First room the light over the vanity kept going on and off by itself. The a/c would not cool the room off. We told the office the next morning and was told they’d check it out. We came back later that night and the a/c was no better, so we had a hot night. The next morning we again go to the office, was told the owner would check it when he came back. We checked in upon our return and was told there was a cancellation, so they moved us to the room next door. The a/c was like heaven, but the vanity light wouldn’t work. The next morning we let them know, which they did fix. We were told that the current owner recently purchased the property 3 months ago, and the plan is that they will be closing for the season and remodeling the inn over the winter. I can cut them some slack for that reason, but having to bag ur own trash and place your dirty linens outside the door on a chair, and they would replace them. Our room was not cleaned or beds made the whole time we were there. I would hope that these issues are corrected by next season.

This review is for Room 124, which is separate from the rest of the motel, to the left of and on the backside of the office. It has its own driveway, and entrance, with a nice winding brick sidewalk and steps, flanked with palm leaves (I think they were palms), and 2 chairs on the porch. It is a large single room, with a closet (metal clothing bar with hangers, iron/ironing board) and bathroom (vanity sink with ample storage, lighted mirror, hair dryer, toilet, roomy shower stall). The A/C worked well. There is a desk with 2 chairs, mini-fridge, microwave oven, jacuzzi surrounded by mirrored panels (being the unsophisticated guy that I am, I couldn't figure out how to operate), a fairly large flat-screen TV housed in a cabinet (with drawers), 2 end-tables (with drawers) topped with lamps, and a king-size bed. Yes, it is dated; yes, there are some dents, cracks, and scratches; but it was very clean and smelled nice. The room has a good feel, and it was quiet. It is located on the main drag, leading to the bridge off the island, and going to Assateague Island, where the beach is. It is also close to the downtown area, where the shops are. It is next door to the coffee shop, and as soon as I stepped out of the front door, I could small coffee. The motel gives you free vouchers to get a free coffee/danish. I've stayed in quite a few motels, in the past 30 years, and this particular room was the best overall experience I've ever had.

Check in was fine and staff pleasant. Parking to our room was limited and inconvenient. The room looked pleasant enough upon entering. This place is older and there was a note stating it has new owners and under renovation. So that explained some of the imperfections found in the room. However, the bathroom tub was filthy and could not have been cleaned prior to our stay. The tub faucet dripped and could not be shut off. There were long dark hairs on the floor and soap residue at the sink where a bar of soap previously would have sat. The dust ruffle on the bed showed a yellow unappealing stain. When my husband told a worker about the dirty tub she just shrugged her shoulders.

This was a well located, inexpensive motel but the room was definitely grim. Dated, grungy, smelled like urine and overpoweringly of something strong trying to cover the other smells. But the staff were lovely and the grounds were nice. It was an affordable way to spend the night in Chincoteague.

New ownership has improved the vibe in this older, no-frills property. I have stayed here previously and was pleasantly surprised to find it fresher, brighter and cleaner, and I was told future enhancements are planned. The staff and owner are friendly and helpful. Location is great, on one of the main roads on the island.
