We so enjoyed our week at the Glasshouse! The open-air layout was unique and gave the wonderful feeling of practically living outdoors, which was wonderful on breezy days and cool nights and harder on full-sun days and humid nights, though the house is well-supplied with fans. We felt like we were living in a treehouse, in the best way. Outdoor shower was a treat, house well-equipped with a modern, well-appointed kitchen. Nice linens, bathrobes, towels.... everything you need. (Roku TV was an added bonus, so we could watch Wimbledon with our Fubo!) Joe was a communicative and friendly host, making our stay relaxing as can be.

It might be difficult to explain to someone who has not had a prior "glass house" experience, but trust me, this is truly something which must be experienced, first hand. From the real, obvious and purposeful integrations with the surrounding space and environment, to the dramatic beauty one experiences on a continual basis, to the very peaceful and serene location, it's truly a one-of-a-kind experience - as well as one that I fully endorse and recommend, hands down!

My family had a lovely stay at the glass house. We had six adults and one infant and with the new guest house on the property, we had plenty of space. The house itself is a masterpiece and the kitchen had everything we needed to make some delicious home cooked meals with fresh seafood from Larsens fish market. We all loved the outdoor shower as well. Joe was very helpful and communicative leading up to our stay. Thank you Joe !

This house is amazing. It mixes architectural history, a modern kitchen, and nature in a lovely way. It is a bit "rustic" - in so far that the only traditional shower is outside, and you must go into the courtyard to transition between rooms, but this really made the experience and what's better than taking a nice breath of fall weather as soon as you wake up. The check in process was easy. The grounds were lovely. And I look forward to staying here again. The wood stove was perfect and easy to use, and the space heaters were a helpful amenity.

We booked the glasshouse because we were intrigued. Staying there satisfied our curiosity and afforded us a unique experience. The house is all glass with all off the rooms off the interior courtyard. There are many sliding doors to open and close and curtains to slide across. The kitchen is very well and eclectedly equipped. Joe is very responsive and his caretaker is there when you need him. The setting is beautiful.

The Glass House is a unique home you won’t find anywhere else on the island. The location in central Chilmark with access to Lucy Vincent and Menemsha Cove is unmatched. We kayaked our three and four year olds to the barrier islands and walked our infant in a carrier. Amazing tide pools for safe swimming. We used our Squibinocket access to bring our dog before 9am. The interior courtyard at the house lights up beautifully and on a clear night you can see the sunset. Joe responded quickly to our concerns over a torn screen and it was repaired the next day. If you’re coming this time of year, we’d encourage you to bring personal and fogger mosquito spray. The house is well equipped with fans, but if you’re consistently using all bedrooms you may want to bring one more. The outdoor shower is the best.

Best place to rent in MV
This was our second year in a row renting this tremendously beautiful and unique house in Chilmark/Menemsha. We love the vibe and even spent more time at the house than in years past—cooking dinners with the evening sunset spilling through the kitchen and grounds all around. Loved our beach days at Lucy Vincent and enjoyed a dinner out at Chilmark Tavern. We highly recommend renting bikes and taking rides into Menemsha for fresh seafood or ice cream. And I especially enjoyed spending a couple nights paddle boarding down at the cove (Menemsha Ponds) and fly-fishing for stripers. Don’t miss out on a memorable and lovely and unique vacation home. The outdoor shower is the best I’ve ever seen, too!

In a word, breathtaking!
Wonderful property, everything you need and more. Magnificent setting, sunsets were exceptional. Plenty of space for a family, loved eating our fresh caught clams around the beautiful table. Joe has thought of everything, definitely will make plans to return to this remarkable house.

Great location for relaxation
We very much enjoyed our stay at this very unique home. It is on the quieter side of MV and about a 20-25 minute drive from Oak Bluffs. That said, we enjoyed being able to retreat to a peaceful location away from the crowds of the busier areas. The host is excellent and checked on us the day after check in to make sure all was well.

The pandemic made it difficult for us to make our yearly Memorial Day weekend at MV for a couple of years. We were so excited to find such a unique location for our return this year. The house was well appointed with very comfortable bed and bathrooms. The kitchen was also fully stocked. Our favorite was the outdoor shower. The owner was responsive to any questions and gave us great information regarding the house and area. We loved our stay!

The house is wonderfully unusual. The way you move through the space is very cool, and really gives you a feeling of being half inside half outside. It is in a gorgeous location, with easy access to beaches, a couple of restaurants, and beautiful hiking/biking trails. Magical.

My family was excited to experience the all glass house. I must say that we were not dissappointed. The house is a truly unique home. It is more like a luxury camping experience. What the pictures online do not convey is how amazing the lot is. You truly feel as if you are in your own private nature reserve. Every morning I awoke to a wild turkey silently moving through the yard. I felt as disconnected from the cacophony of modernity as I could, while still having all the luxuries of home. Our family talked, shared and laughed like we had not in ages. The TV was barely ever on and, for the most part, ear buds, IPads and laptops barely saw the light of day. Joe, the Owner, was easy to communicate with and we never felt abandoned. We really do thank him and his family for sharing their wonderful vacation home.

The glass house is unlike any other. It was built in an age of experimentation and has many unusual characteristics. It is a house for adults, not children.

One-of-kind experience in a spectacular, beautifully designed home. Host was incredibly responsive. Kayaking in Menemsha pond (minutes away) was a highlight. The home, featured in Martha Vinyard Home and Garden, has interesting history. Outdoor shower is spa-like. Unique, memorable experience in a beautiful part of the island.

At the outset, the process of booking the house, getting information about the house and the area were amazing. The owner is first class. He is incredibly responsive and his intent is clearly to make the process easy and it was accomplished. This house is amazing, but please understand you are out in the middle of nowhere and I mean nowhere, but it is incredibly peaceful, relaxing and very soothing. We enjoyed the house immensely (we did not cook nearly as much as we thought we would, but the house is clearly equipped for good meals). The house is very clean. There are 2 bathrooms, but primarily the outside shower is the source of bathing. Now, that takes a little getting used to, but oh my, I miss that shower and actually told my husband we should install one at our home. The water pressure and temperature of the water on a coolish evening was so refreshing. I would recommend this house if you want to be away from everything. We were able to decompress and relax and just enjoy the beauty that was all around us. I also have to put in a plug for Menmesha Deli-Oh my, the most wonderful women who work there and everything they prepare is delicious and I mean everything! BY the end of the stay, they knew us. We loved this place and we’ll be back. I feel like l left just a little of my soul there. Joe, thank you and thanks to your dad for designing and building such a wickedly amazing retreat!

The Glasshouse is such a beautiful and fun and unique vacation spot. It exceeded our expectations in every way. We had so much fun! The house itself—still original, built in 60s—is absolutely gorgeous and is situated in a private oasis lovingly landscaped that provides a wonderful mix of shade and flowers (bird-watching!) and trees and well-kept yard. The view west off the main kitchen and deck affords the most exquisite sunsets and late afternoon light, as well as the perfect ocean breeze at the end of the day. It’s location is equally perfect—close to beaches (Menemsha, Lucy Vincent, Squibnockett, among others) and stores and restaurants, but also feels totally private and rural and relaxing. We rented bikes for the week and had a great time riding them each day to Menemsha or Chilmark for either breakfast, lunch, or dinner. In the summer you can take a bike ferry across the pond to Aquinna which we wish we could have done and will plan on doing next time (it was still closed due to the pandemic). We went to Lucy Vincent Beach every day, which is just extraordinarily beautiful and can’t be beat. We also immensely enjoyed exploring Menemsha Pond (deeded access) via paddling (we brought SUPs but there are kayaks at the house that guests can use), both at low tide (to flyfish for stripers, and to clam/mussel), or high tide (to paddle to one of several beautiful private sandbars to lay in the sun and let our daughters splash around in the shallows and hunt for treasures…the place is brimming with life!). At the end of every day spent on the beach, we all looked forward to using the outdoor shower, which was amazing! Other notes of appreciation: the host is wonderful—Joe provided us with a detailed guide to the area including great suggestions for things to do/restaurants to go to, answered all questions we had in the days and weeks leading up to our visit; the house is well-equipped with beach towels, beach chairs/umbrellas/toys etc; the kitchen is beautiful and is well equipped for feasting/grilling etc. A couple of items to note: it’s a glass house through and through, which also means the walls are quite thin in terms of sound—the upside to that being that you are awoken by the beautiful birdsounds of dawn! No railings on the deck (all spelled out in description and guide), so we had to be a little extra vigilant with our one-year old. All in all we had such a memorable and tremendous time that we have already booked our return for next year!

The home is located near Cove Rd in Menemsha with deeded access to the huge Menemsha Pond and to the nearby beaches. For those who appreciate architecture and history, this is a memorable place. We have been going to MV for over 30 years and stayed in several luxury homes, but this trip will be the one we always remember. The connection to nature is overwhelming. The outdoor shower sounds like an inconvenience (and we were there with temps in the forties!) but is a refreshing, luxurious and invigorating experience. The beds were comfortable and with warm blankets. The kitchen has everything and has been recently updated. Our gourmet chef guest had no complaints!! You can even walk to Menemsha (about a mile) along the dirt road to get our daily dose of fresh chowder and seafood. We went to Larsen's and spoke with the owner most nights, who advised us on how to best order for our recipe planned for that day. Joe, the owner, gets back to you within minutes, always!! He is kind and accommodating and supplies two kayaks for the pond. We were on the pond most days. It was heaven. Thank you, Joe, for providing us an experience with our adult daughters that we will talk about forever. Hope to get a chance to return in the future.
