We booked this property for a family reunion. First the positives - The location was fantastic and right on the beach with beautiful views. We lucked out with great weather, especially in December. The living area was huge and well laid out - very nice furniture, including the tv and sectional couch which looked new. The dining area and kitchen were also very nice. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, utensils, and other items.
Now the negatives - False advertising: We based our decision to rent this house because the website stated 6 bedrooms. However, there are are only 5. I guess the gameroom is supposed to be the 6th bedroom as it does have a sleeper couch, but it's basically unusable as there is no pull-out room. I should have suspected something was wrong as I messaged the owner twice asking about the number of beds but I never received a response.
We were really looking forward to having a gameroom but found it to be unusable as the pool table and foosball table were in terrible condition.
The toilets are very old and we had to call maintenance the first day to come fix one. The carpet in one of the bedrooms is nasty and needs to be removed. The inside stairs leading up to the main living area are unsafe.
We made it work and did have a nice time but I wouldn't rent this house again because it's way over priced for what you get. Putting aside the bedroom situation, it's old and worn and needs alot of updating and maintenance work.

Couldn't have been better!! The accommodations were on spot and the location was perfect. Far enough out of town for the experience and close enough to the seawall where the drive was easy. Nothing better to wake up, grab your coffee and go sit on the beautiful deck overlooking the view. Will we go back? YOU BET

The condition of certain parts of the house are extremely disappointing. Especially considering the cost per night I would not book this location again. Here are a few of the main issues: 1) carpet in one of the bedrooms was badly stained and dirty. Only thing I could compare it to is the carpet in a fraternity house where lots of parties are held. 2) nails on the deck are popped up all over. Not ideal for any situation, but especially not a beach house where people are likely to be barefoot. 3) main entryway door knob kept falling off 4) second floor deck access door latch was rusted so badly it was stuck in the “open” position. Only way to keep the door closed was deadbolt which left anyone on the deck locked out of the 2nd floor. 5) looks like there was an attempt to fix a roof leak on second level. Left tar all over the deck that would stick to shoes/feet. 6) in kitchen area and living room upstairs has gotten water damage and splitting in several places.
In general when you walk through the house almost everything floor was uneven and slanted. Several “soft” spots under the laminate flooring where your foot sunk slightly. Floor did not feel solid underneath. Outside on the lower level I observed several structural bolts where the nut had completely deteriorated and was gone. On of the bolts was also 3/4 of the way out of the hole, which should not be the case. I’m actually not sure how structurally sound the building is.

*Broken window-replacement glass is taped on with black duct tape
*Top balcony - LOOSE railing
*Stairs treads warped- prepare to trip going up and/or fall going down
*Outdoors shower has only hot water- you have 30 seconds before you burn your kids.
*No working downstairs hydrant/spicket at the water hose
*broken and wobbly furniture, soon they will totally break and someone will be injured.
*
*Floor is water damaged in dining
*Master bath shower/tub faucet is broke
*shower glass doors do not slide on track.
*No working lights outdoors downstairs
*second story hall lights near stairs do not work.
*Nasty, dirty, old carpet in bedrooms
*ITS FIVE BEDROOMS, not six and don’t think about sleeping in game room; couches are nasty, downstairs smells like dog urine
*Not enough space for the other details…
***Summing it up, this property is a great beach front location and has potential to be a nice property but should be banned for commercial use until major repairs and updates made. They certainly make enough money to do so with grossly over priced rental fees. Maybe the owner who appears to be a lawyer only understands lawsuits. One is surely coming because it won’t be long before someone is seriously injured by one or more of these vacation rental infractions.

Loved being able to walk out the door and immediately be on the beach. It was super convenient to be able to run back to the house and make some sandwiches for the kiddos for lunch while they were still playing in the water.

The house is amazing. Beds for all nine of our grandchildren and 3 children and spouses. Game room was a big hit with the kids because the weather was not the best. One bedrooms ceiling leaked cuz it rained so hard but no harm done. Our granddaughter said it was the best vacation she’s ever had!! She is 8!

This house was absolutely filthy. Trust the reviews and not the photos. That’s how we got fooled and especially scammed. The photos are heavily photoshopped. The house smells awful, is falling apart due to lack of maintenance, there is mold, dirty carpet in rooms and stains all over the place. There was half an inch of dust everywhere. The rooms are worse than motel 6 in a deserted highway. The management company is awful and won’t respond to your messages. On the second night of our stay one room started leaking brown water from the ceiling due to outside rain. Mind you this was not a storm or anything crazy outside. Just normal rain. However the ceiling was leaving in multiple places and all brown water. I contacted them in the morning and 3 more times during the day and they didn’t send anyone to check. They only sent a blow up mattress at 11 pm after I kept messaging them all day long letting them know one family has no place to sleep. One family had to sleep in the living room for the remainder of the stay. We finally had enough after and left a day early because we couldn’t take it anymore. We have tried multiple times to contact the owner and management ever since but they keep ignoring us. It was a nightmare and completely ruined our spring break. The only positive about this house is the location but it’s ridiculously overpriced and falsely advertised. It’s also a 5 bedroom 3/5 bath but is advertised as 6 bedroom 6 bath which is a bold face lie. For this amount you can stay in the best hotels or best beachfront properties in Galveston. This place is an absolute scam so beware.

While this home’s view is beautiful the house itself is lacking. The floors have had obvious water damage that was just covered with sheet vinyl, several soft spots that felt like you could fall through the floor. The safety latch on the third floor elevator had been removed from the door and screwed to the wall in the elevator shaft. We had small children in our party and were afraid they would open the door and fall down the shaft so we piled our coolers in front of the door to bar their access. The patio door doesn’t have a latch and the bar that was provided to allow the door to be locked just collapsed into itself, we had to use a rod in the track. The electrical outlets outside are a nightmare! The main service box outside needs to be replaced desperately, it is half rusted away and has a large hole in it. The deck is all splintered, don’t walk on it with bare feet. The hot water runs out quickly, we were a group of 16 so showers had to be staggered. The outside shower doesn’t have an enclosure and only has hot water available. The soffit underneath the deck is falling down, and there is a bird nesting in the chimney! The plume pod on the top floor doesn’t work so there isn’t internet to 1/2 the house, 3 guys in our group are very tech savvy so tried for several hours and failed to get it functioning. On the positive side, the beds are comfortable, the washer and dryer work well, the dishwasher cleans well. As one of our party pointed out the issues didn’t “inconvenience “ us so after 2 days of travel we made the best of it!

My family & a few friends had a great time at Buccaneer Manor. The location directly on Pirates' Beach is phenomenal. It was relaxing to watch the waves and fun to see beach goers during the day. Our weather was perfect with sun and 71-73 degrees during our stay in January. The Manor provided plenty of room for our group of 8 to spread out and gather. Many fun games were played in the game room and the great room upstairs. The kitchen had lots of dishes, bowls, silverware, pots, pans and strainers. During our trip in January we did not see any unwanted insects. (In fact the roach motels that I brought along based on previous reviews went empty, I'm pleased to say.) The charcoal grill and outdoor shower worked well. Definitely do recommend wearing shoes on the deck as there are some uneven places and exposed nails. Yes - there are places inside that could use renovating - but I am unsure how high the price would rise with that! (One shared bathroom had a recently updated walk-in shower and several of the vanities looked recently updated.) I would definitely stay at Buccaneer Manor again!

Only 1 shower actually got hot water which was the master so everyone was using our shower to bath since we had all the hot water! The floors feel like there is major water damage & it feels like you will fall through if stepped on too long. The 80s called & would like all their fixtures & decor back! Pics do not match how actual house is set up. The back deck had a spot broken on the railing as well as the gate was no longer attached & both of these were covered with sideways laying chairs. NOT safe if we would of had animals or toddlers. Messaged the host & the response was they could get a maintenance guy out there to fix things. NOT how we want to spend our days with construction happening.
I'm wondering if the new owners have even seen the property!? Spent way too much on this house as we wanted our whole family together before leaving for our cruise & besides being right on the beach this was a huge disappointment for everyone. Would not stay here again.

We rented this house for Labor Day weekend with a group of friends and our kids. Our stay got off to an ominous start when we walked into the living room and saw the ocean view obscured by a giant blue tarp the property managers had nailed over half of the windows and deck. When I asked why the tarp was there, they said it’s because rain was in the forecast and the house leaks. Then we noticed that they had politely left us buckets in the bedrooms as well, which had water damage all over the ceilings. Not promising!
The second day of our trip, the rain began. Sure enough, it soon began raining from the ceilings in two of the bedrooms. Rain was dripping into our luggage, the kids’ pack and plays, etc. The ceiling in one bedroom was bowing so badly from water it looked like it would cave in at any time. All we could do is move our stuff out of the rooms and use the buckets to catch as much water as we could. When I contacted the management company to tell them what was happening, they sent a maintenance guy over…to bring us more buckets! Unbelievable. They never offered any help or even an apology, and then proceeded to completely blow me off when I asked them to remedy the situation.
Because their bedroom was leaking, one family moved into the downstairs game room. Unfortunately, we soon learned that room was covered in roaches. So they had to go back and sleep in the leaking room. The family in the other leaking bedroom had to move to the bunk room and share bunk beds with their kids. It truly was the stay from hell and I can’t believe the owners rent this home in good conscience. The water stains all over the ceilings and the soft spots in the floors make clear that the leaks have been going on a long time. It’s simply unacceptable to rent this home out in its current condition. I have provided videos and photos to VRBO and hope they’ll do the right thing.
Other highlights:
-elevator is broken
-there is no exterior hose to wash off sandy items
-the outdoor shower is in a mosquito nest and unusable as a result
While the location is undeniably fantastic, I’m sure there are other properties on the beach that don’t rain from the ceiling. My advice is to rent one of those!

This house is in the perfect location right on the beach. There was plenty of room for our large family gathering. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. A huge problem for our family was that there was no beach towels we had to go out and buy 12 towels as we traveled from California and Oregon and did not bring towels so this was a major issue. Also do not plan to take a hot shower the water temperature only gets luke warm if you are lucky several people had to take cold showers. Over all the house is beautiful and we really enjoyed our stay.

The best thing about this rental is the location. We all loved being able to step outside the door and step onto sand. Being able to sit on the deck and watch the kids play on the sand below was so much fun. Having the game room was great also. Everything we needed in the kitchen was there. The only concerns would be some maintenance issues with bathroom doors, and a leak on the ceiling in one bedroom. Overall, our group really enjoyed our time at this house.

The deck spaces are amazing! The layout of the house is ideal for large groups. The kitchen and main living room are on a floor by themselves allowing for quiet peaceful sleeping on the other floors while preparing breakfast or just coffee to enjoy on the expansive deck. Beautiful views and near a fish market which is always a MUST HAVE for us when we're near the ocean. Looking forward to a return trip.
