The people that work there are PHENOMENAL. The place is a little older but had all the island life amenities we needed. A soft, clean bed. A hot shower with good pressure. And black out curtains. Our room also had a kitchenette and a big mini fridge. Employees were kind and attentive. Great seafood restaurant up the road a bit, amazing access to the National Seashore. We were there end of March 2024, so off season. The island is a wonderful adventure. I don't see myself returning during peak season due to sheer volume of people but I'd definitely come back off season. Several restaurants available.

We arrived around 5 pm and was surprised the office door to check in was locked. You had to call a number and we were informed that our key was in the mailbox outside the door. The room itself was very nice although slightly musty smelling. It was spacious, with new flooring, nice paint job, clean white bed linens and towel. The locate There was also a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. I thought there was supposed to be a hair dryer but wasn’t. Luckily, you could get one from the from office. With the exception of the beds I’d have to say that the bathroom and other furniture was pretty dated. Also, the toilet bowl wasn’t cleaned. They need a new bathroom floor too. Although I had some minor complaints, the room was very comfortable as were the beds. I would definitely recommend the hotel to others and would go back myself. The location was great too.

An easy overnight stay at a very reasonable price. Room was comfy and clean. Didn’t encounter any staff in person, self check in and out, but phone contact was ver efficient.

Pros: it is very quiet and the staff are incredibly kind, welcoming, patient, and helpful people. The mattress was good, I have lower back ache and this was firm and no issues.
Cons: the rooms need a lot of work, and I mean A LOT. The first room had a window that wouldn't lock so we changed rooms. The second room had a door with a small gap at the top. It didn't hold heat well and the sheets are thin, no warmth at all. The shower head had multiple issues, struggling to properly work. The water smelled of rust. There were dead flies everywhere. Also, the first room smelled like someone definitely lived in it for a while and was a heavy smoker.
I am all about saving money but there's no way I would stay there again.

The staff was friendly and flexible. My girlfriend and I arrived late at night and we had no problems getting checked in promptly. We also asked for a late checkout and had no issues. All in all, our interactions with the team were nothing but positive.

Check-in was different then I remember. This time I had to make a phone call to get someone to come and check me in. We ran out of toilet paper 1st day and was told their truck never showed up. So my husband and I just when to the store and picked some up. Very quiet area

Kind and helpful concierge unfortunately does not outweigh the mediocrity of the property. Dont be tempted by the proximity to the fairgrounds. There are other properties at similar price points. Our room smelled of must, there was no shower curtain, rust was in abundance, and the mattress sagged splendidly. Everywhere are little notes warning you not to plug in too many things or flip channels incorrectly, otherwise the whole house of cards will tumble.

This was such an unpleasant experience. The room smelled bad and was dirty. The few towels that were in the bathroom as well as the pillow cases were dirty. The shower was dirty. The lady at the front desk tried her best to accommodate us and was very respectful about it.

I am sad to say that this place was the worst experience I have had so far. I didn't have high expectations but the place was in a worse shape than the pictures lead to believe. The room was damp and smelled horribly. There were flies in the room with a fly catcher hanging form the light in the kitchenette (see image). Pillows were just thrown all over the bed, the bathroom had rust around. It was so bad that we left to go back home and not spend the night in there. The overall look and feel was that of walking in a neglected place. I don't know where the other reviews that gave 10/10 to this place came from but they are obviously over inflated and fake.
I did not have any faith that asking for another room would have been any better in this place. So, I didn't bother to ask for one of argue with the front desk. I am sorry but this place was misleading with the pictures and not fair for the price we spent. Very very sad that I spent $500+ for two rooms and could not get a refund because we had already checked in.

Clean and quiet when the carnival isn't open. Great morning walks next to the bay. They have a small continental breakfast. a big parking lot if you have a boat, outside pavilions, a fish station and an outdoor pool. This was our second stay here and both times we got the room with a small kitchen.

I was charged for a room with two queen beds and got two full beds. The room was beyond dirty. The towels had brown spots. The bathroom floor was so dirty I went out and bought towels to lay on the floor. The bathroom sink had hairs in it from where someone shaved in it and it wasn't cleaned. We left on Saturday and we're unable to find the manager to inform them of the departure so nooneu was given back to us. There was supposed to be a continental breakfast from 8-10 I was told it might be 8:15 or 8:30 because the manager had a hard time getting up. Finally the room next to our which was only separated by a door played loud music from 11pm to 3am and no one stopped it.I would not recommend this place to anyone!

Room in desperate need of revamp especially kitchenette and bathroom. Although the floor could do with a deep clean especially into the corners, the sheets and towels were clean.
The fly swot provided was very much used but think that’s a island wide issue…
Oh and no battery in the smoke alarm, but I totally forgot to let them know about that when I checked out.

The staff at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming. The property is central and convenient. My room was shabby though, I don’t mind worn and well-loved but it was not well maintained. There was a finished roll of toilet paper in the holder, there were no bath towels and the floor was very dirty. There were quite a few flies in the room, 5 or 6 at any given time, they did provide a fly swatter but should invest in a permanent solution. There were swatted flies left uncleaned around the room and it made everything feel unhygienic. For the price I paid it was very disappointing.

Um, location is the only real highlight of this motel. If I were to return to Chincoteague Island, I would spend the extra money for a room of better condition. This was the most expensive room in this condition I have ever booked. The pictures on the website were definitely deceptive.

The desk clerk was very sweet and helpful, the location was good, and the room was clean. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were stained, which was unsettling. The room had a musty smell right when we walked in and the AC didn't work properly, causing us to have interrupted sleep because the room got so hot. We were sweating, and that's inexcusable. The room was expensive for having these issues, and the motel was sold out so we couldn't be switched to another room. Although we will be visiting Chincoteague again, we wouldn't stay at this property.

The location was nice, most of the staff friendly but their limitations were costly. They advertised laundry, but the washer/dryer didnt work, pool dirty, soda and ice machine broke, trash on ground beside motel had nails sticking out, food still in cabinets in room and were told they were low on towels (only got 3 in a weeks time between us, wound up buying some). Front desk did help when overcharged for room. Took 2 adjustments. She also helped get fresh linins the night befire leaving. People in neighboring condos friendly.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at the Birchwood Inn in Chincoteague, Virginia, and I cannot recommend it. The most glaring issue was the intense smell of mold in the room. As soon as I entered, I was hit with a musty odor that was impossible to ignore. It was a clear indication that the room lacked proper ventilation and had not been adequately maintained. The moldy smell was a constant presence throughout my stay, making it difficult to relax and enjoy my time at the inn.
On a positive note, I must commend the staff at the motel. They were incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any inquiries or requests. Their attentive service was one of the few redeeming qualities of my stay at Birchwood Inn. Unfortunately, their hospitality alone cannot compensate for the numerous shortcomings of the establishment.
The room itself was a mix of outdated and partially updated elements. While the flooring in the entrance area had been recently upgraded to laminate wood, the rest of the room looked like it hadn't been renovated since the 80s. The mismatched furniture and worn-out fixtures gave the impression of a neglected space. Additionally, during my visit, there were noisy children running around our front door at 11 pm at night, although this is not the motel's fault, it added to the overall negative experience.
Considering what I paid for my stay, which was an enormous amount given the quality of the accommodations, I expected much more.

A very nice lady name Jennifer checked us in. She is very kind and helpful. This motel is average but the people here are amazing and will go above and beyond to help in anyway possible. With that said, it’s a must visit again on my list. This place is right next to the carnival. It can be loud but it’s over at 10 pm. We visited the carnival every night and we LOVE it. We have the front seat to view the fireworks since it’s being held right across the street at the fire department. This place is a hidden gems. It’s not fancy. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money and you are a minimalist. This place is for you. If you stay in a room with the kitchenette, you have to bring everything including your pots and pans down to the forks and spoon. They have microwave, stove and small fridge. The beach which located in Assateague park is gorgeous. $10 per car/day or $45 per year. Bring bugs spray! The mosquitoes are awful and they sure do not discriminate. They are huge! I’m happy with our stay and would recommend this place to the minimalist lifestyle people.

MY biggest reason for a less-than-positive review is that the front office is not staffed regularly. When we arrived, there was no one there and I had to call the number on the door twice before I contacted a person. Even then, it was a long wait before someone came to check us in. We ran into another problem the next day when our key cards did not work and no one was in the office to fix them. We didn't have long to wait that time. The facilities themselves are adequate and clean. The bed was very comfortable, although the room was small and did not have a desk.

The Birchwood Motel is Wonderful in Every Way! The location is spot-on; staff is as helpful and kind as is possible; room was quite clean and neat; we absolutely loved the place and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
