Sundara was one of the top 2 hotels on our trip. We had the beach villa and this was the perfect choice. Service is outstanding, food ist very good. Wonderful beach with a natural whirlpool. The last 3 days of our trip could not have been better. 100 percent recommendation.

All I can say is that I left crying, leaving behind some wonderful people who made us happy, who satisfied all our wishes, took care of us, discreetly, without disturbing the surrounding peace.There is no qualification for the services offered. We had the privilege of being the only tourists in the hotel and all the staff managed to satisfy all our wishes. Do not miss the opportunity to cross their threshold if you are in the area. A small location with special people, where you will feel treated like a king.

Great boutique hotel directly on a mostly deserted beach in the middle of a wonderful green and well-kept garden. Beautifully prepared premises and very good equipment of the rooms with great attention to detail. Relaxed atmosphere in the midst of nature and with wonderful and attentive service staff who fulfill every wish. Delicious and always freshly prepared food - both local delicacies and international cuisine. All in all a wonderful place to relax or as a base for various day trips. We would come back anytime. Thanks to Prasad and the whole team for the hospitality at Sundara and making our stay very special!

We had a wonderful stay at the Sundara - not only the property is beautiful and well cared for but also the staff did an exceptional job in making us feel welcome and at home. Prasad helps with bookings of massages or tours, Hassan and his colleagues don’t leave any gastronomical wishes open. Everyone is friendly and caring. We enjoyed swimming in the nice pool, the spacious rooms, the delicious food & drinks and the direct beach access. We swam in the ocean, but check the tides before as waves can be quite high.

best property we’ve ever stayed in. all of the following were world class- service, food quantity and quality, location, pool, access to the beach. most of all a bit shout out to the staff and the ability to customize for our sake as we had 2 small kids.

Wow, such a pearl! Nice people, pleasant service, beautiful scenery, a perfect place to relax. The rooms were spacious, the atmosphere were intimate and we felt very safe.
Beds were somewhat too hard, we sometimes struggled with the English communication, and we would have enjoyed a cocktail menu and better assortment on the drinks.

We stayed at 4 different hotels on our trip, all 5* and the Sundara was undoubtedly the best, and the food was the best we had in Sri Lanka. Could not recommend it highly enough, it was superb!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were also very accommodating with the time when they served breakfast and what they served. We could eat our meals at our terrace overlooking the swimming pool and the ocean which have added to the positive experience. One of the outstanding staff member was Mr. Salika. His colleague, whose name I do not remember, was also very helpful and kind. The room and the bathroom were specious and well appointed. Short walk to a wide beach and the ocean. A good place to stay and someone needs peace and quiet.
Nothing really was on the negative side but I was a bit puzzled when they requested the payment for the whole stay to be made upfront as if the management did not trust us.

The staff were amazingly lovely, super attentive and beyond helpful.
Booking.com advertises this as a 5* property but it's not really. No mini bar, robes, etc. Despite the beautiful staff the room itself was a little tired and some of the taps in the bathroom were broken. Sadly, the hotel insisted on charging me for a night that I had given 7 days notice to cancel, I was aware that it was within their cancelation policy but I do think this was unfair. Also, during our stay my elderly mother became unwell, the hotel tried to charge an additional $10 to arrange a covid test, a little excessive given the situation.
We couldn't swim in the sea as the tides were fierce and there were warning signs.

Secluded, sort of private villa with 6 rooms and very personalised service.
Not many Sri Lankan items on the menu. Beach was clean in front of the hotel, but, being a public beach, less so in other areas.

Location was right on the beach - beautiful views to the ocean and the pool from almost all the rooms. The restaurant setting is gorgeous and the food was absolutely delicious. Service was impeccable and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate all requests.

We booked a sea view room and this was the best decision. We received the room on the ground floor, right from the entrance. The room is very spacious and elegant. Big bathroom and very spacious veranda with 3 sitting options. The villa itself is a beautiful building with only 7 accommodation possibilities. Feels very private, quiet and luxurious. The garden is well kept. The beach is clean and very natural. Allows nice walks like 200-300 m on the left and on the right. The sea was good for swimming at this time of the year. In addition to all this, the staff are a highlight. All of them are very friendly, acting professional and ready to support in all requests. The food in the restaurant was delicious. We tried also other places and we can confirm, that the Sundara kitchen was the best. highly recommend, if looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday with elegance.

The hotel is BEAUTIFUL. Room was gorgeous and the setting is amazing. Pool really lovely and the beach is right there. Service and staff were brilliant and very attentive, and the food was great too.

This hotel is a perfect place for relaxing holidays. It's quite small and very cozy, all rooms are furnitured with style, the territory is green and beautiful, the staff is always at your disposal.
There is a small beach just in front of the building. And most of the time you could be the only one swimming in the ocean!
The food is also great. The chef always tries to adjust the menu to your personal preferences.

Traditional elegant building and grounds opening into the prettiest part of Balapitiya beach (however strewn with litter within steps from the resort), stylish lounges with comfortable furniture (only table games such as chess were missed), spacious bedrooms with grand bathrooms, quality toiletries provided, excellent beddings and bed linen, customised breakfast menu and special dishes upon request, chilled glassware for cold drinks, prompt and courteous restaurant service. Ice cubes and fresh fruit juice was readily provided to go with our own spirits. Prasad is one outstanding staff member and all rounder who has covered any requests and services from room rates to special food orders. Working long shifts and always on his feet, Prasad appears to be able to run the whole resort on his own and definitely deserves a promotion. Staying in Sundara and service from Prasad was the best part of our trip, and a single motivation to come back to Sri Lanka (in a sharp contrast to the situation we encountered in Calamansi Cove next door).
Pest control should be improved in the restaurant area - too many flies; poor wine selection priced at European level - we ended up drinking beer the whole time, and unjustifiable prices for local and imported spirits (higher than in other starred hotels); we were ready to splash out on champagne for the NYE but there was only cheap fizz, not even cava or cremant; the outdoor terrace in Garden Suite poorly designed: no view and dominated by the two huge aircon units on both walls, and sandwiched between the terraces of other rooms separated by the trellis screens only hence we could not use the seating and dining area of our outdoor terrace but for drying towels. The menu and consistency of cooking should be improved: we ordered the same two dishes for lunch before our departure as the day before to be completely disappointed, it was gamy old tuna and not even real prawns.

We had a private villa, it was very cosy, tasty decor, comfy beds, good bathroom amenities. The most we enjoyed our own pool and veranda. We also loved very well kept garden and main pool, beach is beautiful. The main reason to go back is their staff. Our butler Hassan was exceptional! Also housekeeper(do not know his name) who always had smile on his face. Seeing him daily already made us feel so good. Food was suberb as well-barramundi fish was extremely good.
The only little worry was noise outside our bedroom, wich did not let us sleep long enough in the mornings.
Recommendation to chef- please use more spices!
