DISCLAIMERS ABOUT THE BEACH ISLAND BUM: We are a 1,300 sq/ft cape-cod with lots of charm, I am sure from time-to-time will have some minor imperfections. We are not a luxury stay nor do we intend to be, our goal is to be a comfortable, simple and cozy so you have a fun and relaxing vacation! Our cleaner does an awesome job of cleaning but given we are dog friendly as our property is, and the fact that we are humans there is a possibility of a human error, if there is an issue during your stay let us know and they will come back to address it! We do not have any control over things that happen outside our property lines or the weather. The host will be available through phone, text and email. In case of an emergency a local team member can assist in person.

We chose this house due to proximity to other family staying at Oak Island. The property was great and the owner was very responsive.

Amazing
Amazing
The home was as advertised. It was clean, in a nice neighborhood. There were 4 adults, one child, and a 1 pet. We loved the back deck we had breakfast and dinner there several times. Loved the beds very comfortable. BabyGirl loved the backyard and got exercise exploring. Kitchen is large with lots of counter space. We had everything we needed to stay for the week. Jolene was awesome and quick to answer any questions we had. I would truly suggest you check it out. Now the downside . We regret not booking this home for 2 weeks instead of one. Nothing negative here. Excellent stay and hope to be back and stay longer.

CONS: SURVEILLANCE: House has cameras in the front of the house and back of the house pointing at the entire backyard and front yard which is in direct violation of VRBO policy, which states that cameras cannot be position on "Areas where guests have a reasonable expectation of privacy should not be under surveillance." These cameras were not disclosed on the listing when we booked and only updated by the owner after our stay after we flagged this violation (Please note: the current camera disclosure on this listing regarding cameras does not account for the fact that the cameras are positioned in such a way that it is still an invasion of guest privacy). We could have gotten a full refund for our stay based on this violation but we let it slide. Big mistake -- we should have checked out immediately. BUGS: During our stay we had three different roaches visit the inside of the house, which freaked out our kids and was disgusting. We never have any problems with bugs at home and kept the house clean -- keeping trash and recycling in the appropriate bins at all times. SHODDY CONSTRUCTION: While we were staying there we had a mirror fall off the medicine cabinet randomly and smash on the floor. The folding door in front of the washer/dryer kept falling off the tracks given that it was not installed properly. We also noticed that the banister leading up the very steep staircase was loose and thus not installed into studs or with wall anchors. In addition, they installed ceiling fans that are way too big and low so you will find yourself running into these if you are more that 5'8'. They also put in a hallway light in the upper hall that hangs at eye level for anyone over 6' tall. Just very shoddy and cheap "improvement" work all throughout. BEDS UNCOMFORTABLE: The king bed in the master has a plastic cover on it which makes it very uncomfortable. The queen bed gives in like hammock. NOISY: The washer is very close to the dining and living room sounds like a helicopter taking off so good luck trying to have a relaxing meal or watch TV while you do laundry. LOCATION: house was not close to any open foot bridges to the beach so you have to walk an extra 10 blocks to get to the beach. The foot bridge to the beach was under construction the entire time we were there. EXTRA CHARGES: Owner charged us for incidental scratches on dining room table. PROS: * Owner allowed us to check in a little early * The house was well stocked with kitchen appliances
