The tours here are amazing!! We booked all our tours with the manager, and think we had the best ones. It was very easy, with pick up and drop off at the hotel, great tour guides. We did the Corcovado national park tour, and the Cano island catamaran tour - definitely do these! We ate breakfast and dinner here every day, and it was great! Good options, with delicious food and prepared with love. Adorable dogs to play with while you're there. It's within walking distance to the beach, and driving distance to the town. Simple room and bathroom but a great price if that's what you're looking for.

Unfortunately our room had a lot of mosquitos every day. I think a mosquito net on the bed would come in handy here.

Wow - what an amazing spot! The staff were so friendly and warm, the garden was beautiful, room was very clean and you're moments away from their beach. Perfect to watch the sunset. They organise tours + pick up from the property. We particularly loved the snorkelling!

This is a very quaint hotel with attached restaurant just outside of Drake Bay (emphasis on outside- a taxi is $12 to town or you could drive your own vehicle about 5-10 min). The food at the restaurant is delicious, the owners and staff and friendly, and the rooms are comfortable. They can arrange a variety of tours, including overnights in the park (you need to pre-book). We did a snorkeling trip to Caño Island and were very happy! FYI you get a discount if paying for excursions in cash because of card fees.

Only small issue was that our bedding kept coming off the mattress, maybe it was too small but it was annoying. No major complaints though!

This is a no frills, budget place that is quite far removed from the action in Drake bay. It would take 45 minutes walking along a very dusty road to get to town, so we chose taxi transport every time. However, it had tons of character, was clean and quiet, felt very safe, and had interesting and friendly guests. The “private” beach was lovely. Our room had a refrigerator (but there was a communal one nearby), air conditioning and a noisy ceiling fan. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Food was good but not especially inexpensive.

The ceiling fan could have been quieter and it would be nice to have hot water during the day not just at night. Small complaints. What you don’t pay for in the room charge, you will make up for in taxis, food, and tours.

We stayed 3 nights in Casa Gitana and everything was perfect. All the staff is very friendly and the room is clean and comfortable. The owner Jonatha arranged for us the tours in Corcovado Park Sirena Station (you must book this in advance) and Snorkel in Isla del Cano. I recommend both of them. You can also have the breakfast here so they will prepare it early before your tour.

Fantastic atmosphere at Gitana. We loved our time here and could happily have stayed for longer. We made the most of the private beach, chilled in the garden, and the food at the restaurant was delicious (and we loved spending time with the owners' dogs!). Being able to access tours from the hotel made day trips out seamless as well as the help we received in getting to and from Drake Bay via the boat taxi! We hope to have a chance to come back in the future!

During our stay, we enjoyed the proximity to the beautiful Gitana Beach. We also loved getting to know the owners and staff of Hotel Gitana - they truly made our stay spectacular. The restaurant which is part of the hotel is also very good - we ate there almost everyday. the property itself is only about a 30 minute stroll to the downtown Drake Bay Area and the walk is very enjoyable and beautiful. The property is also very beautiful and you’ll see Tucans and Macaws flying right over head. The tours offered by the hotel are also highly recommended and we loved the Tapir Tour, snorkeling and horse back riding through the jungle.

We liked everything!

Staff were fab, helpful and welcoming. Good restaurant with tasty food. Grateful to have swapped to a room with aircon. Easy to book tours, very smooth. Very short walk to the beach. Good base to see the national park. Loved the dogs and cat :-)

A bit of a walk to the main town, but manageable with minimal fitness or just book a taxi. Ignore the word “hostel” in the description, it really isn’t!

Run by amazing people - so friendly with two attention-seeking (in a good way!) dogs. Food, excellent. Location out of town and within minutes walk to the beach - amazing. Room - spacious and comfortable. Huge shower area. Tours easily arranged and transfers sorted with no stress whatsoever. I did the Corcovado tour from Sirena Station and snorkelling at Cano Island. There's so much more on offer. Extended my original stay by 1 night.

Very simple hotel but okay. We didn’t love it here but we liked it. Depends on what you’re looking for. The food was a little pricy but good. Beach was nice and we were almost alone there. It’s really relaxed there and quiet.

The beds weren’t really comfortable and the rooms get really, really hot even when it’s not hot outside. No warm water in the shower. Nothing to put your stuff in really at least in our room.

We spent a lovely stay at Casa Gitana ! The place and its wonderful staff made us feel like home. They were all adorable ❤️ The food was great - from typical dishes & amazing deserts, to powerful milkshakes and delicious cocktails.

The location was amazing, exceptional, great sea and birds views. The staff is quite charmy, helpful and welcoming . At the same time, you can book with them different activities in small groups which are really worthy. I truly recommend this hotel, if I can, I'd like to come back to this paradise one day :)

The breakfast was good. There is a small private beach next to the hotel that was nice.

The room was really hot with no AC (we went to a couple of places without AC and it was not a problem but here it was really uncomfortable). The owners seemed to only care that we will buy a tour through them and seemed really angry when we chose another company, and were not very accommodating. bed was uncomfortable with bad sheets that got of the bed all the time, so we did not get good night sleep. The location is very far from city center.

Casa Gitana is set in an incredible location next to a pretty much deserted beach and abundant wildlife. Every morning we saw scarlet macaws and Toucans. Both Edith and Jonattan were exceptionally warm and welcoming. They are also both incredible chefs. The food was better here than nearly anywhere else we experienced in Costa Rica. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails were all outstanding. The tours were extremely well organised and as a family we always felt safe and in good hands. I would recommend the family cabin highly which has incredible views and privacy. Such an unspoilt and memorable and special place that we very much hope to come back to.

Don’t expect resort style luxury. It’s simple but this is what makes it so special.

The hosts are the kindest, nicest, most helpful people. The breakfasts and meals at the restaurant are worthy of Michelin Five stars, the best in Costa Rica. The room was extremely comfortable and exceptionally clean. The location is astoundingly beautiful with a gorgeous private beach across the road. All tours and transportation were expertly handled. I highly recommend this hotel!

A wonderful hotel in nature. Jonathan and his staff looked after us really well, arranging tours and transportation for us when we needed it. Would recommend and definitely stay again.

very nice owners!!! one of the first families in drake bay. the room and shower were super clean. good breakfast included in the price. we also had a dinner there -great price and very tasty. the property has its own privet beach - which is just amazing. the owner let us park our car for free while staying the night in Corcovado .

It’s a pretty little place to stay and family owned, nice and clean, and the dogs are lovely to have around. Near a private beach which was beautiful and great for sunset. Breakfast is good.

A couple of times we arrived back at the property after 7pm and the gate was already locked shut, so we had to contact the owner to be let in, while waiting in the rain. Some staff weren’t as friendly as they could have been, and it was noisy at times as our bathroom backed onto a shared bathroom. One morning the cleaner walked straight into our room before 8am without knocking. Very basic rooms, with little character or bedside lamps etc.

Helpful staff and good location with boat pickup just in front at the beach, 3km from town. Good organisation of taxi pickups. Breakfast was included, so price was good overall.

Pictures didn’t fully match the actual place. A mosquito net over the bed would have been helpful.

Quality of the bed.

Edwina and Jonathan the owners of the hotel were super sweet and very helpful. They really went out of their way to make sure you had a good stay. The hotel was charming and really good value. .. and we made some very interesting other guest. . Great breakfast in the morning/ in the restaurant was really good value and delicious. I would definitely go back.
