Very close to the beach for the relaxing weekend

We had an absolutely wonderful vacation here, made all the more magnificent by this delightful “home base.” The house—while exceptionally well appointed with new appliances, a large washer and dryer, and everything one would need for cooking and serving—effortlessly manages to be both functional and cozy. The seating is ample, the beds are comfortable and supportive, and the layout is practical, with bedrooms and restrooms to the roadside while the open design of the living/dining areas allows a comfortable flow through the house and an unobstructed view of the ocean. Outside, having the covered swing is marvelous, giving a beautiful view of the ocean and a cathartic breath of sea air. It rained all day for 2 days of our trip, but the covered swing remained gloriously restful.
The only item that could use some improvement is the deck, as there are a few nail heads rising from the older wood; however, repairs have already begun with deck screws and new treated lumber.
Lastly, the homeowner goes out of their way to assure a pleasant stay. The homeowner was immediately responsive to any questions we had, and worked closely with us so that our stay was memorable. We always felt that if we had any questions or concerns, that an answer would be arriving momentarily.
I cannot say enough about the wonderful time we had in this house and how attentive the homeowner was, and I would unreservedly recommend this beach rental to anyone.

When booked, I went off the 4.8 star rating I saw but did not read actual prior reviews, if I had the one from 2021 still holds for today. My guess, based on my experience is that property owners don't take reviews seriously as I found the state of this property as she described, but with 2 years more of physical deterioration. Luckily we were not planning a lot of time indoors and the weather helped make that a reality, otherwise what turned out to be an ok trip would have been rather unenjoyable. My advice, renter beware.

Let me start by saying I understand the laws of supply and demand and that I rented a beach front property on 4th of July weekend. However, when spending $1000+/night on a property you have a certain level of expectation and this house was far from it. The owners have clearly done nothing to maintain the property outside of collecting large checks from renters. I've rented dozens of beach properties over the past decade and this one was by far the most run down and disappointing. The photos on the website made it seem quaint but inviting. I have no idea how it is a 4.8 star listing. Let me be clear that this house was falling apart. Simply google the address if you want true feedback on the property. Door knobs falling off doors, Roaches on the walls (I have pictures), the refrigerator smelled like rotting fish, the house should be condemned. Even the beach equipment they provide was falling apart. There is not a room in this house that doesnt have multiple issues. I just feel completely bait and switched with this property. So much so that on day 2 we rented another house on the beach and left. I would avoid at all costs. What a waste.

The house was perfect for what we were looking for. Oceanfront, very clean and a t.v. in every bedroom. It is also steps away from a grill which made grabbing food easy. We really enjoyed our stay!

My sister and I brought my mom here for a short stay! She has stage IV ovarian cancer and is very week but it was perfect for her to get to the swing and see and hear the ocean! It was warm/stuffy when we got there, text the owner and they turned the ac on…next day wasn’t as warm and I text because mom was cold and they turned the heat back on! It was wonderful!

My family stayed here for 5 nights. Housekeeping was great, the house was clean and well appointed. Renee arranged for kayaks to be dropped off, which was great as the ocean was very calm during our stay so we used the kayaks on the ocean. The deck was very weather-worn (e.g., splinters on the railing as well as on the flooring), which limited the time we spent enjoying the deck. Also, the City must have made the dune higher since the photos were taken because we couldn't see the beach or the waves crashing from the porch...but you can certainly hear the sounds of the ocean, which were so calming. We loved being able to walk to the playground and to several ice cream shops after dinner -- a great location!

Well folks I have been going to oak island for 10 years plus now and have rented from the big names down their ,and hands down they don't hold a candle to this little house on the beach or the Owners, and we will be coming back

We had a great time at PO BOY. It is really well located, accurately listed as far as space and amenities are concerned. Loved the porch and easy access to the beach. I will highly recommend this place.

The location of this property is fantastic, we LOVED the swing overlooking the beach and the beach access. Owner very responsive to texts. Our only concern was the condition of the deck, some sections can definitely use some repair/updates.

We’ll stocked and appointed home right on the water with amazing gazebo and swing. Cute home with comfortably large king bed in master! Convenient to everything but very quiet. Will certainly return. Thank you!

We loved the huge fridge, the ice maker, the fact that it’s one level living, and the kitchen had all the pots/pans/utensils we needed. Beds are comfy, and the house is so easy to get to and close to a Publix. Even had chairs for us to use on the beach. We also loved the swing. We would stay here again!

This house was wonderful. Open with plenty of room and Cozy in the evening. Loved being on the beach front, Swinging in the gazebo with our Granddaughter, playing and sitting on the Screened porch in the evening. Was the best weekend weather was great! Wonderfully!

The screen porch is heaven on earth, as well as the gazebo. Only steps away from the beach, we could feel the stress just fading away during our too short stay. I cooked a giant Thanksgiving meal in the kitchen, everything worked great with the exception of the back left burner on the stove. But, that didn't stop us from having great food, great fun and a great stay. Thank you to Renee, who was such a delight with whom to work. We appreciate you sharing your historic home with us.

It had nice features that made it beach-friendly: an outdoor shower, as well as a hose on the gazebo; a big ice maker under the kitchen counter, which was accessible from the dining room). The refrigerator was huge, and there were plenty of dishes, pots, pans, etc. TVs were in the main room and bedrooms. Bathrooms were great. There was plenty of space for my friend and me, for sure. Maybe the nicest touches were the swing on the gazebo, where we had coffee each morning, and the screened in porch, where we had dinner each nice. From what we could see up and down the beach, such features were rare in other homes (e.g., open, unsheltered decks).

However, the house upkeep/maintenance was poor overall and not in keeping with the charged price. Some things were frankly not safe for children: the door frames/wood trim in the house were broken with pieces sticking out, there were several wood rail sections on the deck that were not secure. There was mildew on the shower curtains. There was also just too much furniture where we found it cramped with just 3 adults and 1 baby. All of these issues could be resolved with simple upkeep and maintenance. I’m actually really surprised that these issues did not come up in previous reviews. We essentially never give negative reviews but we felt compelled to share our experience. We were very surprised given the price.

This home was a fantastic experience! I had friends flying in from California with their 3 teenage daughters and wanted them to have a taste of the NC coast. We couldn't have found a better place! This is vintage beach house with all the nice touches you would expect to find in a home that's been lovingly enjoyed for generations. Our stay coincided with hurricane Elsa passing thru the area and I just have to comment on how solidly built this home is! A lot of the other homes sit on wooden stilts but this house actually sits on cement pillars. It has passed the test of time. It just might be one of the most solid structures on the island! I would definitely stay here again and liked it so much I wouldn't even bother shopping around for other places. This home just has a certain charm to it, and that alone makes it well worth it. No regrets!

This home was a fantastic experience! I had friends flying in from California with their 3 teenage daughters and wanted them to have a taste of the NC coast. We couldn't have found a better place! This is vintage beach house with all the nice touches you would expect to find in a home that's been lovingly enjoyed for generations. Our stay coincided with hurricane Elsa passing thru the area and I just have to comment on how solidly built this home is! A lot of the other homes sit on wooden stilts but this house actually sits on cement pillars. It has passed the test of time. It just might be one of the most solid structures on the island! I would definitely stay here again and liked it so much I wouldn't even bother shopping around for other places. This home just has a certain charm to it, and that alone makes it well worth it. No regrets!

Perfect location for downtime at the beach
I made this as a last minute reservation to celebrate my birthday and mother's day for my sister and we took my 2.5yr old nephew with us. The location is perfect- within a walking distance (or 2-3min drive) to several restaurants and a park. The house is lovely and perfectly decorated to match the coastal/beach vibe. The beds are comfortable and everything is supplied - linens, towels, fully functional kitchen with any necessary utensils, everything needed for a trip to the beach - beach chairs, Frisbee, sandbox toys for kids, etc. The reservation process was very easy, Renee was great to communicate with and the check in and check out process was easy to follow. Loved the step by step directions! We had a wonderful time and they are already looking for a return trip this fall.
