My college girlfriends and I meet up for a much needed reunion. The check-in process was easy and the cabin was clean. We enjoyed Maiden Rock Winery and Cidery and had lunch and did some shopping in Red Wing. The hot tub was a nice touch. Great place for a reunion or girls weekend.

We enjoyed our stay at the Lion Downe Cottage! The views are amazing and the vibes inside the cottage are warm and cozy. The hosts were excellent and very responsive. It is essentially just one large room, so definitely bring your ear plugs if you're a light sleeper!

Great place for a family get away. No distractions, beautiful property, large deck with hot tub, huge diningroom table for shared meals and game playing. Large livingroom area with fireplace for gathering.

My husband and I stayed for three nights. We enjoyed the fireplace and surroundings.

Couldn't have a more picturesque setting or gorgeous accomodation for our moms group annual weekend getaway, it was absolutely perfect!

What a unique cabin in a private setting! The view from the deck was amazing! The welcome gift was such a thoughtful touch. I would like to also add that Rob went above and beyond when I left something behind. He not only contacted me by phone call and text to notify me, but also very graciously mailed it to me. Thank you for a lovely stay!

There is no doubt that this property is beautiful and cabin cozy. The view from the deck and hot tub can't be beat. The hot tub was listed as new, however it was not and did not work for the last night of our trip which was a big bummer as that was a big reason we paid the premium price to stay at this VRBO. The hosts also market the property as sleeping up to 13, however charge an additional $25 per person after 1 person, which is very misleading in general and sets a certain expectation. Our group was confused what these additional fees paid for as we didn't feel the place was super clean upon arrival (we swept up many bugs and dirt on the main floor when we first arrived). Also small things like the watered down soap offered, lack of paper towels, etc. that you'd normally find in most standard rentals – that didn't sit well when required to pay an extra per person fee. It wasn't an issue for our group, but it's worth it to mention that all but one of the bedrooms are completely lofted and in an open space. Bedroom 2 is really a loft, with the second bed being in a cabinet. It wasn't a problem for our group, but something to note. Overall, it’s a beautiful property and fun space, but don’t think the price matches the value.

A great place tucked off the road. Beautiful surroundings filled with awesome fall colors/weather. A calm and peaceful place to share with friends and family. A nice big kitchen with a comfortable table that easily seat all of us. The fireplace is epic as it is the overall tranquility of being nestled in the woods & incredible views. Super rolling farmland hills for walking. Fun and friendly close by towns for interesting gift shopping.
Thank you!

My friends and I really enjoyed our stay at the Lion Downe Cottage for a long weekend. We really liked, what we call the 'hobbit room' in the basement. It is like a stoned in 3-season room with screens and comfy furniture. We sat out there quite a while watching a thunderstorm for a few hours. My one complaint is too many bees on the deck, but after all, we are in the woods and bees are part of nature. The other thing I would like to comment on is the beds in the loft are not accessible to 50+ year old ladies, so the bedding situation was a little tight for 8 of us. Otherwise, the cabin is very beautiful, unique, and very secluded. Loved it.

We loved the Lions Downe! There were little things like a nightlight by the toilet, lots of outlets for charging, lots of blankets that were added bonuses. The owners went above and beyond to acquire a wheelchair for us that we forgot to rent! Which made things for my husband a lot easier! We really enjoyed the beautiful view and hot tub!

Lion Downe Cottage is absolutely beautiful!
We loved everything about it, the pictures do not do it justice!
The view from the deck was stunning and we loved sitting in the sun room and just relaxing.
It was secluded and private and peaceful which was exactly what we were looking for.
The owners are very responsive and it was a very easy check in.
Would definitely stay again, I can imagine the fall colors would be breathtaking!

We loved the chalet/rustic wood and stone design of the exterior. The interior was also cleverly designed and fun to explore. Our family enjoyed their stay. The home was well stocked and supplied with kitchen items.
The only drawback was sleeping. With the open design it was easy to hear most of the other people during the night. A problem if you have snorers. Also, with no window coverings, it’s easy to wake with the dawn.

Our favorite escape with all the ingredients for a comfortable and blissful oasis. The huge hot tub with view and lower level magical grotto are fabulous!

This is a beautiful location and a very unique home that has everything you need. There were a few very minor maintenance items, but nothing that impacted our stay or complete enjoyment of the home.
We enjoyed the hot tub every morning, the house stayed cool during the hottest days of the summer, and there were plenty of different sleeping options and places to get away to, if needed.
There were plenty of towels, all the kitchen equipment you need, reliable Internet, lots of good seating, and the property is incredibly private and quiet. It was a great escape from the city with friends, and we visited the towns of Red Wing, Wabasha, Pepin, and Stockholm to enhance our time.
The owners were responsive and provide everything you need through the VRBO site. We will definitely consider staying here again!

This is the most awesome place to stay! You really dont know what you are missing. We did several things in the area but were just excited to get back to the Lion Downe Cottage for relaxation, games, the hot tub and just enjoy the gorgeous view! The welcoming gift was a nice surprise and we hope to enjoy it again in the future! Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your very special property!

Lion Downe Cottage was amazing for our group of 10. The property was beautiful and unique - it made us feel like we were at a luxury fairy tale cottage, with the most beautiful views. We had absolutely everything we needed. The owner was very responsive with the one question we had during our stay. The beds were very comfortable, the showers great, and plenty of towels for 10 people. Even a well stocked game/puzzle room! I cant say enough - we would definitely return here.

We made our second trip to the cottage in the past 5 years. The property owners take amazing care and upgrade the property as needed. We plan to visit again!

Some parts were excellent, others need work. Noticed several maintenance issues and some cleaning issues. For example, the hot tub had dirt in the bottom, likely from a previous customer, and the water in it appeared a greenish color.
It’s probably a fine location for a couple families, but we were a group of 8 seniors on a golfing trip, so the sleeping arrangements weren’t really good. Probably somewhat our fault, but the pictures made it difficult to see that.
The owner was very responsive to our overall issues.

Such an amazing stay! We absolutely loved sitting out enjoying the view. The hot tub, sunroom and deck chairs were fabulous for enjoying the view. There were not any listed sunroom photos but it was my absolute favorite room with beautiful rock wall and furniture that was so fairy tale like. It just felt like a castle room to me. The whole place was so magical with the rounded doors the wood beams and wood used throughout the cottage. The path going to the house and every room was just so fun for me and the group. It was a fantastic experience. The only negatives would be that the stairs for both upstairs and downstairs were a little steep/narrow and not the best for the 83 year old in the group. The adventure layout of the beds worked for the group as everyone was able to get a bed that fitted their needs. The kids loved the ladder up to two of the beds and I had a bed that worked for me. The beds were all very comfortable. It worked as the main group was fine with going to bed and waking up at the same time as it is an open area. It made it more of a group experience though and not necessarily a negative thing that the main area is open concept. The stairs would be fine but with one person at 83 with some health issues I was nervous for him every time on the stairs. The majority of the house was just more magical in person then the photos can fully capture. Both the shower are small and bathroom are a little dated but just a spectacular experience overall.

This house is absolutely stunning, and features one of the nicest views that can be enjoyed from the dining room table, the kitchen, the master bedroom and the deck (and hot tub). It is so peaceful, private and the owners are so kind and excellent at communicating. They left us some really nice welcome-gifts. We’ll absolutely be back!

The owners are amazing quick communicators and I really appreciated their understanding with navigating some of the booking process. The pictures *do not* do this place justice, the views alone were stunning and worth the trip. Everyone unanimously agreed that the property made us all feel like we were Hobbits. Thank you to the owners for sharing this property with strangers, what an experience!

We loved the property. it was very relaxing and the hot tub was wonderful even in the snow! But get clear directions to the place...it is over 2 miles off the Wisconsin highway 35. Only sign for the property is a large gate, which stands at an angle and is quite weathered....not very visible, especially at night.

This is a beautiful home with stunning views! Great property for wedding parties, families or large groups. However, this is not a home for anyone with mobility issues. The path from the driveway to the home is very steep and rocky. Two of the beds are short twins in a loft about 15-20 feet above the living room that you have to use a 90-degree ladder to get into. Another bed is in a nook about 8 ft high in a stairwell that you need a step stool to get into (needs a wider, more sturdy step stool). Seven of us on a girl's trip stayed and were counting on using all the beds but no one felt comfortable climbing that ladder. So, two shared the king bed and one slept on the couch which was not comfortable. Would recommend updating the description and photos. Overall, we had a great trip. We loved the hot tub, the screened in patio, the fireplace, wildlife, gorgeous views, and the long dining table. Beautiful home.

If you are looking for an idyllic, winter wonderland getaway not far from home, this is it. The home and surroundings are picture-perfect, particularly surrounded by freshly fallen snow. The stone fireplace is magnificent, the space is large yet intimate, and the amenities are all top-notch. A truly special experience.

We just finished a fantastic 5 night stay Lion Downe Cottage. It is warm and cozy, and we had a wonderful time sitting by the fire reading, playing games, and watching movies. Our furry friends really enjoyed the fenced dog run. It gave us peace of mind and tired them out. It's a perfect winter getaway spot, and we're considering a return for summer or fall, if not next winter again.

We loved our stay! Enjoyed a night out to dinner in Red Wing (not too far away). Beautiful views and love that we spent an entire day at the VRBO and soaked up the sun shining into the cottage, time in the hot tub and just BEING at the cottage. Quick and easy communication with owners. A bit of a hike to the actual cottage from where you park which was tricky with the ice, but they salted well which we appreciated. Would love to visit again, especially in the summer time to be able to enjoy the 3-season porch and the property more! Filled all who stayed with such joy! Loved the selection of games and DVDs to enjoy while we relaxed! Easy check-out and have all the things you need in the kitchen!

We rented this cabin for my sister's bachelorette party and had a wonderful time. The best part was the amazing views it had to offer overlooking Lake Pepin. It was a beautifully frosty weekend with a recent snow fall and this cabin was perfectly cozy! The entry had tons of space for everyone's boots and jackets. We had a full house and we loved that there were spaces like the laundry room and game closet where we could keep bags/bedding during the day so that we could have a gathering space for everyone. The bathroom in the lower level was also a notable feature- separated vanity from toilet from shower was great for getting ready. The kitchen was well stocked with all utensils/dishes/cookware that we needed for the weekend. Overall, this was a GEM of a find. Thank you Robert and Heather!!
