The smallest island of the Balearic Islands, the archipelago of Formentera floats in the western Mediterranean Sea, approximately 17 kilometers south of Ibiza. An autonomous community of Spain, Formentera lies around 200 kilometers east of the Spanish mainland. Although the islands of Majorca, Cabrera, and Menorca make up the main body of the Balearics, Formentera forms part of the smaller group of the Pitiusas Islands, along with Ibiza, S'Espalmador, and other islets.
