The best hostel we’ve stayed in

Wow - what can I say about Maya Papaya, except that the staff made the experience for us. Hector was the friendliest and chattiest bar keep with an epic energy and really, really good margaritas with a big smile. He has been working there 6 years and loves the place and you can tell. We stayed in a private compact room and it was super clean and comfortable with great bedding and fast internet. The place has been really well thought out and has a games room and hammocks and the free breakfast is really delicious and filling. I honestly couldn’t fault the place - it was the best hostel either of us had stayed at because of the friendly staff and the general set up. They’ve nailed it. 10/10.

Hotel Okay, bad staff, location good.

The location is good, the garden and bathroom are both good. The breakfast is okay

The staff! It is really a shame to have these 2 guys serving in this hotel, specially the guy named Hector was really unfriendly, he never looked at guests and never smile, his face was like a kid got punished (I talked to other guests during breakfast they said the same!). So sad that this hotel keeps this guy here, not at all the hospitality that I experienced during my stay in Antigua: everyone I've met, staffs of my next hotel after Maya Papaya (luckily I stayed in Maya only 1 night, and of course never wanna meet this kind of staff again), the staffs in restaurants, bars, people in the streets, street vendors, are all sooooo friendly and always smiling and helpul. This first night in Antigua was a bit negative, until my checkout. But luckily the remaining days in other hotel was just perfect! The staff needs to learn how to work with guests, Antigua is an extremely nice place, if he is not happy there, maybe he could move to another sector?

Hostel bonito, limpo e confortável.

O espaço exterior/social é muito agradável, bonito, bem decorado e limpo. O staff foi todo prestável e simpático. O pequeno almoço é bom. O quarto individual é bonito e o colchão da cama é bastante confortável. Apesar de não usar, o wc partilhado estava muito bem limpo, e com espaços individuais para as pessoas se secarem e vestirem.

Alugamos o quarto com wc privativo, contudo quando chegamos ao hostel, o wc era partilhado com outro quarto. Não fomos informados que seria um wc a partilhar com dois quartos.

A lovely stay at a nice property in Antigua.

The location and ambience were great! It was comfortable and laid back.

My room was next to the bar so I heard the conversations occurring just outside of my room. Lights out was at a decent time so this wasn’t too much of an issue.

Das Hostel ist toll eingerichtet, hell und einladend. Die Hostelcrew ist mega freundlich und offen und animiert abends jeden zur Geselligkeit, während man tagsüber die Ruhe genießen kann. Donnerstags ist Free Salsa Class und ihr könnt abends mit den Locals an der Bar ins Gespräch kommen und später mit ihnen in einen Club weiterziehen. Super Frühstück und bequeme Betten. Und die besten Duschen, die ich in 30 Tagen Guatemala benutzt habe.

Alles wunderbar, solange man ein 14-Bett-Zimmer verkraftet. Die 4-Bett-Alternative ist noch mehr zu empfehlen und kostet nur unwesentlich mehr.

Beste hostel van antigua

Alles ! Goede communicatie , goeie coctails , goeie bedden zeeeeeeer aangenaam en vriendelijk personeel !!! Kort om top ervaring en zou het iedereen die naar antigua komt aan raden!!!! Zeeeeeeer mooie binnen tuin alles is aanwezig , het was een fantastisch verblijf!!!!!!

Schönes Hostal mit Küche

Gute Atmosphäre, freundliches Personal, auch im großen Dorm kann man's ein paar Nächte aushalten, da der Raum groß ist und es Vorhänge an den Betten gibt, getrennte Bäder, Netflix, Rückzugsorte, gut ausgestattete Küche, gutes Frühstück, gepflegt

Wasserspender zum Auffüllen von Trinkflaschen waren manchmal längere Zeit leer

Avoid 4 bed dorms

Bed was comfy, chilling area was great but they didn’t show us on arrival. spacious restrooms and showers.

I had a very bad experience there because I couldn’t sleep. I stayed in the 4 bed dorm for 3 nights. I would avoid the 4 bed dorm as it’s practically in the bar and breakfast area. The bar is blaring music until 11pm and then at 7am they start the music again. No consideration from the staff to lower the party after 11. Annoying as hell. I tried to change room but they didn’t offer me any options while I saw there was availability online. Also, everyone can enter the rooms as it’s unlocked.

Comfortabel hostel!

Comfortabele bedden en hele fijne douches (fijnste van de reis, regendouche). Als er een leuke groep mensen is dan is de sfeer ook heel leuk. Elke dag drie opties voor ontbijt. Loopafstand van het centrumpje in Antigua

De staff is niet heel erg bijdragend aan de sfeer, als de reizigers het niet zelf doen gebeurt er dus niet zo veel, maar ze zijn wel heel aardig

Best hostel in Antigua!

Great hostel with beautiful decoration! Individual cabin showers and nice bathroom area, the dorm is also perfect with curtains and big lockers. Nice outside area with a bar, the barman was super nice!

Great staff, and great food! had an amazing stay!

I really liked the curtains around the bed, the place was clean and the toilets and showers were of very high standard. I also really loved the breakfast, there was 3 different choices and something that would suit everyone, and all the food was really nice. Staff were lovely too!

The doors into the dorm rooms don't have keys so are accessible by everyone. It also would have been really good if there was a place where you can lock up your belongings. otherwise I found that the Hostel was amazing!

Very good hostel in centre of Antigua!

Very friendly personnel and good hostel in centre of Antigua. Location is very good, 10min walk to the centre. Breakfasts included is alsof very nice. You can also leave your luggago here safely in case you would hike the Acatenango. Small private room, but everything you need.

Small one: 1 night we had a shared bathroom and the shower and toilet were in the same room. So sometimes a bit annoying if you wanted to go to the toilet while someone was showering.

wonderful clean hostel with great friendly staff

Loved the friendly staff, the delicious free breakfast, comfortable beds and how it was so so clean! The cleaning ladies seem to always be cleaning (they even make your bed for you if you’re staying more than one night which I don’t think is necessary).

the only downside about the property is that the bathrooms in the mixed dorm (one for female and one for male) didn’t have any space to put your items and there is literally just a shower curtain and no where to get changed unless you change in the actual shower. Apparently they are doing renovations in August to upgrade this so this will be amazing!

Loved it, but maybe a bit pricey.

The staff were amazing. It was clean and the beds were really good. The breakfast and coffee were great.

The bathrooms are small and not so comfortable. There was no air conditioning in the room. The hostel is pretty small

Most comfortable shared dorm I’ve ever stayed at. Amazing place for a solo experience

They had a space for everything in their common areas! The beds were surprisingly comfy considering they were bunk beds

The bed area needs improvement. Bottom bunks should have curtains that close all the way, and some more hooks inside the bunk bed space would be very useful

Great hostel but issues with booking shuttle nearly derailed trip

Great location, friendly staff, and good social atmosphere

DO NOT BOOK A SHUTTLE WITH THEM I was told to meet my shuttle in two different places due to traffic. When the shuttle was 20 mins late I called the hostel and they informed me that I was supposed to meet them at a hitherto unknown third location and I missed my shuttle. I ended up having to book an uber for 4× the cost as there were no more shuttles that day

nice hostel, but splurge for a private room.

the location was fantastic and the staff were so helpful and friendly.

the 4 bed dorms are right by the bar, and you can hear everything. the 4 bed dorm was also incredibly hot at night.

we enjoyed the good vibes at maya papaya! it's very easy to socialize as there are great common areas! the staff is super nice - special thanks to cristian & hector for making our short stay worthwhile and fun!

generally the hostel was very clean, only our shared bathroom (the one you get a key for) wasn't cleaned during our 24h stay

Very nice hostel with lush gardens, clean rooms, very comfy bed. Staff is very helpful. And they have two cute dogs :)

Superb

Great stay at Maya Papaya. It's on the more expensive side, but comparable to other similar hostels in the area. Delicious breakfast included and fun events at the cute bar. Staff are helpful and can you book you a bunch of different excursions, including the ride to and from the airport in Guatemala City.

Perfect hostel in Antigua

private room was spacious, with a good bed. Very clean. Breakfast (2 choices) very good. Staff very helpful and friendly. When I had to leave early, they made breakfast to go for me.

I was in the last room in the hallway, which is the only one that is directly bordering the street. Late in the evening you get a lot of noise from passing cars and motorcycles. After midnight it gets quiet though. So only a minor issue if you want to go te sleep early. Other rooms were not close to the street.
