About this cabin rental

Located in Gila County, this lovely cabin for $130 per night is a great option for your next vacation. Listen to the trickling stream from your back porch. Watch butterflies play in the fruit trees. Pick a few blackberries and dip your toes in the water... Blackberry Cabin is a cozy log cabin set back on an acre of pine and fruit trees in the community of Whispering Pines. The fenced backyard leads to the banks of the East Verde, sometimes a gushing river, other times a rocky stream, where locals wade and catch the stocked trout. Riverbanks are lined by grass, flowers and blackberries which you are welcome to pick! Our property includes a unique stone embankment where swallows and other birds like to zip by, with a steep hill behind leading to national forest land. Watch for wandering deer and elk! Inside there is an open living and dining area with a fully stocked kitchen - just bring your favorite food! There is a loft bedroom with a pleasant sitting area close to the air on warm afternoons, with room for friends or family in the sleeper couch below. On cool fall or winter nights the toasty wood stove will keep you warm with that lovely radiant heat. Whispering Pines is a small neighborhood of full time residents and visitors escaping the heat and bustle of the city! It is minutes from excellent hiking trails at Washington Park and various public access points on the East Verde. In addition to proximity to the ever-increasing line up of activities in Payson, it is close to local attractions like Tonto National Bridge, and the towns of Strawberry and Pine.

My best friend and I decided to take a trip to the Payson area to get away from city life and have some time to relax and spend reconnecting. After 50 years of friendship we had never taken a trip together. It was very nice to get away to the BlackBerry cabin. It was comfortable and cozy. The surrounding area is beautiful and the sound of the stream while out on the porch, calming. We enjoyed staying at the cabin and appreciated the attention to detail from homemade blackberry jam to the homemade soap that was lovely. The cabin is a bit rustic and we loved it. The beds were comfortable. Just what we were looking for and Gabriel, the host, was very communicative and kind. We would stay there again, for sure. We loved it!!

The cabin could use some maintenance and a little deep cleaning. Bathroom sink drained too slowly. All inside window frames were very dirty. Many cobwebs. Otherwise, nice place to get away and relax.

Right on the riverside, this cabin fit our needs so well. The best welcoming with homemade Jam and pancake mix, we felt right at home. Perfect for the adventurer, homebody, stargazer, and cook! Everything you need and we felt very secure and safe! 5 stars all around. Thank you , Gabe!

Wonderfully managed "greenscaping" thorough out the property which is at the end of a road, tucked into a bend of the East Verde river. Sitting on a comfortable rear patio, looking over the grassy back yard surrounded by a variety of trees we found the perfect sitting to experience the practice of Forest Bathing as we learned from a book of that title which describes this ancient art developed in Japan.

Overall, a much needed streamfront cabin getaway that exceeded our expectations. The cozy 2 story cabin was beautiful, clean, well decorated and stocked with all key kitchen needs. We didn't use the tv upstairs, however, make good use of the cd/radio player with excellent sound. The location of this cabin is also very special, a good 10-12 miles outside of the busier sections of Payson, much more out in wilderness which is what we were looking for. Once exiting the main road of 87, the the slower scenic drive, with numerous turns, amazing views of the Mogollon Rim is unique journey in itself. We even witnessed a roadrunner, crossing the road in a high desert section of this drive. Sitting out in the backyard in the dark of night, we enjoyed the sounds of the stream/nature, the multitude of stars in the sky and the trees which all came alive in a very memorable/spiritual symphony. Finally, the host/property manager Gabriel was appreciative/caring/concerned/fair/prompt/reliable in addressing any questions. Thank you Gabriel for allowing us to share some special time at your streamfront cabin and for all of your caring, friendly, timely and professional assistance. Made our stay all the better with your high level of assistance and care. All the best!!!

Probably my fault for not vetting this property more thoroughly, like seeing the elk heads on the wall. The place was just too rustic for me. The setting appears very nice and relaxing, and the backyard was just that. The cabin was pretty uncomfortable. The upstairs queen bed was very hard and squeaked with only the minimal of movements. The couch upstairs had some good sagging going on. Since that was the only location for the television, this got uncomfortable quickly. I ended up sleeping on the hid-a-bed downstairs as the best place to sleep, if you can imagine. Also, the only bath is downstairs. The stairs are steep, almost like a ladder, so night time up or down was dangerous. No throw blankets around, only the quilts for the beds and it was cold. The river was very close and I loved hearing the water from the cabin and backyard. Getting to the river was tricky. Once through the gate, the climb down to the river was steep and rocky. Had to hold onto a juniper bush to get down. Once down there, the trail to the left was short, the trail to the right was non existent. I could not see a clear way to the right and the canyon without rock scrambling. I was not willing to take that risk. The location is about 30 minutes from Payson on a winding road. Also, unlocking and locking the entry gate was annoying. So, I will review better next time as this was way too basic and dangerous for me.

The cabin itself is nice. The parking is not so great. It lies at the end of a fenced-on-both-sides narrow road, with two spaces to park that are very difficult to back up and around to get out of (I have a Camry, so not a large car). Removing some large rocks, and turning it into a round-about space would eliminate that issue completely, and would not be a real problem if you just plan on remaining in the cabin the entire stay, only having to do the turnaround single time. The air-conditioner works very well in cooling the entire cabin down, despite the 90+ degrees we had while there, and once night falls, can be shut off. Would be more enjoyable to have a large tv downstairs with access to cable, or at least the capability to bring and plug your own devices into for watching, as going up and down the stairs for the bathroom or food/beverages can get tiring, especially after a day of hiking. The landscaped backyard is a beatiful space to sit and enjoy coffee, drinks, or pretty much anything, with the sounds of the river flowing just beyond the fence. The overall experience was very positive. We unplugged, except for music, for most of the 4 nights we stayed. If you are looking to get out of the fast-paced daily living zone, this is definitely the place to do it! We would definitely return!
