About this house rental
Situated in Princeville, this attractive house for $431 per night is a great choice for your next trip. Please note that we are not reachable on all Friday nights sundown through Saturday night until sundown Pacific standard time. VRBO makes requests for bookings expire within 24 hours so it would be super helpful if you could please send requests for bookings or any questions a few hours before or after those times so I can respond to you quickly. Also, due to permit restrictions, our house is not available for rental for on-site retreats or for guest housing for off-site retreats. We are only available to groups of families and friends. Mahalo! **** Our remodeled vacation home has amazing ocean, Bali Hai and golf course views but now boasts updated modern bathrooms with Hans Grohe rain showers and fixtures plus a free-standing tub in the master bathroom, state of the art kitchen with Caesarstone counters and Kitchen Aid appliances, all new windows and doors, 8 foot tall sliders leading to the rear lanai, a covered outdoor lanai for dining, wall to wall hardwood flooring, wood patio decking, midcentury modern furnishings and an enclosed covered garage. Each room including the lanai is equipped with Big Ass fans, considered the most efficient and quietest fans on the market. *** Please bear in mind that the trade winds blow so we do not have any air conditioners in the house. If you really need air conditioners, this may not be the house for you but we enjoy the natural breezes. Hanalei, on the island of Kauai, is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. Its pristine beaches are surrounded by a stunning array of waterfalls and emerald-green cliffs. Melia Kai is a private home with a sweeping view of the cobalt blue Pacific Ocean and the cascading waterfalls of Namolokama. Located on the Princeville Makai golf course, our house offers the visitor a wonderful opportunity to do just about everything---but it is also a terrific place to do absolutely nothing! The spectacular views invite you to walk barefoot across the fairway to the edge of a 150-foot cliff (security may ask you to leave so please do not go across before 7 pm after the golfing day is over), where you look down on waves crashing onto the lava rock below. If you watch closely, you will see turtles swimming in the coves beneath you. You will find that Melia Kai offers the best of two worlds - the luxurious amenities of the Princeville resort area (security patrol, community center, shopping mall and golfing) and the exotic remoteness of Kauai's north shore. One minute you can be sipping a Mai Tai in a crisp summer outfit at the sumptuous One Hanalei Hotel and the next you can be navigating a jungle trail in your bathing suit looking for the waterfall at the head of the Kalihiwai Valley. Note: Although our home is all on one floor, please note that we have 3 steps leading up to the front door landing and there is a step down between the entryway/dining area down to the living room area. This home may not work for guests who require handicap access, guests who cannot easily go up and down the step down or guests with small children who may fall easily. We keep at least 24 hours between guests currently in order to minimize spread of Covid. Come stay the week at Melia Kai and experience paradise first hand! Great location - perfect for our family of 4. The home is well-kept, comfortable and comes packed with a ton of nice touches (backpack beach chairs, beach towels, and a number more of other amenities). Highly recommend if you’re looking to stay in the Princeville area!

We had a wonderful stay at Melia Kai. The house was beautiful, clean and well equipped. We enjoyed the easy access to walking trails and watching the albatross in the backyard. It was a wonderful place to rest from our normally hectic lives. Meg was a great host. Hope to be back again.

My husband and I stayed along with his mom and sister, my sister, and her husband. The sleeping arrangement was perfect for our group and the home and location were so stunning. The kitchen was huge and well equipped for the handful of meals we cooked there. We loved the convenience of having beach towels, boogie boards, beach chairs, etc. at the house. Such a nice walk down to watch the sunsets by the cliff and enjoying the view from the lanai. Felt super safe, and although it was a bit far to walk most places, it was a super quick drive to beaches, farmers markets, Hanalei, etc. Meg was extremely kind and flexible, and she went out of her way to help accommodate our schedule. We would highly recommend this home to anyone visiting the Princeville area. It’s an idyllic home base for your relaxation and adventures!

Very nice. All that we expected

The home and location exceeded our expectations!

The home was beautiful, very clean and convenient.
The home owners have outdoor toys and what not to play at the beach which was super appreciated.
Only issue I had, I didn’t realize the property didn’t have AC. Apparently a lot of properties don’t because of the trade winds, wasn’t aware going there.

House was just as pictured. Kitchen well equipped. Beach chairs and golf clubs a nice addition.

We loved our stay at Melia Kai! This home is in a beautiful neighborhood in the Princevillle area close to several area beaches, a couple of which, are walkable. We had the house for about a week and it comfortably accommodated our family of 5 + MIL. We would love to return someday!

Loved our stay so much. Felt like our home away from home. Backyard is steps from some of the best views in Kauai. We will recommend to friends and family and return asap. Even better than the pictures and hosts are super responsive.

We absolutely loved our stay! The home was in an excellent location with lots of activities close by. Couldn’t beat the views, just fabulous! We had 6 people staying in the house, and there was plenty of room for all of us! Will definitely be back!

We have stayed in this area before, in fact realized on the same street 7 years ago. The location is awesome, quiet and beautiful. We hope to return sometime in the near future!!

Home was in a very tranquil setting and close to many activities. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook family dinners.

This is a beautiful home in the most perfect area! It was the perfect fit for our family and we were very pleased with this selection for our Kauai trip. Sunsets from the property each evening and coffee on the lanai in the morning was one of the best parts of the experience. We also enjoyed being able to walk to Queen's Bath from the property. The home is equipped with everything we needed and it was just a really great experience!
Our only negative feedback is that the master bathroom had not been cleaned when we arrived. We purchased cleaning wipes and used some of the supplies available in the home to clean it ourselves but this was somewhat frustrating after such a long trip to get there. The rest of the home was clean and prepared, so I assume this was an oversight and an anomaly, but it was disappointing to us. We also did not have a working dishwasher for the majority of the trip, as an error sign showed up after the first or second load of very minimal dishes. Meg was responsive in trying to get the repairs scheduled but it was not able to be taken care of while we were there which was a bummer.
Overall, lovely property, in a great neighborhood, on the MOST BEAUTIFUL island!

A beautiful, well taken care of and spacious home. The views were amazing. We enjoyed watching the albatross mating dance! It was more spacious than it looked online and we only wished we could have stayed longer!
It was a great spot for our family (grandparents, us and baby).

This property was everything we were hoping it would be. the location was perfect - a walk away from several snorkeling beaches, golf, farmers market. We couldn't have been happier and the communication with home owners was seamless.

You will not be disappointed if you stay here. Melia Kai is as beautiful as the pictures show! Loved the decor. Beds were super comfortable. Having a cooler, beach towels and beach chairs in the garage for use was super helpful. So many beautiful windows! View along the golf course with the ocean behind it was gorgeous. Peaceful, relaxing. Loved staying on the North Shore. Had a mix of clouds, sun & rain while there so unfortunately did not get to sit out on the lanai as much as I wanted - guess I’ll need to come back! 10/10

We loved our stay at Melia Kai! It was perfect for our family of 4 adults and 1 child. The communication was great, the views are spectacular, we had everything we needed, even received recommendations of what to do on our rainy days. The beach chairs and gear were great for the days we could go to the beach. Would highly recommend this house and look forward to coming back!!!

Gorgeous beautifully updated midcentury home on world class Makai golf course. Quiet neighborhood, located near a few restaurants. Stunning sunsets and gorgeous walks, hikes, beaches are close by. Experience all that the Garden Isle has to offer. Meg is a wonderful owner. Highly recommend this home!

was disappointed the hot tub wasn't working but other than that would recommend the property and would consider returning.

We had a blast! It was a beautiful home with everything we needed. The only downside was that the hot tub was not able to go over 95 degrees and the TV volume wouldn’t work. Luckily we didn’t spend much time around the house since we were right up the road from Hanalei bay! We were lucky enough to watch a group of whales swim by from the cliffs next to the house. Thanks for a great place to stay!

Ou stay was comfortable and relaxing—the house was spacious and very beautifully decorated. We were very close to Hanalei, Anini, where the family went to the beach and dine out many times. It was the perfect house to spend the new years!

We had a beautiful house overlooking the golf course and the ocean. The views were magnificent and everything in the house was comfortable and well appointed. We loved the birds and the sounds. The house was light, bright and very clean with little extra added touches such as books, maps, puzzles, etc. We would love to stay there again in the future.

Meg and Zack have a wonderful home on the golf course in Princeville. The look on my son's face when he saw the view of the golf course and ocean was priceless. We loved the layout of the home, the beach gear in the garage, the quiet neighborhood, and the view of the mountains, golf course and ocean are amazing. The location near Hideaways the beach and the neighborhood restaurant of the same name is super convenient.
The communication with Zack and Meg was quick and easy. We hope to come back and stay next year.

We loved staying in this house. Very well appointed. Amazing views on the mountains, the ocean and the golf course. Very comfortable. The only problem we had was that we didn’t want to leave!!

Its a very peaceful, safe, and beautiful community located in Princeville which feels like a gateway to the rest of the north shore: you're just a few miles from Hanalei and some of the most stunning north shore beaches.
Some of our favorites eats:
• Kauai Juice Co - grab and go
• Palate wine bar– high end pizza and wine bar
• Fresh Bite Kauai – food truck (11am – 3pm)
• Nourish Hanalei – (11am – 3pm)
• Wishing Well Shave Ice
• Bar Acuda – Tapas $$$
• Holy Grail Donuts (Thursday – Sunday)
Hikes
o Queens Bath - North Shore - Seasonal and often closed
o Awaawapuhi Trail – West
o Honopu Ridge Trail – NE
o Kalepa Ridge – NE, Sunset Hike
o Kalalau Trail

The views of ocean and mountains are stunning from this property - better than expected from the photos. Beds were comfy. Kitchen had everything we needed - and a bonus I think is worth calling out is that there's filtered water available from the fridge, so no need to spend money on bottled water and burn through a bunch of single use plastics. Adults loved hanging out on the covered decks taking in the view, and kids loved catching lizards and watching baby chicks peck around with mama hen. Easy walk to Queen's Bath and Hideaway Beach, and easy drive to Hanalei. Also easy walk to the golf course grill for lunch and strong beverages. Very quiet neighborhood and low traffic (our group prefers quiet). It does get a bit toasty in the afternoons with the sun, but the solar shades and attic fan keep it tolerable, and in my opinion it wouldn't be worth it to install AC at this property, so all good there. We did notice a "ding" sound in the rain gutters at night after some rain showers, but it's rain on Kauai, what're you gonna do... That shouldn't deter anyone from staying here. Overall - we LOVED it, and would be happy to stay here again!

A beautiful home located on the Makai Golf Course overlooking two fairways with views of the ocean and the Napali Mountains, and great sunset views to the west. The home is situated in a quiet residential area with convenient access to the Kuhio Highway and nearby Princeville Shopping Center (Foodland groceries, restaurants, shopping and fuel, etc.) Also just a short drive from Hanalei, a cute Hawaiian village and beach.
The house is nicely renovated with updated infrastructure, modern appliances, windows, doors, floors, etc. Beds are very comfortable with ceiling fans in all bedrooms. With large patio doors and windows on all sides, the house is ‘open and airy’, connecting its occupants to the beautiful Kauai outdoors. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything one needs. It is a very comfortable home for a relaxing vacation. We thoroughly enjoyed the daily visits and cheery songs of the various bird species that inhabit the area. This was our second visit to Melia Kai and we thoroughly enjoyed the home, its location, amenities, privacy, peace and quiet of the neighborhood. We would definitely return to this house again in the future.
We have been renting properties through VRBO and its predecessor, Homeway.com, for many years, with good results. Melia Kai is one of the nicest properties we have ever found. The owner and host, Meg, is amazingly considerate, responsive and always helpful. She is by far, one of the best owners we have dealt with. Mahalo, Meg!

When I rented the property it was done so based on need to fulfill our needs to accommodate different groups that were on going to attend our daughters wedding on Kauai and proximity to the other houses that we rented for guests. I’m happy to say that this house was an excellent choice

We had 6 people staying at this house and it worked well for that size. There are alot of rules to follow so maybe next time we won’t come with our young children. This house has really nice furniture that I was scared my kids would mess up. Also, we weren’t allowed on the grass. The dishwasher was really frustrating and not user friendly. No AC. BUT everything overall was wonderful and I would still recommend it to friends. Beautiful house, location and communication. Beach chairs, umbrella, and boogie boards in the garage. Even a few coolers! Loved having a washer and dryer. Hot tub was 93 in the summer so perfect for the early morning. Queens bath was a short hike away. So wonderful overall.

Great house in a great location
The house is beautiful and has a great view of the ridge lines surrounding Hanalei. There’s good space for a family and the kitchen was well-stocked. Meg was very easy to communicate with and check in and out was quick and painless. The master bed was very comfortable. A possibly helpful tip- We were there during a hot few days, which I believe is fairly abnormal, and we found that between the hours of 2-5pm the living area of the house was too warm to hang out in (even with running the attic fan). The bedrooms are better during this time because the breeze comes in on that side of the house and they are shaded from direct sunlight. However, it might be in your best interest to plan on being out of the house during that timeframe if it’s a hot day. Overall, it’s a great house in a great location that we’d definitely stay at again.

Lovely home with beautiful views and great location!
Our group of five - two parents and three 20-something kids - thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend Meg's, bright, comfortable, home with its beautiful ocean view and great location between Hanalei and Kilauea.
The home has fun mid-century mod decor, but with actually comfortable furniture (not a given with mid-century style). Though we enjoy dining out, we don't like to do so every night, nor for breakfast. So it was important to us to have a well equipped kitchen and nice settings for eating, both of which this house has in abundance! The boogie boards and beach chairs were also a big plus!
Though we're not a big fan of golf courses, being at that location on the golf course had the advantage of providing big open views to the ocean. We also liked being half way between Hanalei and Kilauea as we enjoyed beaches, activities, restaurants in both towns.
All in all, a wonderful stay at a lovely house!

This home is a must stay if you’re planning to be in the Princeville area. Comfortable accommodations, spacious living space, tranquil setting with ocean views. We played golf, hiked, beached, relaxed, hot tubbed, grilled, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our time in and around this home. And our neighbors, the albatross, made it an absolute delight. Meg is a very conscientious and gracious host. Thank you!
