Jul 2021Wonderful cottage! Very clean and comfortable. The woodwork inside is amazing. Yard is lovely. Short drive to Lake Bomoseen State Park. Communication was excellent. We enjoyed exploring the area. We also drove about an hour to Warren Falls, which was absolutely beautiful. This is our favorite cottage we have stayed in. I hope we can return someday. Thank you for a fantastic vacation!

Jul 2022We were pleased with ability to walk on a country road, and have a beach close by. The accommodations were perfect for the group we had. The stairs were a bit steep.
We enjoyed the firepit every evening.

Sep 2022We stayed here for our friends’ wedding at the Lake Bomoseen Lodge and Taproom. It was perfect! Plenty of space, close to the venue and with all the Vermont charm you’d expect. We had a great experience!

May 2018We love this house and the location! It's just perfect for us : ) The owner is always gracious and accommodating. And the fire pit is awesome too! We always see deer and other wildlife, and it's quiet and country, but also close to town.

Jan 2020We have rented several properties during the winter and this was the absolute best. House has plenty of charm, being a converted barn. The kitchen is well stocked, bathroom is big, clean and functional. The beds were comfy, parking was ample and plowed. We were very pleased with everything and will rent this lovely house again!

Aug 2022We had the best long weekend at this awesome house. Loved the old stable interior! The property was beautiful and well maintained. The house was clean and orderly. The location made it quick and easy for access to the lake for the day. Would 100% stay again and definitely recommend!

Aug 2021We had a very enjoyable stay at this property. The property itself was exactly as pictured and described in the listing's photos and details. It was located within an hour's to slightly more than an hour's drive of the the most distant destinations we'd planned to visit during our stay.
There was no need to contact Alison during our stay regarding an issue or request because all advertised features in the listing were available (and things like AC, cable, and wifi operated without incident). We did bring along a clothes iron because I didn't notice one when reading through the listing when I booked initially. (I look around for one once I arrived but couldn't find one. Its absence wasn't a big deal though, since most people today probably aren't looking for an iron anyway.)
Notably, the kitchen was surprisingly well stocked with some appliances that I'd not typically found in other vacation rentals. That was great.
Lastly, I appreciated the presence of what appeared to be many original architectural and structural features in the living area of the building, especially. The handcut beams that were part of the barn's frame, the wooden barnboard walls, and stable stall doors all lent a rustic and relaxing atmosphere to the overall experience. Sitting in different places in the living room always presented you with different things to look at.
Thank you, Alison, for the part your property played in contributing to a memorable summer visit to Vermont.

Oct 2019We had a great time staying in this cute renovated horse barn! The location was excellent for visiting family that lived nearby. The house was in excellent condition and worked well with our family of 6. We will definitely try to stay here again next year!

Jul 2018We had a great time at "the Barn" Alison was very helpful and everything was turn-key. The only thing we had to bring was sheets and towels. There is so much to do there. We went Kayaking everyday at the state park and at KOA campground up the road. We drove up to the castleton college and walked and biked the delaware hudson trail. We rode horses at pond hill ranch. We used the BBQ outside and made a small campfire and roasted marsh-mellows every night. it was very hot outside but we were surprisingly cool inside with all of the natural shade in the house. I cant wait until we get another chance to visit the Barn. Thank you so much!

Oct 2018We found the house and property to be quite comfortable. There was plenty of wildlife, including deer, to be seen from the window. The house is located fairly close to convenience stores, restaurants,(some which deliver) and the lake. We found the owner and staff to be pleasant and accommodating.
We would recommend this home to those who enjoy a simple but pleasant, scenic environment.

Mar 2022We enjoyed our stay at the carriage house. The house had everything we needed. We cooked, used the woodstove, and used the washing machine and dryer. Everything was in working order and the house was clean and tidy. Allison was a good communicator. I love the rustic look of the house. We plan to come back!

Jul 2018We booked this for a last-minute summer trip and couldn't have been happier with the house and the location. The house itself doesn't have any immediate neighbors so if you have loud family or, like us, barking dogs, it's ideal (though there is no fence for the dogs).
The house has everything you need, inside and out. Fire pit, small charcoal grill, chairs outside plus all the wood and charcoal you'd need. We didn't use the wood-burning stove because it was 90+ degrees during our stay. But for those booking summer trips, there is an air-conditioner in the living room that keeps the entire downstairs cool. And an air conditioner upstairs (though we didn't use the upstairs while there, so can't speak to the power of that one). Five-minute drive to Castleton beach. Fifteen minute drive (tops) to State Park on the other side of the lake, where you can hike (great path along Glenn Lake), rent kayaks or just hang out on the beach on Bomoseen lake. And less than a five-minute drive straight up the road to "town" where you'll find a couple of restaurants and convenience stores.
For those who just like to relax in the house, it had cable, solid wi-fi, comfortable furniture, some classic board games, and a ping-pong table in the basement.
And the owner was quick to respond to all questions before the rental.

Jan 2022This was the perfect setting to spend a quiet and relaxed New Year's holiday with my friend. The features of the old barn provide great charm and the house is stocked with all the necessities in both the kitchen and bathroom. The wood stove and outdoor fire pit provide the ambiance for relaxed evenings. The house is close to great hiking trails at Bomoseen State Park and a quick drive to Rutland. I'll definitely look to book this property when I'm back in the area and I would highly recommend it to anybody else traveling to the area.

Feb 2022This is our 3rd time renting "The Barn". Everything about it makes it a perfect little rental. First, it is clean. When you arrive, you know someone took the time to keep it nice. Along, with cleanliness, the property was plowed early(we had significant snow overnight and plow came by 7:15 a.m.). Love the wood-burning stove, wood included. The appliances are good, the bathroom is in full working order, and the kitchen has all the gadget you need. Alison is so easy to work with. The barn is just a short ride to Lake Bomoseen and Castleton Corners. We will return!

Aug 2022This is a very unique and cozy home, a renovated former horse stable. The home has everything you need, good wifi too. Quiet relaxing location. Very nice for sitting by the fire. If you are keen on Lake Bomoseen and enjoying the surrounding mountains, this is a good choice. Close enough for a trip to Fort Ticonderoga by ferry too. Pond Hill Ranch for trail rides too.

Aug 2019The owner had made all kinds of thoughtful provisions including umbrellas, basic kitchen needs, tourist information etc. The only reason not to give it five stars is that the stairs to the second storey were quite treacherous - no hand rail near the bottom and uneven. Also, there were unexpected steps into and in the middle of one of the upstairs bedrooms. We loved the downstairs area - Large characterful living area and well-supplied kitchen. A few extra towels would have been nice in the bathroom. We noticed there were very few outlets so plug-in bars would be useful for guests to bring (or owner to provide) The house is in a beautiful setting and very quiet. Despite the difficulty for the two people staying upstairs it served our purpose well.

Jul 2019Our family of four; 12 and 5 year old children, loved this property. It truly had everything. The natural rustic feel inside with the barn doors was fun for the kids. We spread out between all the bedrooms and enjoyed the well stocked kitchen that had all the pots, pans and utensils for all of our cooking. The yard is huge with beautiful old trees, plenty of room for baseball and badminton, outdoor fire pit, picnic table and grill. Just amazing. We visited Rutland, Burlington, lake dunmore, crystal beach and more spots during our stay. It was incredibly comfortable, clean, inviting and relaxing. We would definitely return!

Aug 2021My family attended a wedding at the Lake Bomoseen Lodge on Sunday. We stayed at the house from Friday to Monday. It is just a few minute drive to the venue. So convenient! Other guests stayed in Rutland and were jealous of our location. We spent the day Saturday at Lake Bomoseen State Park - just beautiful! We ate dinner at The Lake House, Bomoseen. Gorgeous views and great food & staff. We loved our weekend and the house worked out perfectly for us. We'd stay again.

Jul 2022I lived in the Castleton area about 35 years ago, and I finally managed to book a vacation back there (introducing my family to Vermont and New England). "The Barn" was a fantastic place to stay for a week; my family and I were very comfortable and greatly enjoyed it. Alison was very receptive and friendly, and the property met the description to the letter. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

May 2019House was cozy, cute, very clean and heat was wonderful as the weather was chilly. Beautiful area, not overly far from Fort Ticonderoga and Crown Point. Very comfortable and pleasant over all. Would recommend it.
