Great Home and Oceanfront setting
home excessively hot on check in. Meaning it was necessary to add AC to the reservation. Home needs maintenance attention in several areas that were communicated to manager. Despite this, the home is lovely and our stay was great. The home is well stocked with linens and back and activity supplies. Would stay again. Read more

First time to vacation in Kona was a pleasant surprise
My whole extended family, including my parents and brother's family, totaling 9 people really enjoyed our stay. The location on the water was beautiful and walking distance to beaches in both directions on Alii drive. We even fished right off the rocks in front of the house. The sunsets were amazing and we even saw some whales and dolphins. Inside, the house had everything we needed. We cooked often while the kids enjoyed the jacuzzi and small pool. Wayne was a great property manager who had the TV replaced when it broke. I would highly recommend the house to anybody who is looking for more than a house on a golf course. Read more

Superb home and location
Gorgeous home with waves crashing on the rocks feet away. Location was wonderful with short walks to both a wonderful snorkel beach and a sandy beach. Away from the busyness of Kona itself. Read more

Perfect location
The house is in the absolute perfect location. Directly on the rocky beach (no swimming access but also no intruders who wanted to swim). We left the windows open to the ocean breeze night and day and it was divine. In the morning schools of fish congregated near the shore, and in the afternoons we often saw dolphins in the distance. All bedrooms faced the water which was nice. The kitchen was well appointed and the common space big enough to entertain. Now, the negatives. There seems to be a bit of deferred maintenance. The carpet in the hall way is nothing short of filthy and as it was the first thing you saw after walking in the door, it really detracted from an otherwise nice ground floor. The garage is cluttered (and contained two dead rodents), the deck furniture worn, the hot water faucet in one bedroom stopped working while we were there, there is lots of visible exterior rust which is probably a given in the climate but also detracts from otherwise a gem of a building, and the hot tub was not functioning (and not able to be repaired because of a holiday weekend and needing to order parts). A bit of sprucing up and more attention to management would make this place an A+. Our family very much enjoyed our stay. Read more

Wonderful Christmas Vacation!
The location cannot be beat - you literally feel like you are on a cruise ship - looking out every window (including one of the showers!), all you see is the beautiful water! Waves were huge the week we were there (Christmas 2014), and we had to close the windows at night to sleep, and even then, you could hear the waves crashing against the rocks below! We saw whales and dolphins off the lanai's. So nice to sit outside with a cup of coffee or a cocktail and enjoy the views and sunsets. There were tons of things to use in the garage (coolers, chairs, umbrellas). Walking distance to the great snorkel beach as well as Magic Sands, but no swimming in front of the house. On the downside (but nothing hampered our trip), the jacuzzi heater wasn't working (but the property mgr worked with us on that), and the air conditioning downstairs didn't work (not a huge deal except when we first got there and it was real stuffy). There is a grocery store real close. Any issues were quickly addressed. We loved our stay at Hale Honu over Christmas! If you go on a snorkel trip, we highly recommend the Fair Winds tour! Read more

Beautiful home in the perfect location
I couldn't have been happier with our stay at Hale Honu-Oceanfront. The property is beautiful, but nothing beats the view. The outdoor shower is an unexpected perk. We had a mongoose join us for a day (due to us leaving the door open during "move-in"), but he quickly evacuated and did not pose any threats. He went to the bathroom on the floor, and the owner had someone come and remove the droppings immediately. We had an AC issue upon arrival, and it was fixed within hours. The owner was reachable at all times and beyond responsive.
We were visiting Kona to work at the IRONMAN World Championships. It was an ideal location - close to the athlete village and everywhere downtown as well as on the run course. We worked hard all day and did networking at night, and it felt like coming home after a long day. We will be staying again next year.
