Washington D.C. is a hot spot of Americana, political philosophy, and thanks to the National Treasure movies, even more conspiracy theorists than there already were. It’s a fun and vibrant city for all ages, no matter what you’re hoping to see. To start, there’s the classic National Mall – stuffed with museums, parks and memorials to America’s political history. If you’re looking for a Washington D.C. getaway for couples, however, you might need to check out some of the following D.C. date ideas.

  1. Sunset Cruise

Take a cruise together down the Potomac River as the sun goes down, and let the hospitality staff treat you to a lovely plated dinner. D.C.’s dinner and sunset cruises are inspired by the same in Paris, which means they have romance in mind. The two of you can take in the world-famous Washington Monument and John. F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as the boat glides by in the low light of dusk.

  2. Georgetown

Georgetown is a historical piece of Washington D.C, filled with stunning architecture from the 1800s and 1900s and paved with cobbled streets. Stop here for a tour of the houses or just browse through the design, art and clothing shops with your loved one. It’s the perfect atmosphere for contentment and love. Better yet, book a Bed & Breakfast nearby so you can hit up a Georgetown spot for breakfast the next day.

  3. Get Cozy Fireside

The District is packed with pretty bars that move the part outside, even when it’s getting chilly out there. Visit one of the outdoor seating sections with your date so the two of you can keep each other warm in front of the fire while you enjoy a few drinks.

  4. Union Market

Not only is Union Market an awesome spot to spend an hour or two shopping for food and crafts, but it has romance built into the walls – at least, one wall. Make sure to get a romantic photo in front of the market’s Heart Wall, painted by LA artist Mr. Brainwash, before leaving.

  5. Spend the Night in a Historic Hotel

Washington D.C. romantic getaways aren’t complete without booking a night at a beautiful, historic inn or hotel. Nothing is more romantic than spending the night snuggling in a one-of-a-kind building – and Washington D.C. has plenty of choose from. Start the next day off right with a lavish brunch and you’ve got yourselves an unforgettable vacation.

Washington D.C. may be famous for the White House, but it has so much more to offer than government buildings. With careful planning you can have a stunningly romantic time in the nation’s capital.
