Spacious, comfortable house with sea and mountain views.

About this houserental

Located in Shizuoka Prefecture, this attractive house for $396 per night is a fantastic choice for your next vacation. This house has been completely renovated over the past year and is fully equipped with new furnishings, kitchen and appliances. It is located next to a forest and faces due South to Sagami Bay. There is plenty of room for outdoor dining off the ground-floor sitting-room, and the main upstairs bedroom enjoys a large cypress-wood deck for sun-downers and star-gazing. (You could take a futon outside on a clear night and sleep al fresco). The second floor has two large bedrooms with air-conditioning, (one with double bed, the other with two singles) and a toilet/vanity. Downstairs there is a living area, shower and Japanese bath with vanity, separate toilet, store-room and a large Japanese room equipped with two, semi-double futon. A wood-burning stove provides heating while three rooms have ceiling fans. There is WIFI throughout the building, and a CD/Bluetooth/wireless sound system. The kitchen has a new dish-washing machine, refrigerator and washer/drier, gas range and oven, toaster, food-processer, French-press coffee maker, Nespresso machine sand cappuccino frother, and all table ware and cutlery. It is all very comfortable and easy to use. The owner has designed the house with a modern Japanese feeling but with Western comfort in mind. The house is located in an area of villas used mainly by retirees and holiday visitor/owners, and is blissfully quiet. Even though secluded, it is only 400 metres from the station and just a few minutes drive to supermarkets, restaurants, hot-spring spas and the ocean. The Izu peninsula is a nature-lover's paradise with lushly-forested mountains and a spectacular coastline. The nearby underwater sea park is one of the world's famous diving spots and tanks and support are available in the local fishing villages. A warm current from the South flows in during the summer months bringing many colourful tropical fish, and as the coast here consists of a lava-flow, the water is exceptionally clear. For other activities, there is a hot-spring-heated Olympic-size 50-metre swimming pool a few minutes drive away, as well as tennis courts, golf-courses all over Izu, sea-kayaking, mountain-biking and hiking. Mysterious temples and shrines are found everywhere, and throughout the year there are many festivals, and performances such as Noh drama by firelight. For those with time, the Izu Islands are accessible by boat from Atami and Shimoda and provide active volcanoes, sub-tropical vegetation, coral reefs – and more spectacular diving. Even though there is a good train service, this house would be most suitable for a family – or a group of friends – who are perhaps a little adventurous and have their own transportation. There are plenty of car rental agencies. (Note: foreign visitors need an international driving license). Length of stay is negotiable but the owner would prefer guests who would like to stay for five nights or more in order to explore Izu. The owner is a long-term resident living nearby who will meet guests on arrival to explain how to use the house and help if needed with recommendations on what to see and do. Guests will be provided with a welcome bottle of wine in the refrigerator, plus everything for the first breakfast, plus maps and essential local See virtual tour here
