Comfortable stay with excellent service

Having read some of the reviews, I was a little nervous about staying in one of the more expensive places in Montecristi. Look no further…this hotel is well worth the expense. We had to make a last minute reservation. El Morro was communicative and very understanding and considerate, and so we were able to check in early…muchas gracias. The room was comfortable, cool and clean…which is all that we wanted from this particular trip. The attention to detail and to our specific needs was excellent. Breakfast, which was included, was varied. They were able to make a stronger expresso strength coffee and heated up our (lactose free) milk that we had brought. Our server, Reni, was most accommodating and attentive. Nevertheless, the hotel's location is exceptional because it is at the base of this very large rock formation, El Morro, which can be seen from miles around because everything else is on the plain surrounding one of the principal Dominican rivers, El Yaque Del Norte, and because it is almost next to the beach and Atlantic Ocean.

Only two very minor gripes… 1) When the water is turned on, the unusual 'melting plastic' smell coming from the tap (faucet) of the shower and hand basin. 2) The music coming from the bar and food places a few hundred metres away, which is completely out of the hotel's control, could be annoying to some guests. However, we so tired that it didn't bother us.

There is not much to do in the surrounding area beside the beach and the Morro.

Pleasant Time in Monte Cristi

El Morro Eco Adventure Hotel is located in Monte Cristi which is maybe about 10-15 mins from the Haitian border. I enjoyed the tropical theme of the property along with the fact that the hotel is located within an area that has been kept natural. As a result of this you will notice cattle in certain areas of the hotel/resort. The location is right up the road from the actual “El Morro” which is a breathtaking site and probably one of the most beautiful sights of the island. The reservation included free breakfast which was an excellent part of the experience. The breakfast menu is excellent and the hotel provides large portions. I enjoyed the Dominican breakfast consisting of mangu, fried cheese, 2 eggs and Dominican salami as well as the pancake breakfast which included 3 pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon. The hot chocolate was probably the best I’ve ever had and they also have a fair selection of natural fruit juices. The dinner menu was also great and they even accommodated my girlfriend and I by cooking some porkchops we bought at the supermarket and just charged us a fair service charge of 300 DOP.

The only thing I disliked about the hotel was the heavy presence of aggressive mosquitoes that were constantly biting me. I would like to point of that this is really not an issue that the hotel can resolve because this part of the island is very natural and has all types of insects.
