The Golden Mile is the nickname for a beachfront area that is conspicuously devoid of hotels and resorts. Instead, this residential area has some stately waterfront villas, some privately occupied and others available for short-term rental. Public restrooms are available, and many like to explore the beach and the black rocks located near the sand. The park is open daily between 6 a.m. and 2 a.m., and parking is available for a fee.

Myrtle Beach State Park

A visit to Myrtle Beach State Park is a necessity while you’re in the area. Swimming conditions within the park are ideal, and many consider the beach to be one of the best. Located near the Myrtle Beach International Airport, you’ll find 350 campsites within the park, and cabins are also available for rent. A sizable fishing pier juts out into the water, and you can fish from it for a daily fee. Visitors also like to hike on the nature trails, picnic, ride horses ride and participate in nature programs hosted by park rangers. Pets are allowed in some areas of the park, but not on the beaches during the day between May 1st and Labor Day.
