12 months and younger will not be counted as guests). Please note that there are cameras that are only focused on the entrances to the house and NOT inside the house in any way. Inviting more people to the house that are not listed may result in immediate cancelation of the booking without refund. Guest Access: You will have access to the entire property. Other Things to Note: For your reservation, it includes 4 guests and each additional person over 4 people is $30/person/night. A guest is defined as anyone on the property for over a half hour and over the age of 1. Enjoy the 7-person hot tub year-round - it's kept at 102 degrees upon your arrival. Also available year-round is the enormous fire-pit patio and I do include unlimited kiln-dried oak firewood for you to build as many fires as you like. There is a propane grill on the deck which is always ready. There is seating for 12 on the deck. I offer early check-in or late check-out for $75/hour, but please schedule this in advance so we can plan accordingly. HOUSE RULES: (1) Quiet Hours: 10pm to 7AM which means no outdoor socializing. My neighbors are VERY IMPORTANT to me and I have a zero tolerance policy on this rule. All outdoor socializing, ESPECIALLY IN THE HOT TUB, must conclude by 10pm. No exceptions to this rule. (2) No smoking in the house (smoking on the deck is allowed) (3) Guest list provided before your stay must match your actual guests. Please understand an open guest list party may result in immediate cancellation of your reservation and any guests over the amount listed when booking will be charged at $30/guest/night. I request a $1,000 security deposit to ensure these 3 rules are followed. To pay the security deposit, I will make a Money Request through the website and, after your stay, the security deposit is refunded through the website within 24 hours assuming the 3 rules are followed. I do not enjoy being so strict and requiring this security deposit but past experiences have made these steps necessary. I greatly appreciate your understanding. Interaction with Guests: There is a keypad on the main door so just show up and you have the place to yourself. If you need something, I'm usually only 15 minutes away and can help with anything you need.

This was our group’s second stay at Inver Grove Heights and the experience both times was great. Clean, well-appointed home, with seamless check-in access and great amenities (including a hot tub, great in the winter). Would recommend.

Wonderful place. So fun to have kayaks and canoe lakeside. We took a few lovely paddles around Schmidt lake and saw snapping turtles and enjoyed the geese taking flight. Beds super comfy, nice linens and pillows. Tons of games available. Lots of places to commune or take quiet alone time. Loved the bbq and bonfire.
Would prefer to not hear the nearby freeway noise but we decided to pretend it was the ocean! The place is otherwise so peaceful. Would also love to have better serving platters and bowls in kitchen for a place that otherwise is so thoroughly well appointed.

6 of us have been traveling together for 10 years, mostly in the outstate Minnesota area, but when we saw this listing it looked perfect - on a lake, 6 bedrooms, fire pit, hot tub - who could ask for anything more. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The kitchen was the most well-appointed kitchen we have ever stayed at and the owner had anticipated just about any possible need we could encounter. We had a great time!

Stayed at this gem for a family wedding and we loved it! Kitchen was more than well stocked-it was the best stocked kitchen we’ve ever had. It is much appreciated when the cupboards have more than salt and pepper in them. There was coffee, pantry staples and a welcome basket.
We also really appreciated all the different spaces that we could hang out together. Several different couch areas, two dining areas, plus the outdoor fire pit.
Steve was responsive and super helpful.

Excellent lake property in the Twin Cities
Beautifully renovated super clean home on Lake Schmidt. Comfortable beds, nicer than the pictures, lots of natural light from sky lights. Our family really enjoyed the kayaks, paddle boards, canoe, fire pit and hot tub. Easy check in and check out. High recommend and would be happy to stay here again!

Great Family Wedding Location
The property was a beautiful setting for an outdoor family wedding. It was the perfect spot to have the entire family in one location to celebrate and there were plenty of things to keep our adult children entertained.

We had a great experience at this property ovrrall We were getting multiple generations of the family together to honor my daughter's university graduation. There was plenty of space for socializing as well as enough room to find quiet spaces. The kitchen was well supplied, there were plenty of towels and linens - the space had everything we needed for a successful weekend and was clean and welcoming.
I was a little put off by having to provide a full list of everyone staying, but that might be a common requirement these days and I am just out of touch (plus I understand the need to protect your property)
One caution - the space and the grounds are a bit challenging if you are with anyone who has reduced mobility. My 85 year old parents struggled with the terrain in the back and the amount of steps. Not a negative, but something to be aware of.
The whole group had a wonderful time and we would all recommend Steve's property - all of your guests will love trying the downstairs shower :)

My mother and I stayed here for a quick getaway without the hours-long drive "up north". It was perfect. Beautiful view over the lake, and awesome hot tub. It was too cold to make a fire or use the deck, but I can see they would be great in summer. The decor was beautiful and cohesive. Some of the other houses I looked at just felt like you would just be staying the night at someone's actual home, but this had the upscale feel of being a real destination, like a hotel room but nicer.
The kitchen is the best-stocked I have seen in VRBO locations, including a thoughtful S'mores bowl. Lots of utensils and dishes and appliances. Same with the hall closet - packed with games, puzzles, and toys.
There are windows and skylights everywhere, which just made everything seem full of light. You can't even see the highway because of the clever design of the windows (and we certainly didn't hear it). A real wood-burning fireplace upstairs (although the trek through the unshoveled yard to get the wood was a big challenge, and there was no kindling, so we used cardboard to get it going).
The beds were very comfortable, with easily accessible power strips on each nightstand, and a fan in the closet. I can see using the balcony during nicer weather! We watched the sun rise through the windows instead.
The TV was a Smart TV but required some fiddling to get the wifi working on it. The disc player was DVD, not Bluray, and did not have a remote. But when I raised this with the owner, he immediately offered to bring over BR player for us. We also ran into tech trouble trying to use the Sonos speakers.
I loved the design of the downstairs shower, with all the different shower heads (although I wish there was more water pressure to make use of them - the more heads you turn on, the weaker the stream becomes). But still a fun, unique shower experience. And the upstairs bathroom had heated floors!
We loved the hot tub. It was very simple to use, and very close to the door for that "run, run, get back inside!" phase afterward. It was 18 degrees out, and we were very comfortable in our little oasis. The water level is low enough that your head is not sticking up above the edges, so the wind is not hitting you.
It was just a very relaxing, peaceful time. It felt like we were in a snow globe that muffled the outside world, in more ways than one. Just what we were looking for.

The location was great and provided easy access to a wedding venue in Hastings as well as other attractions like the Mall of America. Our host was responsive with any questions we had and the home was very comfortable and provided just what we needed for a week long stay.

Rented this house for a weekend bachelorette party at the end of September.
Pros:
- Great views. Loved having the lake/wooded tree views while having the convenience of being located in the city.
- Enjoyed the indoor fireplace, outdoor patio/ fire pit, hot tub!
- Modern house – lot of fun things within the house. Harry Potter closet, heated bathroom floors, music speakers throughout the house, huge walk in showers, several bedrooms, multiple living rooms/patio area and what we called ‘The House Bible’ which was very clear instructions on how to start the TV/speakers/hot tub/etc.
- Steve was quick to respond/handle and was proactive with fixing all issues we had. Having a great host kept this experience from being a disaster.
Cons:
- Had some issues with the heat in house. I wasn’t able to get the gas heater started, and the house took a long time to warm up. The fireplace saved us! ( was the first fall weekend in Minnesota but Steve came over to help.)
- Cleanliness of the house. There was some dirt, grime, and dirty dishes. Steve refunded our cleaning fee, was very apologetic and assured us that he was taking the appropriate steps to ensure better experiences for groups in the future.
- Read the fine print: Guest fees are steep, but clearly communicated. The original rental fee only includes 4 people, but sleeps up to 16 so you’re dinged for each person per day over 4 people – no matter if it’s overnight guest/guest on property.
- Again – read the fine print: Strict quiet hours. Not allowed outside after 10:00 PM, which can be hard to swallow when you’re on vacation and looking to catch up with friends in the hot tub/by the fire.
Overall, we enjoyed the weekend. Even though the house wasn’t what we expected, Steve handled the issues well and we made the best of it and had a great bachelorette weekend for our bride!

The property was beautiful , it definitely has an "up north" feel in the middle of the metro. The owner was prompt with communication. I was a bit anxious about one of our guests inadvertently breaking a house rule as there are many, but thankfully that did not happen. It was unfortunate they required an additional $30 per person (including those who are not staying over, anyone stepping foot on the property) for greater than 4 people on top of what I considered a fairly steep rate.
