Mo Snell's Coffee Farm House
Mo Snell's Coffee Farm House
About this house rental
Located in Holualoa, this lovely house for $385 per night is a great choice for your next trip. STRV 19-350348 NUC-19-0481 Mo Snell's Kona Coffee Farm is located on the historic Mamalahoa Highway on the Kona Coffee Belt. The half-acre coffee orchard of two hundred trees surrounds two beautiful custom designed and built structures: the one bedroom farm house and a studio. The studio is not available for rent. The farm is 1200 feet above sea-level on the slopes of Hualalai Volcano (dormant) with breath-taking views of Kona and the vast Pacific Ocean. The higher elevation is cooler than beach side and is welcome after a day in the sun and surf. The farm is above the hustle and bustle of Kona town. The farm house has a spacious covered lanai and sliding teak/ glass doors between the living room and lanai that open completely onto the lanai with unobstructed 180 degree views of the Pacific Ocean. A 4 foot deep salt water lap pool adjoins the lanai. It’s 30 ft long and is not heated. On cloudy days the water will be cool. The property is terraced with lava rock, landscaped with a variety of tropical plants and very private. The home was designed by renown Seattle architect, Chris Snell. The architecture mimics traditional Hawaiian hale (homes) and Japanese farm houses. The building materials are unique to the Kona-area. He incorporated lava rock walls, hand milled Ohia trees for framing and paneling. The home is constructed by the best carpenters and craftsmen on island. The farm house is built of hand milled Ohia wood. The slider doors are teak. The kitchen cabinets are bamboo with black granite counters. The roof is galvanized metal and exposed on the interior of the home. The roof replicates the corrugated tin roofs seen on old coffee shacks. The home is exquisite in every detail. The bed room looks over the lap pool into the coffee orchard. There is a ceiling fan. The large west facing window/wall looks out over the pool and vista. The farm is completely organic: no pesticides, nor herbicides are used. It is surrounded by jungle plants and therefore ants can hatch suddenly. We eradicate them organically upon notice . The property is maintained by a gardener and pool services two days per month. The property is only a ten minute drive down the mountain to Kona Town for shopping, and beautiful white sand beaches for swimming and snorkeling. Holualoa is a quaint town located 3 miles south of the farm. The town of Holualoa is an artist-community and home to numerous art galleries. Mamalahoa Highway is a historic road, the High Road, and runs through the heart of Kona Coffee Belt with many fascinating towns, galleries, farms and historical sites. Looking for Kona up-country experience, then my farm is for you. This is an agricultural area. surrounded by jungle. You will hear frogs, chickens, roosters, an occasional wild hog, and tropical birds. The architecture is open and designed to blend outdoors and indoors. If you are sensitive sleeper, consider another property. Bring ear plugs. And if you are a light sleeper, consider another location. The house is screened in above the sliding windows for a very open experience. A studio cottage is also located on the property. It's not for rent. I stay in the cottage from time to time. Beware: I do not advertise on Craig's List. Someone has copied my VRBO posting and listed it on Craig's list-Not legitimate. Thank you Keywords: House

It’s even better than the photos!

Absolutely loved the open living spaces with nature. The Jungle noises were wonderful (it is loud at night). The property is beautiful. We didn’t use the pool much at all as it fairly chilly. We usually got sun in the mornings until around lunch then mostly cloudy which was fine as it was a perfect temp but not for swimming.
We would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful, private property with amazing views and beautiful home. Perfect spot to visit all areas on the Big Island. The pictures online are accurate, but do not capture the true beauty of this property.

Truly a treat to stay at this amazing property! This property will relax you from its simplicity, the manicured grounds, the priceless view to the late night symphony of the jungle. I’ve been coming to Kona since ‘95, and this truly is a special place. We look forward to return to this property!

This is one of the most perfect domestic environments I have ever had the privilge to be in. A beautiful private stage on which to perform a vacation and an impeccable temple to reflect on it. I initially felt cared for by the property, which has been crafted with love, skill and precision, but by week’s end I felt the urge to care for it so that others could share my exprience.

The coffee farm is magical! I would give it a million stars if I could. I am already looking to book another stay before then end of 2023. Cannot wait to stay again!

What a magical place, we did not want to leave. Motter’s home was 10 times better in person, the sunsets are stunning. There’s a beautiful view everywhere you look. She was also incredibly sweet and flexible. I would recommend this place 100%, full kitchen, close to town, and close to the airport. Thank you so much for having us.

I can’t recommend this property enough! The architecture, the lovely gardens and coffee orchard and the privacy far exceeded our expectations.
It was clean, comfortable and a quick 10-15 mins to Kona. We arrived the day after a tropical storm and Mo was kind enough to find out if there was any damage to the island that could impact our stay.
We were so pleased with Mo’s property that we already scheduled a return trip!

The design of the home makes it feel that you're outside in nature from every room. It's not only beautiful on the inside, but the grounds are amazing as well. We would absolutely choose to stay at Mo's farm house if we ever make it back to the big island.

This place was incredible. Everything was as advertised, check in / out was super easy. The location was awesome, far enough away to be an escape but easy assess to everything that we wanted to do on the island. 10/10. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The pictures don't do the property justice. It is a stunning property--extremely private and very comfortable. The views are just unmatched. We really loved the property, and the property owner made directions and check-in a breeze. Mo is very forthcoming about night noise, and I do recommend earplugs for sleeping. The frogs at night are not a nuisance, but the nearby roosters that are being raised by a neighbor crow almost constantly starting very early.

This is a beautiful home in a setting away from the hustle of everyday life. A spectacular view and a perfectly appointed home with all the amenities. Please do bring good earplugs as the resident roosters begin very early in the day.
We needed to rest and relax on our vacation and this property provided that. Highly recommend for those seeking privacy and relaxation.

My wife and I booked three nights at this property almost a year ago, and the wait was worth it. Our only regret was not booking a whole week here. Mo Snell's coffee farm house exceeded all our expectations and is so warm, inviting, and peaceful that you'll want to forgo the rest of the island and just stay in all day long. The owner and her husband designed and built this place with the help of their friends, and you can feel the care and love that went into its construction in every detail. We feel like a couple of lucky ducks to have spent any time here, we hope someday soon we can return. Thank you Mo Snell for sharing your private paradise with us!

What a wonderful property! The house is quite unique, I love the huge doors you can open the entire house up. The brightness is wonderful. No shades on windows so make sure to bring your sleeping mask for the morning. Definitely wild chickens and roosters, but it's easy to ignore after your first day. My husband made makeshift ear plugs and that worked well for him. Oh and bug spray!!!!! We were almost in panic mode before we found a can on top of the refrigerator. We were ready to go out and grab our own if we didn't find any! So that's def needed. I can't find anything negative to bring up at all. Even met the gardeners and they were lovely as well. Such a relaxing time. Aloha spirit lives strong here. It's definitely marked as a favorite and will be back.

The Farm House was amazing!! The listing and pictures do not do this house justice. It was a great place to start a vacation and relax. The grounds are beautiful and the house is amazing and one of a kind. The daily and nightly sounds are relaxing and create a serene environment. Directions to the house were very easy to follow and host ensured we had made it and everything we needed. It was over casted days during our stay, which did cause the pool to be very chilly, but helped cool you off and wake you up after a busy day. The views and sounds are already missed, and we look forward to visiting the farm house in the future. Hard to beat that shower view!!!! Thank you.

Loved the place, perfect for those who need that quite place to just relax and take away the normal day to day grind. Close enough to town to get ever thing you need. Nice an cool, since it is up high in altitude, with a great view.

The home is an ohmage to traditional Hawiian architecture and is beautifully complemented with wonderful gardens. Truly a Hawaiian experience and a tropical paradise. Hope to return annually. There are no words that can express our feeling of harmony with nature and the way the house invites one to resonate with the environment.

My wife and I stayed at this property for our 10 year anniversary. From the moment we arrived we knew that we had made a fantastic choice! This property is absolutely stunning. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the big island looking for a more secluded place to stay!

Mo Snells farmhouse was the BEST VRBO I have ever booked. The home details, the yard, and the view is something my wife and I will talk about for years to come. We knew from the listing that it would be a cool stay but it was much more than that. It felt like a home away from home. Thanks Mo!

We had a relaxing time at the coffee farm. The pool was cool but refreshing after being out and about during the day. I enjoyed reading about the journey when selecting the property and building the houses. The landscaping was beautiful and the sunset views spectacular.

This is a very special property! If you are really looking to get away from it all (including tourists), this is the place. The architecture, grounds are beautiful and invite a sense of calm. We loved it so much during the times we were out and about during our stay, we longed to get back to the property and just enjoy this amazing place. We will be back for sure!

Beautiful property, views to die for. Clean, well kept. The sounds of the jungle at night didn't bother us in the slightest, but if you're a light sleeper listen to the owner and bring headphones.

I talk a lot, and I was speechless when we pulled into this property. The directions Mo provided us were detailed and helped us find the place with ease. This is an oasis - private, serene, and 10 minutes away from everything in Kona. It needed neither A/C or heat in June, and the frogs and bugs were not a bother at all for our sleep. It’s like living in a “peaceful sounds to sleep to” machine. The Roosters were loud, yes. Falling asleep with earplugs made this absolutely a non issue and we both slept extremely well all nights we were there. The bugs were there at night, but if you are mindful of closing the doors when you start to see them you will be alright. We hired a private chef to come cook us a meal during sunset and it was the most dreamy vacation we have every been on. Thank you, Mo, for sharing this incredible property with us all. I almost feel like I should keep all this to myself so I don’t let the cat out of the bag on how incredible this place is.

A truly one of a kind experience. Beautiful property, thoughtfully constructed with a clear design that lends itself to offering a one of a kind experience you shouldn’t pass up if given the chance.
I laughed at the review of someone complaining about the background noise before arriving. Once you hear the frogs and birds singing to you at night you’ll understand the sentiment of that review more (but the locals singing me to sleep was still music to my ears). PS they also provide so much above and beyond what’s expected, reef-safe sunscreen, condiments, tea, and yes even ear plugs if you want.) Thanks for the great stay!

Couldn't have asked for anything better. This place is a gem. It was so clean with a perfect location and unbeatable views. The book there detailing how the house was built and the intricacies was awesome and made the stay that much cooler. Easy access to kona. Noisy mornings due to wildlife, but not a deterrent at all. We have every intention of staying here again when in Kona!
