Romantic Oceanfront Home with Dramatic Sea View, Hot Tub and EV Charger
About this house rental
Located in Sonoma County, this attractive house for $395 per night is a fantastic option for your next vacation. Phoenix Nest, our romantic and spectacular oceanfront vacation home, is nestled on two glorious acres of forest right on the ocean. The 2500 square foot, newly remodeled home is bright and airy and includes a 44-foot living room with windows throughout overlooking the ocean. The two master bedroom suites also have unsurpassed, sweeping views of the ocean. The house has great privacy. You can hear the waves crash and see the osprey and gulls fly by as the low tide unveils the rocks and sandy beach. Watch gorgeous sunsets from the deck or hot tub. From the hot tub, enjoy watching sea lions surfing or resting on the rocks on the Havens Neck peninsula. We often see gray and humpback whales and recently blue and killer whales spouting and occasionally breaching out of the ocean. The bluff is like a garden, covered with plants and natural wildflowers. Known as the 'banana belt,' nearby rivers provide a more fog-free and temperate climate than other coastal areas. Please No Children, Pets Or Smoking Allowed Unparalleled Beauty: Dear Pat, We were greeted by deer and the gentle barking 'hellos' of the sea lions. The house is so comfortable--more space than we imagined and the light so wonderful.. The view rates in our top three--following the Grand Canyon, Positano, Italy and tied with Villa Cinciano in Tuscany. As we say farewell to the deer and sea lions, we'll promise to return and will always remember the beauty by day and the peaceful blanket of the Milky Way by night. Thank you for sharing your spectacular home with us. Bob and Helene Indianapolis

Our host Pat was amazing. She sent us a list of activities nearby and was very responsive. She also treated us to a bottle of sparkling wine for our stay. The location is terrific, with a breathtaking view. There are a lot of activities nearby. The towns are small, quaint and very relaxing and the locals were so friendly. We enjoyed the deck and hot tub, both were perfect for relaxing or taking in the sunset. Highly recommend, would definitely stay again!

We loved it. Beautifully designed and decorated. Spectacular location. We would have liked staying much longer to delay our return to the "real world".
We look forward to returning again and again.
Pat, thank you so much for sharing your home with us.

What more can be said that other reviewers haven’t already raved about? Simply put, this place is a heaven like no other! For me, had been at least 4 years without a true vacation and staying here for a few nights was something we chose to start off a longer trip in hopes of decompressing first. Within an hour of arriving, we saw whales and seals and sat on the comfy couch just staring out the window at the closest, most unobstructed, and “personal” view of the Pacific Coast we could never have imagined possible. I was instantly melted into the relaxation I had been craving for years! We got lucky to experience what seemed like every type of weather to be able to experience the changes it brought to the views. When it was cold and rainy, we were snug and warm in the house! The kitchen was perfectly equipped to be able to make dinner “at home” which only added to our relaxation. One day, we made it to the north beach of the private land preserve and were stunned to be able to witness so much unspoiled nature-in-action right before our eyes.
The house was very clean and well kept and had one of everything that you’ll need for some decompression time of your own. You will never want to leave!

We had a terrific anniversary at this home and everything was perfect and the views were amazing. The home is very close to numerous beaches with access to a private beach as well. A outdoor deck, perfect for reading (the owners have a wonderful collection of books) and lounging. And a very thoughtful host. The hot tub was great and the beds were very comfortable. I would say "amazing" best describes our stay.

Spacious, comfortable, bright, cheerful super clean home. Nice bed. Large kitchen. Awesome location on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Clean, functioning hot tub. Fabulous views. Incredible reading library. Very relaxing. We had a wonderful time. 5 stars all around.

This property is amazing! It was perfect for my dad and I. We had seperate areas to enjoy the million dollar views! The beds were super compfy. We loved this home and are already talking of a repeat trip next year! Pat was so awesome to work with!

We loved our stay at Phoenix Nest! Absolutely loved that we could hear the waves and sea lions from the house. We couldn’t be peeled away from either the deck, the couch in front of the large SW facing windows or the hot tub. It was great to get some true rest and relaxation from the fast paced life we live at home.

Staying at Pat’s home was perfect for my mom, sister and I. My mom is 86 and I needed to find a place with bedroom and living areas on one level and had a view. It exceeded my expectations.
My mom only had to sit by the window or go on the deck to take in the breathtaking beauty.
My sister and I could walk to Haven’s Neck to get a closer look at the seals. The home includes a key to access this private sanctuary.
When you are in this home you feel like you are on top of the ocean. It is unforgettable.

Truly wonderful views and nice house. Sunsets in the hot tub are amazing. Downstairs bathroom could use updating but all else is well. Very comfortable beds.

Unparalleled surroundings and a comfortable home filled with unique art and furnishings. We love relaxing at the house, enjoying the hot tub and exploring the beautiful Gualala area. Hikes on the trails, picnics on the beach and wine and sunsets on the deck. Wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing Phoenix Nest.

The pictures don’t do it justice. Pat/Sid’s home is beautiful. We didn’t need for anything and loved it! So clean, beautifully appointed, multiple/great sitting areas to watch sea lions (the binoculars were great!), watch/listen to the waters, and daily naps. A perfect vacay for us to celebrate our retirement/anniv/bdays. At the Sat farmers market, we had Gabriel’s delicious tacos Al pastor and got some homemade Chinese chili oil. (To die for!) The bakery and markets had everything we needed, including cooking dinners, building a nightly fire in the great room and enjoying the hot tub while watching the sunsets. (Anchor bay for Thai takeout, tacos from Seafood shack) Day trip to the Point Arena lighthouse and Mendocino (Trillium for lunch, Meyer Family Cellar tasting room-you will get taken good care of by Casey) Pat was east to reach, if needed. we hope to be back soon! Thank you!

We enjoyed our stay at this wonderful home. The beds were very comfortable. The views were fantastic and the host was very responsive. The cacti garden was also beautiful. We look forward to returning.

Spent a wonderful week here. Such a special location and access included with this listing. House was well stocked with anything you may need! Wonderful communication with the owner as well. This was our second time staying “on the coast” In the point arena area and this house made it even more special.

We loved our stay at Havens Nest. The views were spectacular and we enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the flocks of birds soar by and peering at the elephant seals' antics across the bay. We appreciated that the kitchen was well-appointed. We had everything we needed to prepare most of our meals there. And the bedding and mattress was super comfortable. We found many gorgeous hiking trails nearby. Our favorite was Salt Point bluff trail about 45 minute drive south where we saw an explosion of wildflowers. We will return.

Simply amazing location! I was there with a good friend and both of us needed to have some getaway time. Having two bedrooms meant we also had our privacy. Beds are very comfortable. The description is accurate and truthful. The views from every room are spectacular! Pat is a great hostess and always responded to my questions within minutes.
This would be a great place for a romantic getaway or for two couples. Don't miss driving up the coast to Mendocino (eat at Trillium Cafe!), but remember to fill up with gas before... I was nearly on empty and the only gas station there charged almost $10/gallon!
Another great thing to do is to take CA128 to the Anderson Valley for great wine tasting... Navarro and Hush wineries are very good.
For nearby eating, we tried and loved, the Vue Coastal Kitchen.

Phoenix nest was everything we hoped for. The views from every single room were magnificent - from the view of ocean waves crashing on the peninsula from the master bedroom and sunset views from the living room to the gorgeous landscape and forest view from the kitchen. We had a special trip for just the two of us but this would be a great spot for two couples to call home for a few days. The setup allows for views and privacy from both bedrooms and plenty of room to hang out together in the living room or catch the sunset on the deck. The house was perfectly clean and as described. We had all the linens, towels, pillows, blankets we needed and the kitchen was stocked for cooking. Pat was available and communicative and had some wonderful recommendations for other beaches as well as for a nice dinner just a few minutes down the coast.
We particularly enjoyed our walk down to the preserve and had the pleasure of viewing sea lions (from afar, thanks for the binoculars!) on the north beach. We also met the sheep! It was such a treat to experience that beautiful place.
We hope to return again. The only thing we will change is to ensure we get to stay longer next time!

My sister and I had a wonderful time at Phoenix Nest! The sound of the waves could be heard inside as well as outside the house the whole time — it washes the tension right out of your body! The views were unbelievable. The owner was very responsive. The house was equipped with everything we needed, including binoculars at every window location in the house so we could see the harbor seals and the various birds which soared past the house during the day! This was the highlight of our 3-week road trip so far. We should have stayed a whole week!

Our visit was fantastic. The property is private, but super close to town. Watching the sunset each night was a special treat. Great kitchen and internet- so we were set!

The views were amazing! Nice place to have a quiet retreat. The town was charming and had everything we needed.

Our first visit to Phoenix Nest and this is the beginning of many more. We have been coming to the Mendocino area for over 20 years and have never stayed in Gualala. We loved it…everything is so low key and relaxing. The house is warm and welcoming and really provides an atmosphere for real rejuvenation. The location is amazing. You feel like you are on a boat treehouse and the ocean is right there. The sound of the waves provides a soothing background for reading, sleeping or relaxing with a nice glass of wine. The house is super clean and has everything you need to feel at home. The bonus is that the hosts, Pat and Sid, are very responsive and really interested in making sure your stay is everything you want it to be. We can’t wait to come back!

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had high expectations going in, given the reviews, and the experience even exceeded those expectations. We spent so much time staring out into the ocean from the couch and hot tub, mystified by the view. We also loved taking small trips into Gualala for coffee & food and coming back to this cozy home. The home is well decorated and incredibly spacious. I'm already thinking about the next time I can come back.
On top of all this, Pat is an exceptional host. Pat answered all my questions in a timely manner and was so kind and friendly throughout. This was a 10/10 stay.
Thank you Pat for opening up your home to VRBO so we could experience the magic of the Gualala coast.

Incredible location on the ocean! We could hear the waves crashing all day and night, and even the occasional seal barking. Can't be beat for the view.
The beds were super comfortable and the house was adequately appointed with everything we needed. The indoor spaces provided multiple options for relaxing, reading, enjoying the view, watching TV, etc.
The hot tub was wonderful and provided an impressive view of the ocean and the stars.

We are frequent visitors to the Gualala area but this was our first stay at Phoenix Nest, and it brought the trip to an entirely new level. The view is amazing, and the house is clean, bright, comfortable, and well-stocked just as the other guests have described. The only thing that I can add to other reviews is that because the house is so very close to the water, we were able to see beautiful bioluminescent plankton glowing in the ocean on the first night of our stay. This is something I have hoped to see my whole life, and I couldn't believe that we were able to finally see this magical phenomenon while remaining comfortably indoors! A once in a lifetime experience for sure.

Phoenix Nest is a magical place on so many levels. The natural beauty of the Phoenix Nest location & surroundings easily stimulates all your senses while being totally relaxed. The layout of Phoenix Nest provides plenty of comfortable living space. The main living space on the top floor has four living zones for everyone to enjoy as a group or individually; dining, entertainment (tv), lounging in front of wood burning fireplace or sinking into the cozy sectional couch looking out over the ocean through floor to ceiling windows. Just open the door leading to the outside deck. The sound & smell of the surf fills the room with a calming sound & aroma only the ocean can provide. Four good binoculars are provided by the host to take in all the marine life & natural beauty. A person can spend the entire day on the outdoor deck and feel their day was completely fulfilled. Your sense of taste can easily be stimulated creating meals in the more than adequately equipped kitchen. The knives at Phoenix Nest are sharper than the knives you have at home. If the Gualala Supermarket, less than 6 miles from Phoenix Nest, doesn’t have what you need for making delicious meals then you’re trying to hard, relax. Steeler Nation is alive & well at Phoenix Nest. We informed Pat, Phoenix Nest host, we are Pittsburgh Steeler fans. I asked Pat if the Phoenix Nest TV provider included the NFL Network ( so we could watch Steeler football on Christmas Eve) she said she was not a sports fan and most likely did not have the NFL Network as part of her TV entertainment. Pat, went above & beyond & contacted her TV provider and negotiated a deal that provided us with the joy of watching Steeler football on Christmas Eve 2022. Thank you Pat!! Oh, did I forget to mention the pristinely clean hot tub, well use your imagination. Don’t forget to checkout Haven’s Neck private preserve. We had a fantastic time at Phoenix Nest and are confident you will too.

This property was truly amazing. We've been going to the Sonoma coast for 35+ years and this is the best view we've ever had. Total silence except for crashing waves, birds, seals. OMG the Milky Way and starts at night!! Being an early morning girl, the first light coming up was magical to behold. Saw whales in the distance (thanks Pat for the quality binoculars left all around the house!). Just blissful. And, on my birthday eve, I finally saw the elusive Green Flash after all these years!! We pretty much stayed put and BBQ'd and cooked, because really - why leave such a great view and deck?! Pat's the best and so very responsive and we didn't want for a thing. We'll be back!!

Wow! Where to begin! The pictures just do not do justice to this magical place! There are very few spots where you walk in and just know your serenity is guaranteed! The minute you walk in you’ll be drawn to the most incredible ocean views. We spent our evenings watching the sunset from the spa, and our mornings on the deck watching for sea life. There is something really special about this place, it’s serene and really has the energy which regenerates the soul. The kitchen is very well appointed, and has all the cooking supplies you’ll need to make fancy to casual meals. The wood burning stove in the great room provides plenty of warmth an ambiance, the house was very clean and comfortable. We throughly enjoyed our anniversary stay.

The Phoenix Nest was exactly what we were looking for and more for our post-wedding trip. It’s secluded enough to offer peaceful respite from the day to day, but in a great location for activities in the day (check out Gualala Arts Center while you’re there).
The owners are extremely responsive and accommodating. We can’t wait to come back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our four day stay at the Phoenix Nest.
We spent a lot of time in the hot tub, and on the deck, just soaking in the ocean sights and sounds.
The house itself is very comfortable and inviting.
This house is one of the best vacation rentals we have ever stayed in!

Wow!- I think I said wow three times upon entering Phoenix Nest. The panoramic ocean views are spectacularly breath-taking. We couldn’t tear ourselves away from this picturesque scenery while sitting on the Adirondack chairs for hours on end, reading a good book or just taking in nature’s beauty. Unpacking can wait. Although the house is perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean, there is a sense of isolation and privacy from the surrounding homes as this gem is hidden by considerable vegetation. The home is well appointed and has a midcentury retro feel. Something of the Sinatra era. One of the main highlights is the Havens Neck Peninsula. As soon as you exit your vehicle you can hear the beautiful sounds of the sea lions on the north beach. A quarter mile south of the home is a private access point to which only guests of the homeowners in the area have access to. Pat provides a key for the gated entry. This is an adventure of a lifetime you cannot miss! While hiking to this private beach we had the privilege of seeing (once extinct in the wild) a California Condor, along with several species of marine life in the tide pools lining the seaside cliffs. What a magical experience that will not be forgotten. In addition, we had the joy of watching the sky clear at night, revealing an awe-inducing view of the Milky Way. Finally, I want to praise Pat for her personal attentiveness during our stay. She was extremely prompt anytime we had a question and was a supreme host throughout our stay. Thank you Pat – you’re the best!

Location, location, location, PLUS an amazing house!!! This rental was by far and away the best place we've ever found. Floor to ceiling windows in virtually every room overlooking the ocean. Total privacy. All the amenities you might want or need. Amazing wildlife, including populations of stellar jays, hawks, vultures and pelicans flying over the ocean, and to see it all, tons of binoculars in every room.
My wife and I came here to celebrate our 5th year wedding anniversary, and we wanted to get away from city life, our jobs, and all the things we deal with daily. This was THE perfect spot for a true escape. We unplugged, walked, explored neighboring towns, stared at the ocean, played boardgames and for the first time in a long time, fully, fully recharged.
A couple of other nice things: the deck is awesome. Incredible view and we enjoyed wine and a few meals out there. And this random, but the blankets are fantastic.
Thank you, Pat, for the gorgeous house and for being so communicative throughout our stay. Oh and thank you for the welcome champagne for our anniversary! That was a very nice surprise. Can't wait to come back!

We originally rented Phoenix Nest as a place to escape the heat and probable Northern California fires. Fortunately we didn’t have fires this year, but we did loose a family member and needed a place to heal. The Pomo Indians used Havens Neck as a place to heal and Phoenix Nest was just what we needed. Pat made the experience easy, the property was clean, and just as described. Wonderful experience.

It’s hard to put into words the amazing home base The Phoenix Nest offered for us as we explored the epic Pacific Coast. Upon checkin, we were immediately captured by the breathtaking view off the well furnished deck overlooking the mighty Pacific. As we got settled in, we heard the haunting and melodic tunes of the sea lions barking through the fog. We couldn’t wait for the fog to open up and see how close we were to such a special place called Haven’s Neck which is a private beach protected by the residents in Havens Neck. Absolutely make sure to go to Haven’s Neck beach as described in the welcome packet. We walked to the gate and easily were able to use the key to let ourselves in. What a wonderful experience to have a beach on the Pacific to ourselves. A couple notable experiences for us was skydiving at NorCal Skydiving in Cloverdale. The roads to drive to NorCal from The Phoenix Nest were a white knuckle treat in themselves! The Skunk Train in Willits was also another highlight. This train is a 2 hour round trip to the summit of a mountain to visit a mighty, elderly Redwood! Another fun highlight was checking out the bluff hikes along the Coastal Highway from Fort Bragg back to Gualala. Make sure to stop in for breakfast at the bakery next to the supermarket in Gualala. The Surf Mart also has fantastic BBQ on the weekends! Upon returning to The Phoenix Nest from our many adventures, we popped a bottle of champagne left generously from our amazing hosts, Pat and Sid, and enjoyed hot tubbing to beautiful sunsets each night. You’ll also be able to enjoy a great view of the starry night sky as you relax on the lounge chairs furnished on the deck! If heaven’s not all it’s cracked up to be, take me back to The Phoenix Nest!

Beautiful seaside house both outside and inside, with many sea-related art pieces. The owners have tried to think of everything that will make one’s stay more comfortable. Lots to do in nearby towns and beaches. Wonderful!!
