Peaceful and restful vacation
This place was phenomenal. As soon as you walked in, it felt like you entered the jungle (filled with tropical plants, mango trees) via a sandy path that led you to the water. The esthetic of the entire place was green and serene. Sandy Bay is a bit more quiet than West End/ West Bay. At night time, you can walk to the dock and point out constellations clearly. The sunset is breathtaking. There are kayaks also provided by the hotel which you can use to explore the reefs nearby via snorkeling. Snorkeling gear can also be rented. The staff were so warm, bright and empathetic in their communication. Their food was a delicious as well. Our first day I had the grilled fish and it was superb. I was obsessed with the giant monstera plants in the lobby/ dining area and the many hummingbirds that stopped by for their morning nectar in the flowering plants. One logistical consideration---if you wish to explore other parts of the island during your stay, rent a car and explore as this is not walking distance from WE/WB. If you have a shorter stay, the staff have a shortlist of taxi drivers who work with the hotel to drive you around. We plan to return again as it fit perfectly with our idea of a vacation :)

Snorkel off the dock and enjoy the quiet!
This is a magical place. Beautiful flowers and beach. It is a quieter place to stay and not a very large resort so it felt very casual and friendly. We chatted with other guests but also had our space. We stayed in one of the bungalows, which we liked a lot. We didn't see in the garden cabins, but the bungalows are closer to the beach, and I'd choose that again. It's a little odd to not have a bathroom door, again something we knew. We were two good friends travelling so we would just tell each other when we needed alone time in the cottage to alleviate some embarrassment. Loved that there were free kayaks and paddle boards to use. There's a long pier and hammocks on the end that were never busy - great spot to read, hang out, look at the stars, peer into the water at night to see the "fire flies" in the water -- some kind of glowing plankton that was super cool. The best part is the location on the reef. We were there to snorkel and just couldn't have been easier to go right off the dock, over and over again. We also did a 4 hour snorkel excursion and that was awesome. Both for the beautiful spots but also the boat ride and care and attention we were given. Fresh fruit after being in the salt water is so wonderful! Talia and staff were helpful and professional and friendly and never intrusive. Rose is the chef and people should come from all around the island to eat dinner here - it was so very good. We visited West Bay and West End and were glad to not be staying at either. The beach has lots of people selling things and was crowded at West Bay. West End is a great spot to go to eat, but was glad to retreat to Puerta Azul.
There's no pool, but we knew that and didn't care. But if that matters to you...

Beautiful, authentic, and unique.
This place is a gem. Far enough from the tourist crowds to feel peaceful and yet close to everything. Talia, Augusta, and Judy Anne make you feel pampered and most welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and hope to return soon! A snorkeling paradise.
Not much. A door on the bathroom would’ve been appreciated, but the room was beautiful and stylishly simple and comfortable.

This place is dreamy! Highly recommend staying in Puerta Azul!
Puerta Azul, it's a lovely place to stay in Roatan! I would not want to stay anywhere else. Our cottage/house was perfect, clean, stylish, and beautiful! The main house and the rest of the cottages were surrounded by unique plants and palm trees that gave plenty of privacy. The windows have screens, so bugs and mosquitoes were never a problem. Mosquitoes weren't a huge issue anyway. Some sand flies, but that is common across the whole Island. We were greeted with delicious coffee and an even more delightful breakfast every morning! I didn't know you could serve eggs in so many ways! The ingredients were fresh and of fantastic quality. The beach was located a few steps away from our house, with fantastic access to the reef. Reef, including Spooky Channel, is worth swimming too! We could see beautiful tropical fish. Once, we saw an eagle ray off the dock. There are hammocks at the end of the extended deck that we enjoyed a lot as well. Additionally, you can grab a kayak and explore the shoreline. Antony Key's is a few paddles away, from where you can see the dolphins kept in captivity. Since we wanted to visit many other places on the Island, we rented a car and were glad about it. I highly recommend doing it, because it allows you to explore more local foods and scenery. However, whenever we came back from West End, West Bay or other places, we were grateful for the peaceful and quiet Puerta Azul place. To sum up, I recommend staying at Puerta Azul. Talia, Augusta and the rest of the wonderful crew will do everything to make your stay unforgettable. Thank you for all your support!
Some renovations were going on during the day beside our beach, which was a bit loud. However, that is a temporary thing; and it was no one's fault.

great! I’d stay there again.
the huts are really nice with hammocks and chairs. the staff was very accommodating when we couldn’t there on the first day because the ferries weren’t running. the food was great!
there was no door to the restroom in one cabin. that was awkward.
