Beautiful room, spacious, excellent location and staff were very helpful. Even when I needed some extras that I'd forgotten, they were happy to help. The hotel manager was also extremely helpful.

I pre-paid with Booking.com, hotel didn't receive the payment through their own system, resulting in me being double charged and a bit of a stressful experience getting the money back, however, the hotel manager also gave me goodwill which I thought was very kind and would encourage me to return despite a payment system issue

Great location. Close to the Castle and the Royal Mile. Breakfast was excellent. Well stocked with tea, coffee, etc.

The bar was adequate but overall disappointing. Bathroom was very small and difficult to move around. There was blood on one of the pillows when we moved in that stayed there for another night so clearly linens were not refreshed.

Ideally situated

We had a king premium room which backed on to an alley where glass bottles were being thrown in the trash at ridiculous hours during the night and from 6am, absolutely awful.

There was a great Selection for breakfast Continental choice was great to all lovely fresh fruit Great breakfast 👍

This is my 3rd year stay and was very disappointed my daughter sister and niece stayed over and we were just back to the hotel from Xmas shopping and a complaint went in for noise which was ridiculous we were chatting laughing I couldn’t believe someone would complain we did go down to reception to raise our concern I don’t think I will be back lady on desk took my email address but still haven’t heard from hotel

There was nothing to dislike about the property.

Beautiful historic building, restored beautifully inside and out. The service is 5* and you are looked after from walking through the front door, which is opened for you to the moment you leave. Attention to detail is phenomenal.

My only wee grumble would have been breakfast. It would have been better for a menu for individual cooked dishes on the table, we hadn’t realised there was a choice other than the buffet breakfast, which was still very good I may add. We had a vegetarian in the party and would have been better to had the choice of more that was on offer at the buffet. The filter coffee was weak, however upon asking we were promptly brought an Americano.

However, the room was tiny and we were woken up by the fire alarm that went off twice at 1am and our room was next to the storage cupboard and this kept waking us up in the morning. When speaking to the staff about this on check out, they didn’t seem to care and didn’t say sorry or anything.. poor service and a bad nights sleep!

Room was up a lift then down a lift so just better to be on one floor

There was a good breakfast choice, the location was central and the hotel was very clean. But that's where the positives end.

There was no mini bar in the room, the decor was tired, the bathroom was ridiculously small, we were asked to leave the bar at midnight on our first night, mattress toppers really thin. Overall poor value for money. The evacuation of the hotel in the middle of the night for a false fire alarm summed up our stay. Won't be back.

Lovely room, very clean, staff very helpful. Great location. Breakfast lovely and buffet items hot but no mention or offer if items cooked to order like eggs,so only had option of scrambled on the buffet.

Perfect location for train station, tourist attractions and restaurants/pubs. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bed was very comfortable and room was cosy!

We were in a separate part of the hotel which was not accessible via any lift and was quite complicated to find. Without attentive staff, we would have never found it. Also the bath was very small, thankfully the shower was good. Television in room was very temperamental too.

The staff was fantastic and super friendly. The hotel was superbly located and the breakfast was everything you needed, and a bit more!

Parking wise was a bit difficult, but we managed. The hall ways could be a bit more interesting and not so monocoloured

The quality of food at breakfast (considering how much the room cost) was decidedly average. Only had the cooked breakfast once (out of three days) because it was so bad. The card reader in our room was faulty, so the first all the lights in the room kept switching on and off randomly. I eventually removed the room key and sat in darkness to watch TV, then when I went to sleep I could hear the relay in the device, randomly switching. Although this was fixed the following day after I reported it, there was no apology, no offer of anything to compensate (bearing in mind this room was almost £550 per night!).

Location was perfect for visiting Edinburgh. Breakfast was good but busy. Employees try their best to accommodate everyone’s needs the best they can.

Maybe it’s the excessive rain or just the need to refresh the carpets in corridors and bedrooms, our floor had a damp smell that wasn’t very pleasing.

Excellent location. Special request for a quiet room for our visit to celebrate my husband's birthday was accommodated and a small birthday treat awaiting in our room was very well received.
