Nice place, but beware: hidden payments and dishonest accusations.
The place itself is very nice: good location, magnificent sunset view. Some of the furniture is antique, which gives the place the warm feeling. We treated the property with care and respect. Covered tables to protect them where needed. Notified the owners when their watering system failed and garden started to feel unwell (we kept watering it ourselves until the problem was resolved).
What did not went well: upon arrival owner requested to provide secutity deposit in cash (which was not indicated upon booking), claiming that they will send it back via bank transfer if everything is all right. So this payment did not go through homeaway protection. After departure they decided to restore their furniture at our cost claiming that the damage that accumulated over years of usage has ben caused by us.
* One of the surfaces they are unhappy about was covered by paper all the time. We put a pack of drawing paper at the first day and never removed it. There is no way we could damage the surface.
* The second surface is a table at the entrace. When we arrived it has been already used for storing the kind of stuff you may need at any moment. We mostly put our hats and sunglasses there. It is no wonder that the surface has been worn out, but why accuse us on doing that withing a month.
* Regarding the third table, we indeed did damage the varnish a little while cleaning a spot, which probably existed before we arrived. We wanted to be good citizens and leave the table clean. To our defence I must say that the varnish was already quite fragmented and was in a condition when it could be wiped with a wet tissue without much effort. While we accept this case, it is not a basis for claiming that any other scratch or spot is our deed.
I should also note that on departure owners asked us to leave the house clean (and we tidied it up: kitchen and tableware all cleaned, no rubbish left, all used bed linen and towels collected in the laundry room, floors swept), but then said that the house "obviously still needed lots of cleaning" and demanded to pay full cleaning fee which was slightly higher than indicated on homeaway.Read more
