This is a unique, very cool place. The owners have given it real character. The hotel restaurant was great and perfect for travelers who neither want fast food or to search for a good meal. There is also a full bar on property that looked like a great place for someone less travel weary.
Is there any hotel off I-40 that doesn’t have traffic noise?

Love the older decor and history of the place.
Extremely small bathroom. However to be expected either the original hotel. Still a great place.

The Hotel El Rancho is wonderful. Walking into the lobby is like walking back in time to the heyday of Route 66. The room was large and comfortable. The decor reflects the time when the El Rancho was used by movie stars filming in the area around Gallup. The rooms are named for the various stars who stayed at the hotel.
The only thing I didn't like was the size of the bathroom, it was tiny.

A great old style western hotel with great charm and charisma. We discovered Hotel El Rancho during our cross country trip last year and now we make a stay part of our plans. Pet friendly! There is so much to see and read in the lobby alone … spending hours reviewing the exhibits and items in the two story lobby.
If you are a fan of authentic Native American art and jewelry, there is a shop in the hotel as well as countless stores/trading posts in the area to browse and bargain for the real thing.
Last but not least they have a very nice menu at the restaurant … we’ve eaten there twice and it was excellent.
Other favorites … gift shop, the Hollywood history, the lobby’s huge fireplace
Nothing to say … just wish I could stay there more than once a year.

There is no doubt that this hotel is committed to its authenticity.
The foyer area and upstairs balcony give off a wonderful Western movie ambiance. You genuinely feel like you have stepped back in time.
Our room was also nicely decorated along the same theme with various accoutrements on the walls etc
Staff were friendly and helpful throughout
Our room was sited directly off the lobby so every time other guests travelled to or from their room they went past our door.
We could also hear every visit to the large ice machine, the piano music after we had retired to bed and the conversation in the room next door.
Whilst we understand the drive to be authentic the bathroom was basically a closet. My husband is 6ft 3 and it was a real struggle.

The location was great just off the highway with lots of parking. The ambiance was also wonderful with a huge fireplace and a warm fire. Perfect after a long drive in freezing temps.
The bar area was nice and they let us take our drink to the fireplace to enjoy the fire.
The food at the restaurant was overpriced and not great. The servers were very nice and attentive, but we had a problem with one of our dishes and the cook came out to let us know he cooked it correctly. It was a bit passive aggressive and not necessary.

It is a classic hotel and very nicely decorated… been here before and will come back again!
The bathroom was very small…

Nostalgic and charming
Small bathroom but this isn’t a deal breaker as I don’t hangout there any longer than necessary.

The hotel was easy to find.
The room was not in the El Rancho building, it was in a building next door that was a former hotel of another name. The building had a locking gate around it "for safety." The room smelled like marijuana and there were dirty socks in the room. We did not feel safe in the location, but it was late and we didn't want to drive around Gallup looking for another room. It was disappointing as we thought we were staying at the historic El Ranchio.

Loved the decor. The rooms are so adorable. Little small, but old so as to be expected. Staff was great.

Great vibe with a tot of old movie memorabilia and photographs. good restaurant and bar. The rooms were quirky, decked out with old pop culture memorabilia. Great fun.
It was a shame that we were in the motel building across the car park. having said that, the room was comfortable, and probably a bit quieter.

The hotel was interesting and full of history. The gift shop and restaurant has a great selection of food and souvenirs.
The air conditioning unit was making noise all night. The night staff needs to be alerted somehow to new patrons coming to check in, we waited at the desk area to check in about 10 minutes.

Nice staff, willing to give us additional information about the city and events going-on.
An historical hotel with dozen of pictures of famous guests in the past years.
Good restaurant with extended working hours (compared to the standard)
The hotel is close to the railroad. So, some train may be a bit noisy

Stayed in the motel wing which was just remodeled and has the full on Route 66 theme! We almost didn’t want to bring our out of era luggage in … it brought such a smile to our faces.
They could level out the pavement in the parking lot, but that’s really reaching for a complaint !

The history is awesome. Not a lot of remodeling which I enjoyed - loved the 40’s and 50’s vibe. And the western feel.
Great restaurant with good cocktails.
I was traveling with my dog and it was hard to find a good spot for a walk. We went to Red Rock park at dusk - so beautiful!!

The historical nature of the hotel was awesome. The layout and decorations were unique. Even an old fashion elevator was fun.
Being an old hotel it really isn’t set up for today’s electronic world. No electrical outlet in the bathroom which made it hard for my wife to blow dry her hair. The bathroom was very small but that was the way it was in the 1930’s and 40’s.

Absolutely fantastic place! Has been restored beautifully to how it was when the hotel was used by the stars of the Westerns. Lots of memorabilia. Staff all friendly and the rooms comfy. We had a suite for 6 of us and it was the most spacious room we've had by far on this roadtrip. Our kids (20, 18, 17 and 15) loved it too and all of us wished we'd booked 2 nights not just 1. Would definitely recommend!

Love the history and beauty of this old hotel.
My son left his brand new ASICS tennis shoes in one of our rooms and we have been unable to recover them.
