We had a great time. The location and home is awesome, however the living room furniture needs to be replaced or chair covers could be an option. The grout in some of the showers should be cleaner (some nasty looking spots) and some of the shower liners could be replaced. The pool and game room were well used and the kitchen was well stocked. Overall we enjoyed our stay and booked for next year.

Excellent beach location, we had a great time, but the “owner” needs to step up.
1.The“owners” lawn care company hit a large stone while mowing the lawn and hit one of our cars causing a dent and paint damage. We immediately called the rental company and they said they would contact the “owner”. We have heard NOTHING back from the “owner”.
2. The house is not at all what the pictures show in the listing, it is very well “used”. Duct tape on the furniture, broken chairs, child gates that are broke and useless, the washing machine was broken and not working properly, electric outlet issues, lighting in the pool area where the switches were sparking and light bulbs were out. (We called the rental company and they did send someone out to take care of the electrical issues and address a few other minor problems quickly). The decks are extremely worn, watch out for slivers and nails. The railing to the beach deck was rotted and broken.
3.The bedding was well worn and did not have mattress covers. Some of the spreads were filthy and there was sand in, and on the bedding. We wondered if the “cleaning service” had actually changed the bedding. It seems as if they sprayed the entire house with disinfectant and that was about it. There was mold in many of the showers. Simple bleach can clean that up….
4.Be aware that the house is on the main road, understand that’s there is a LOT of traffic. We heard NO street noise but had to be careful when pulling out of the driveway.

This was the perfect house for our group of 11. Everyone had their private spaces where they could retreat if needed. We had a lovely visit!

We had a great time in this home on the beach. It rained and was cool a couple days during our week but we had fun in the game room and the heated pool and hot tub. I reported that a couple nails popped up and a board came loose on the deck and boardwalk. Also the garage door operator needed lubrication. Josh showed up within an hour and did a great job. We've booked for next year.

We spent the last week at Castle in the Sand which was our second time renting this house. The first was last summer. We found a few things that we think you should be made aware of. When we walked in the first day everything smelled clean and appeared clean. Once we all got into bed however, the sheets on every bed had a sour, terrible smell and all beds needed the sheets washed and put back on which we did. This was a real disappointment and took up a lot of our time. Moving on to the towels. When we went to shower the same awful sour smell was in the towels and then we had to spend time washing those as well. Since the house sleeps 14 we thought that the kitchen would provide adequate silverware. Needless to say, the silverware drawer barely has enough for 11 people for one meal. In the living room, the furniture is significantly worn. There are many holes in the fabric on all the furniture and even duct tape trying to cover holes in one of the chairs. Also again, if the house sleeps 14 they need adequate furniture in the living room to seat everyone and there definitely is not enough. They are in desperate need of outdoor furniture. Both on the top deck and out by the pool. The exhaust fan in middle red bedroom doesn’t work at all. Also, the comforter is ripped and has holes in it. The ceiling fan in the master bedroom upstairs doesn’t work and the blinds in the bathroom broke. (I reported this through the app when we arrived). For the cost of a week in this home, the quality needs to be a little better and it needs a little tlc throughout. The size of this house and beachfront is great. We just thought you should be aware of these things.

Overall the house was amazing. Lots of room and the kitchen had everything you could ask for. The location is great and the view is top notch. The beds could be replaced not real comfortable amd some of the furniture is getting worn.

The house easily accommodated 11 people. The location was great however, the main road stays quite busy and be difficult to pull out at times. The overall vacation was perfect getting up every morning walking the beach and watching the beautiful sunrises. The house does need some updating like new fixtures, faucets and all the furniture was worn. Some of the beds in the rooms are due to be replaced. It wasn't overly clean upon arrival, and we wiped somethings down. We defiantly left it cleaner then it was on arrival. The only real issue was the built in oven was broken upon arrival and we didn't get any emails indicating this and considering it was Easter we found it quite difficult to pull together Easter dinner in 2 toaster ovens. Overall we enjoyed our stay and wished that it hadn't ended so soon. ThanksJason W

This home was Fantastic!! By far our favorite home rental in all the 12 years our group has been traveling together. Completely stocked kitchen with every gadget we could possibly need to prepare meals and cocktails. The home was well kept and clean. Linens and towels were supplied, and having the beds made up for us, was a nice touch. The only hiccup was us trying to figure out how to operate the Televisions. Our group was looking to watch a rival football game on Sunday, and we struggled with all the channels and streaming options. ONE CALL to the maintenance staff and they walked us through which buttons to push without making us feel foolish. THANK YOU!! If I had any suggestion for improvements, it would be to provide a brief ‘HOW-TO’ cheat sheet for the TVs. Otherwise, we were VERY satisfied with our stay, the house, the customer care provided by Beach Realty, and the Maintenance crew.

Our family has been renting this home for the past 12 years. We had rented directly from the owner (Elizabeth) until she sold it several years ago. Since then, the new owner rents thru Beach Realty which has been great! Any issues have been fixed immediately. The layout is perfect and we love that all bedrooms have their own bathroom. I do have 1 request though. The bushes need to be trimmed back (for safety) entering the driveway from the main road. The home address is covered by the bushes as well.

The home was nice. It did need some fixing. The faucet in one of the bathrooms was leaking. One of the lamps in one of the bedrooms wasn’t working love the view I mean oh my goodness the view it was amazing. We are looking for a house to stay next year the same time we will be looking into this home. It was a beautiful home a wonderful stay and I thank you very much.

This was our second stay at Castle in the Sand. The entire family loves it and the location! Our only slight dissatisfaction was that the master bathroom shower and one of the others, I can’t remember which, has mold throughout the grout (same as in 2019). Three cleaning people came but didn’t speak any English so I had to literally spray the bleach (or whatever it was in their spray bottle) onto the grout to show them what to do. I understand they are very busy on checkin/checkout day, but thought I’d give you a heads-up.

I like the 7 bedrooms with toilet on each room.But the vents were not cleaned
Found white hairs like pets hair.I do not like the convection oven.We can not cook bigger portions for 14 people .We have to cook twice since the pots are small.
The elevator is not user friendly.My daughter and her husband felt like the room they occupied was moldy that they got sick.The house needs to be check for molds.But I like the hot tub

The water in the swimming pool is cold although I paid $500 for the pool to be heated.Otherwise our vacation was nice.The house accommodate us .The 2 tables were perfect for 14 people.

Truly enjoyed a week in the lovely Castle in the Sand. Our family loved the space and the large picture windows overlooking the beach! Enough room to eat and have a game/puzzle table. Great theater room for watching movies and our daughter loved playing packman. The location is perfect for sunrise walks to the Kitty Hawk Pier. My favorite part of the trip! Beautiful large bedrooms, four with ocean views December is wonderful in the Outer Banks.

The open concept kitchen, dining living room was expansive and not at any one time did this group feel on top of one another. Relaxing on the rockers, watching the dolphins cruise by and listening to the waves crash on the beach with your morning coffee was incredibly relaxing. If you're looking for the perfect sunrise, this location cannot be beat, as they are spectacular here. The heated pool and hot tub was clean, at the perfect temperatures and provided lots of after noon fun. The movie/game room provided lots of evening entertainment.
Overall, this property provided great memories and I would highly recommend staying here.

The pictures really don’t do this house and property justice! What an amazing experience for my spouse and I and also some family members that spent a couple nights with us. Each room with its own full bathroom, great game room and Plenty of seating in all areas ! Amazing kitchen!!! The kitchen has everything!! The cook weAr is top notch along with ample appliances!! Elevator is fantastic! Stops at all levels, even the game room ; so anyone with any sort of mobility issue would have no issues. . Upper deck- large and fantastic! Plenty of rocking chairs ! Mid deck just as nice! All furniture super comfortable!
Oh but the view!! It’s hard to beat! I’ve rented many places all over the country, and this one takes the cake! You almost feel like you are in a cruise ship when looking out the window from the living room and dinning room!
I would definitely recommend this place for a multi family beach vacation!! Hot tub was great!

The pictures really don’t do this house and property justice! What an amazing experience for my spouse and I and also some family members that spent a couple nights with us. Each room with its own full bathroom, great game room and Plenty of seating in all areas ! Amazing kitchen!!! The kitchen has everything!! The cook weAr is top notch along with ample appliances!! Elevator is fantastic! Stops at all levels, even the game room ; so anyone with any sort of mobility issue would have no issues. . Upper deck- large and fantastic! Plenty of rocking chairs ! Mid deck just as nice! All furniture super comfortable!
Oh but the view!! It’s hard to beat! I’ve rented many places all over the country, and this one takes the cake! You almost feel like you are in a cruise ship when looking out the window from the living room and dinning room!
I would definitely recommend this place for a multi family beach vacation!! Hot tub was great!

I would like to make a suggestion to the owner. Would they please consider a dresser for the Bunk room and possible a larger TV for the family room? Thank you!

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.
Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.

We had a good enjoyable vacation in a house that has significant maintenance, and safety issues. House location and layout very good. Maintenance awful. Worn out, broken, torn, not working furniture, stovetop that is impossible to determine if a burner is on or off(fire hazard), two dishwashers that don't work, loose porch boards, mold and mildew in bathrooms, doors on lower level fell off hinges, others about to fall off, nails popping up in steps, evidence of roof leaks, light bulbs missing or burned out, heavy dust in places that can be seen, shower drain clogged, pool heat that was not working, pool pump vibration causing significant noise in bedrooms, and on and on. Beach Realty was very responsive to issues, but the maintenance needs simply far outweigh their ability to keep up.

The property is a bit outdated, but the location and proximity to the beach was so convenient. Our group of 13 fit very comfortably given the 7 master bedrooms. The check in process is not ideal as you are given a window of time (4-6pm) and are not guaranteed check in until 6pm (the realty company texts you once the house is ready), but this was not ideal given we had multiple groups traveling from various parts of the country and arriving at different times. The property was well kept, but did not seem to have been deep cleaned prior to our arrival. Lastly, we were disappointed by the lack of beach chairs/towels at the property. We assumed given its proximity to the beach, there would at least be chairs we could sit in or an umbrella.

Castle in the Sand is a spacious 7 bedroom oceanfront home with 7 en suite baths and a hallway half-bath spread over two floors, that provided ample space for our 14-member family, ranging from 6 to 67 years of age. Everyone had space but could easily congregate for dinners and family time. We enjoyed ocean views from most bedrooms , the kitchen, living room and dining area, which made each day a pure pleasure. You could see the moon on the ocean most nights and sunrise over the ocean every morning, not to mention dolphins playing off shore each day. A gourmet kitchen with two ovens, two sinks, two dishwashers and a large under-cabinet ice-maker made family dinners and entertaining a breeze. There was also a refrigerator and small sink in the game-room, which had a large screen TV, a pool table, an arcade game and multiple movie chair recliners. Outside was a pool, hot tub, kiddie pool, shower, bathroom and grill, along with our private boardwalk to the beach. Beach Realty staff were very accessible and helpful. If we had a need, they responded quickly and were very friendly. In addition to enjoying the beach and pool, our family sand-surfed, saw the wild horses of Corolla, flew kites on the beach, enjoyed an escape-room adventure and explored nature walks and shops in nearby Duck, Kitty Hawk and Nags Head, not to mention a round of golf at a links course. Overall, Castle in the Sand was a perfect family oceanfront vacation spot, and we thoroughly enjoyed it!

The location & size of house are as advertised. However, it is in need of repairs. Broken deck door, broken chair with sign “ do not sit” 2 loose stairs, 1 of the dishwashers did not work. TV s need updating. view & beachfront were awesome. elevator very convenient.
