Overall a good choice for Santo Domingo, but...

I have been visiting Santo Domingo regularly for the past 25 years. Overall, despite some customer-service issues noted below, the Embassy Suites remains one of the better hotels in Santo Domingo. The rooms are very large, spotlessly clean, and well furnished.

There are two big problems, one of which is fixable and one of which is not. The unfixable problem is that the walls of the rooms seem like they are paper thin. Noise from the hallway, from outside, and even from water running in an adjacent room easily penetrate the rooms. If noise distracts you, do not count on an uninterrupted night's sleep. The fixable problem is the lack of a strong customer-service orientation in areas that make the difference between a great hotel and one that is only so-so. For example, when I checked in a computer glitch made it impossible for the front desk to give me a key. Rather than bringing the key to my room, as I would have expected in any reasonably well-run hotel, I had to return to the front desk several hours later to request it. The service in the breakfast and lobby bar/restaurant is indifferent at best: always very polite but also totally inattentive. To be clear, I fault the hotel's management, not its employees, for failing to build a client-service culture that I have always experienced in most other comparable hotels in Santo Domingo. Bottom line: If might stay at the Embassy Suites again, but my expectations will be much lower.

NO VUELVO A ESTE HOTEL NUNCA

Por lo general no dejo malas opiniones sobre los hoteles, pero esto debo decirlo. Por el precio que cobran por noche debería ser mejor. La poca atención al cliente, el hecho del parqueo es terrible, no tiene valet parking para recibir a los huéspedes y ni tienen la cortesía de recibirlos para no agarrar el tránsito tan pesado en incomodo. El parqueo siempre estaba lleno, tenia que bajar al P-2 para parquear luego subir con maletas. El desayuno es horrible, de mala calidad y el sabor, Por supuesto , malo. Los empleados de la recepción tiene un trato muy “tirado” con el cliente, no tiene la formalidad y no miran a la cara al cliente. En fin, la peor experiencia que he tenido en hoteles de Santo Domingo.

The staff are so unfriendly that it's breaks all the beauty the hotel has

The Hotel is very beautiful. The room are clean good sheets very nice. Very nice location and the food was nice.

The poor part was the Staff. They could be a little more friendly. They did not even say to us welcome. One of the guys where busy saying to the other staff that why are you search for other room give her what ever. Because the guy was try to accommodate us to room next to our friend who was also traveling with us. He thought I could not understand him but I did. We had to leave the hotel very early in the morning the man at the front desk was very unfriendly he did not even say good morning. So for such a nice hotel the staff could really be more friend. Also there was no towels at the pool. We asked and they answered very rude that we have to Waite. the kids where al wet we had to Waite for about 30 minutes.

The property, staff, room was all great, top notch. The food was excellent and breakfast also.

What I didn’t like was the location and traffic all around this area. For it being the first time I have been there it took me almost 20 mins just to get into the hotel with the traffic and some streets being a one way. I had to go around several times just to actually get into the hotel. After the first time, everything was much faster even though the traffic was very busy it was not quite like the first night

There's no umbrellas in the pool area, and there's no place within the hotel to have a drink or at least hang out after 11 pm.

very nice hotel in a good location. it met our expectation as any embassy suites hotel would. we enjoyed the nice view of santo domingo and the kids like the sleeper sofa in living room. food trucks located in walking distance of hotel.

really good apart from the probable theft of belongings

very clean, very comfortable, absolutely loved the roof top pool, the breakfast was amazing.

sadly it’s very probable that the cleaner stole a pair of nike Air Force Ones from our room - the last time we saw them was when we arrived at the hotel - we checked the room thoroughly before we left to make sure we had everything but unless someone found them after we left they have probably been stolen. I tried to report this via the hotels website but there wasn’t an option to do it.
