A haven for relaxation in Arugam Bay

We LOVED the Spice Trail. We booked this hotel as a last minute stay for 3 nights, and it really is a slice of heaven in Arugam Bay. Our room was huge, and the minimal boho decor made it a haven for relaxation - the private garden was an added bonus! The breakfast at Spice Trail was our favourite food that we had in the whole of Arugam Bay. I recommend the Masala Eggs! Thank you so much - we wish we could have stayed longer.

Not really the hotels fault but the amount of flies in the lobby/breakfast area. But this was also a problem everywhere we went in Arugam Bay!

Piece of paradise in een drukke straat

Dit heerlijke plekje met dito zwembad zit in het midden van de drukke straat. De kamers zijn ruim, netjes, van alle gemakken voorzien en vooral met een heerlijk bed! Het personeel en vooral de manager verzorgen je tot in de puntjes. Op het terrein zit een heerlijk restaurant en een topper van een koffiezaak, met heerlijke koffie en ontbijtjes. Wij waren hier eind januari, dan is het laagseizoen en is het plaatsje maar half open en de stranden vooral druk met vissersboten. Vanaf april is Arugam Bay wel de place to be!

Good location, bad service

The location and the overall ambience was nice

The venue was nice however when we came back from dinner around 9pm there was a frog in the bathroom. We tried to contact the owner about this but no answer which meant my wife couldn’t use the bathroom. After this I tried to go to reception but no-one was at the front desk and it was not even 10pm. The dogs then proceeded to bark loudly but no-one was around to pay attention. The frog entered the room and made it very hard to sleep. Avoid this location at all costs if you don’t want frogs in your room. The bar was also closed for no apparent reason and the staff did not understand any dietary requirements. This whole experience has put us off Argaum Bay

A sanctuary of comfort and friendliness

Although this was quiet season and the rains were prevalent , The Spice Trail was a delight to stay at. The staff were all friendly and relaxed but attentive without being intrusive. Our favourite staff member was Marshall the meet and greet pooch. Our room was a little sanctuary and very spacious. The shower a treat. the food was yummy and although options were limited , I am sure in busier times it would be fabulous. Would definitely stay again when in Aragumbay . Thanks @Spice Trail.

limited food options in restaurant as it was "quiet season" which was disappointing, so we went ; elsewhere at times.

Great place to stay!

Lovely pool, nice houses with your own private garden, great location and friendly staff

Everything’s clean and neat, but the bathroom had a bit of a smell - nothing major, but that could be improved

A lovely stay in a great location

The location is perfect. It’s a shady hideaway amongst the hustle and bustle of the main Street. Can walk to the main beach easily. The rooms are spacious and clean with a nice big bed and shower. All of the staff were so welcoming and friendly. Loved the 2 dogs and 2 cats that are permanent residents also.

The only minor thing is the water pressure of the shower. But hey, you're at Arugam Bay!

pleasant stay but feel as though the hotel needs an upgrade for linens etc

very accommodating staff. central location. kept very clean and good air con. lunch at LBK kitchen was lovely. gorgeous pool and gardens.

our toilet broke twice which was frustrating. the breakfast wasn’t great. we originally booked 2 rooms but one stunk of smoke so we had to share one room for 4 nights. linens, towels and curtains were quite old and rough and need an upgrade.

Relaxing days in a high quality hotel offering great food and big clean rooms

Amazing relaxing place right in the middle of Arugam bay! Great Breakfast! Big Rooms and friendly service. must stay for Arugam Bay. as soon as you arrive to the pool towels are given to you. service always available.

The pool could have been cleaner there were some kind of bugs/ insects living in the corners of the pool- however otherwise a fabulous place!

The choice for those who appreciate the quality of service and comfort.

A great place for those who appreciate comfort and service. The staff was very kind and helpful, any request was fulfilled in a short time. You could relax and enjoy your holiday. Pleased with the cleanliness of the pool - it was cleaned every morning. The guests of the hotel are also nice people, mostly Europeans who have a rest without children. The room has many pleasant little things that are made with love. The bed is magnificent, every time I lay down on it, it was as if I fell into a cloud.

- Each room has a patio. The gardener has access to it and goes to cut the plants in the morning. There was a situation when I was taking a shower, and there were large glass doors opposite the shower, and the gardener went into the yard and started trimming the bushes right in front of me taking a shower. It wasn't very pleasant. - Wi-Fi internet is slow and cuts out frequently, so I used my mobile. - There is a problem with the sockets that are located by the bed at some point stopped charging the devices. - Yard dogs often walk on the territory and when you sit down to eat they run up and watch you eat, waiting for a piece of food, sometimes this causes discomfort. - It would be nice if the breakfast menu changed every week because the same choice gets boring.

Lovely big rooms and bathrooms, lovely pool and the best coffee shop in town at the entrance. Excellent location right across the road from the beach and in the heart of town.

Perfect location in arugam bay. Beautiful and comfortable rooms. Gorgeous pool. Poolside snacks and drinks were delicious. Attentive staff. Highly recommend.

Great place but service needs to improve.

Really nice place, staff are lovely, rooms clean, great location. Really nice cocktails

The service was so slow. We ordered breakfast for 8am and didnt get it till 9:15. Cocktails took a long time to make. Overall very slow confused service

Great stay in the heart of Aragum Bay

Beautiful rooms and ground, that were surrounded by walkable beaches, restaurants and shops. An oasis in Aragum Bay.

Would have appreciated more visible front office staff. The staff in the kitchen went out of their way to help when no one was in the front office.

Perfect rooms with a pool on site for a trip to Arugam Bay.

Perfect location, big size rooms, clean and friendly staff. Great little coffee bar at the entrance.

Not right on the beach so for breakfast we walked across the road. Not much view from the rooms. The food is okay, but plenty of options around the hotel to give you variety.

Exceptional

One of the best hotels we've been in Sri Lanka. The rooms are big and clean and wach hast a lovely small garden. The pool area is small but very well maintained and the food at the restaurant is absolutely delicious. We would come again and again.

The room is big and wifi which is very importantly good as well as fast.

I think the area need to be lit up with more bright lights especially in the night time we the light is very dimmed.

Though it was low season in Arugam bay, the swimming pool was very clean and warm, food was good and the room was beautiful and clean.

Everything did! The staff at Spice Trail are exceptional. They care and they show it. That alone has me recommend the place to others. In addition, the hotel, its pool, the cafe at its front, all of those look and feel slick. The particular standouts for me were the pool and the cafe at the front (standout coffee and that vegan banana cake was to kill for). The cherry on top of all that was being taken by the hotel owner and their property manager to a surf spot a half hour of a drive away. That was hospitality of another order.

There was one thing and one thing only that could be improved on and that's their WiFi, but specifically in their rooms. Otherwise, it was solid.

A good all-rounder

This is a nice affordable option on the roadside in Arugam Bay. Staff are really good and rooms are very spacious with great A/C. There's a nice pool too and a good bar that has great happy hour discounts. The hotel has all the things you'd expect for a cheap stay.

Wifi is so so. It's great for a base in the area although it doesn't have a great deal of charm

great relaxing atmosphere beside pool. rooms were great, spacious and clean. Attentive staff and very helpful. Nice wee coffee shop on site and set back from main road making the room real quiet. morning visits on the premises from monkeys was also a treat.

Second time staying here and it lived up to my memories.

Very nice rooms set in a pleasant gardens with a lovely swimming pool.

The only thing that lets them down is their food. Don't bother with the breakfast.
