Mo Snell's Coffee Farm House

About this house rental

Located in Holualoa, this lovely house for $385 per night is a great choice for your next trip. STRV 19-350348 NUC-19-0481 Mo Snell's Kona Coffee Farm is located on the historic Mamalahoa Highway on the Kona Coffee Belt. The half-acre coffee orchard of two hundred trees surrounds two beautiful custom designed and built structures: the one bedroom farm house and a studio. The studio is not available for rent. The farm is 1200 feet above sea-level on the slopes of Hualalai Volcano (dormant) with breath-taking views of Kona and the vast Pacific Ocean. The higher elevation is cooler than beach side and is welcome after a day in the sun and surf. The farm is above the hustle and bustle of Kona town. The farm house has a spacious covered lanai and sliding teak/ glass doors between the living room and lanai that open completely onto the lanai with unobstructed 180 degree views of the Pacific Ocean. A 4 foot deep salt water lap pool adjoins the lanai. It’s 30 ft long and is not heated. On cloudy days the water will be cool. The property is terraced with lava rock, landscaped with a variety of tropical plants and very private. The home was designed by renown Seattle architect, Chris Snell. The architecture mimics traditional Hawaiian hale (homes) and Japanese farm houses. The building materials are unique to the Kona-area. He incorporated lava rock walls, hand milled Ohia trees for framing and paneling. The home is constructed by the best carpenters and craftsmen on island. The farm house is built of hand milled Ohia wood. The slider doors are teak. The kitchen cabinets are bamboo with black granite counters. The roof is galvanized metal and exposed on the interior of the home. The roof replicates the corrugated tin roofs seen on old coffee shacks. The home is exquisite in every detail. The bed room looks over the lap pool into the coffee orchard. There is a ceiling fan. The large west facing window/wall looks out over the pool and vista. The farm is completely organic: no pesticides, nor herbicides are used. It is surrounded by jungle plants and therefore ants can hatch suddenly. We eradicate them organically upon notice . The property is maintained by a gardener and pool services two days per month. The property is only a ten minute drive down the mountain to Kona Town for shopping, and beautiful white sand beaches for swimming and snorkeling. Holualoa is a quaint town located 3 miles south of the farm. The town of Holualoa is an artist-community and home to numerous art galleries. Mamalahoa Highway is a historic road, the High Road, and runs through the heart of Kona Coffee Belt with many fascinating towns, galleries, farms and historical sites. Looking for Kona up-country experience, then my farm is for you. This is an agricultural area. surrounded by jungle. You will hear frogs, chickens, roosters, an occasional wild hog, and tropical birds. The architecture is open and designed to blend outdoors and indoors. If you are sensitive sleeper, consider another property. Bring ear plugs. And if you are a light sleeper, consider another location. The house is screened in above the sliding windows for a very open experience. A studio cottage is also located on the property. It's not for rent. I stay in the cottage from time to time. Absolutely loved the open living spaces with nature. The Jungle noises were wonderful (it is loud at night). The property is beautiful. We didn’t use the pool much at all as it fairly chilly. We usually got sun in the mornings until around lunch then mostly cloudy which was fine as it was a perfect temp but not for swimming. We would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful, private property with amazing views and beautiful home. Perfect spot to visit all areas on the Big Island. The pictures online are accurate, but do not capture the true beauty of this property.

Truly a treat to stay at this amazing property! This property will relax you from its simplicity, the manicured grounds, the priceless view to the late night symphony of the jungle. I’ve been coming to Kona since ‘95, and this truly is a special place. We look forward to return to this property!

This is one of the most perfect domestic environments I have ever had the privilge to be in. A beautiful private stage on which to perform a vacation and an impeccable temple to reflect on it. I initially felt cared for by the property, which has been crafted with love, skill and precision, but by week’s end I felt the urge to care for it so that others could share my exprience.

What a magical place, we did not want to leave. Motter’s home was 10 times better in person, the sunsets are stunning. There’s a beautiful view everywhere you look. She was also incredibly sweet and flexible. I would recommend this place 100%, full kitchen, close to town, and close to the airport. Thank you so much for having us.

I can’t recommend this property enough! The architecture, the lovely gardens and coffee orchard and the privacy far exceeded our expectations. It was clean, comfortable and a quick 10-15 mins to Kona. We arrived the day after a tropical storm and Mo was kind enough to find out if there was any damage to the island that could impact our stay. We were so pleased with Mo’s property that we already scheduled a return trip! Mahalo Mo!
