Located in Canterbury, this attractive house for R 2,158 per night is a fantastic option for your next vacation. Located just 10 minutes North of the Kaikoura township. Fantastic Bach with direct beach access. Two spacious bedrooms with a comfortable queen bed in each. Open living/kitchen areas which open out to beautiful front and back decks. Private fenced courtyard and own beach access. Can view the surf break from your lounge chair! All the mod cons, Netflix, unlimited Wifi, Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Wood Burner, outdoor BBQ and did I mention.... your own beach! Epic surf break @ Mangamaunu just a 5 minute walk up the beach or 2 minute drive in the car! Close to Meatworks, Graveyards and Irongate. Great surf casting right out front. Big opening Bi-folding doors and windows for those beautiful sunny days. Although only 5 years old, this is a very well established Bach & nestled in amongst lovely trees. Suitable for up to 4 Adults. Off-street parking for 2 and a boat or trailer! Responsible dog owners and their dogs are also very welcome. (Please ask re fencing) Please note: the railway line runs between the house and the beach and although there are not many trains, when they do come by, they are very close! This is a novelty for most people, but we understand it's not for everyone. This is not a serviced Bach so you need to supply your own linen, towels & tea towels and clean after your stay. All cleaning equipment is supplied, but you have to do a good job! The internet can be temperamental due it being on the old copper network.

Such a lovely property, easy access to the beach, the property has all the amenities that one may need and we loved the outside firepit. We thoroughly enjoyed our restful stay in the peaceful out of town spot and even the trains passing by was a novelty. The host was gracious and we are grateful for the opportunity to spend a few days. We would love to visit again even for longer.

We love the location and both the red & blue house are great places to stay. They have everything you need for an awesome weekend escape. Kids loved it and dad gets to sneak away for a surf!

What a treasure! From the location just next to a beautiful black sand beach to the creative and stylish mid-century decor, this place was a delight. Loved how they used old sports club memorabilia to decorate the inside (old wooden leader boards panelling the kitchen ceiling were so cool!) and rusty iron mongery artistically in the cleverly-designed garden. The owners clearly put a lot of thought and care into furnishing the house with comfy beds and sofas and a kitchen kitted out with everything you might need. Some might be worried about being next to the train track but I think only we only saw a train 2 times a day so not disruptive. There is a bit of road noise when big trucks pass but it should not keep you from staying in this gorgeous property! Did I mention the stars you can see there, the firepit in the garden and the cute nature table outside where beach finds are displayed? Unforgettable!

We had a great stay at the red house. The kids loved the beach being so close and we managed to catch some nice fish while there. It has everything you need and is nice and cosy even on rainy/windy days.

Cleverly curated bach, exactly as pictured - but better in reality as you can’t can the atmosphere. Feels very private despite being close to other properties. Loved waking up to the sound of the waves… and the freight train in the early hours was a real experience for us and our dog! The log burner was well used as we had quite a cold snap of weather during our stay. Great spot for day trips or staycations. Our portable baby gate meant we could leave the bifold open on the one fine day and enjoy the full beach experience. Thanks so much for your hospitality!

What a delightful property the Red House is! 15 mins from Kaikoura and just a few steps from a wild, and pretty much deserted beach. The property was the perfect blend of comfort and convenience with thoughtful and imaginative styling. It felt cosy and traditional while having modern facilities to make your stay as stress-free as possible. A real gem that we will definitely be coming back to!

We finished a family road trip with a stay at the Red House and to say we saved the best till last is an understatement! The house was spotlessly clean and decorated in such a fun and quirky way. The setting is fabulous, with waves just metres from your house. It was so peaceful, we will definitely be back.

Absolutely beautiful. Trains - hardly any but exciting. Beach is beautiful and spent a great deal of time indoors due to the rain but very comfortable. Kitchen is superb and the shower is awesome - that showerhead - is to die for! Great decor! Totally recommend.

We loved the location of the Bach right on the beach with the surf break, seal colony and kaikoura town all close by. The Bach was very clean and tidy, it had everything we needed, we loved the retro furniture and collectables. The train was a highlight! We’ll definitely be back.

We visited Kaikoura for my husbands birthday, to get away somewhere different and absolutely adored the red house! It had everything we could have needed for a long weekend and very beautiful with lovely finishing touches everywhere. The train was such a great novelty and exciting to see it go by, like other reviews mentioned, it wasn’t a bother at. We’re excitied to come back someday, maybe in the summer when we would be willing to take advantage of the close surf break down the beach.

Bad weather and surf threatened our weekend plans, but thankfully with the log burner going and views out to the story sea I couldn't really wish to be anywhere else! Really loved our stay, everything was practical and comfortable. Will definitely book again. Cheers Dave

We loved our couple of nights stay here. Very cozy and all you need. The bonus was letting the dogs come along too - they loved the beach walks, followed by lying in front of the fire.

Cozy spot with great artistic tastes and layout from owners,,,clean comfortable and idyllic wee spot, with the odd rumbling train and the sounds of the crashing waves to add atmosphere to this stunning backdrop...Highly recommended!

We love this place and our return visit and intention to come again reflects this. This place will appeal to anyone who likes being close to the sea with direct access to the beach, staying in an attractive, comfortable and very functional bach, and having a touch of drama with the odd train passing by. We loved our stay at the Red House. On arrival we spent the first 30 minutes oohing and aahing at all the clever up-cycled features that were peppered around the bach. It is super warm and cosy. The first night we lit the fire and roasted! We new better the second night and were perfectly comfortable. We loved it so much we have booked to stay again but have a small list of things that we need to bring next time but didn't this time ie, bath mat, fire starters, rubbish bags, dishwasher tablets. It was pretty special to be able to bring our two small dogs. They LOVED the beach walks and the fully fenced courtyard at the back was great for them. The bach is easy to clean on departure. It is always a little risky with self clean rentals. It was fine on arrival but we do feel we left it cleaner on departure. A great gem and we look forward to returning!

We went to the Red batch with friends, we took all our meals in the different outside areas and coffee on the beach - we waved at trains passing by (not so many so was not an issue at all) and enjoyed every minutes of our stay - highly recommended !!!!

Very impressed with the property; had all the immenities you could need for a holiday home. Very quiet and private location and easy access to the beach. Despite the train line being just outside there are only a couple a day and they are gone so fast you hardly notice them. Would definitely stay here again.
