The house was great, the deck and various outdoor spots are excellent additions to the house. We were close to everything and found the location very convenient! Bill was very easy to communicate with!

This home was very clean and comfortable. The owners really care about the property and it definitely shows. The view was beautiful and we were able to walk to downtown Carmel. We wish that we could have stayed longer.

Atherton Cottage out did its pictures. Wonderful, immaculate property with all conveniences you could ever need. The Crossroads shopping center was just a mile away with everything from River House Books to Safeway. When we arrived Bill spent 30 minutes with our onboarding and then at our last minute request made up the queen size sofa bed which had an amazingly comfortable tempur-pedic mattress. We flipped coins and my friend got the pull-out and raved about it! I love to walk and this was the perfect spot to start from. Just down the road was the historic Spanish Mission and just a few blocks beyond the Mission Ranch Inn & Restaurant where we had stayed 30 years earlier - spruced up over the years but still rustic and warming with wonderful food. From there the walk out along Scenic Road that skirts the ocean was breath taking. When we booked the four nights we did not realize this was the famous (infamous?) car week that turns the entire Monterey peninsula into wall to wall traffic. How wonderful to have this quiet beautiful cottage to retreat to where in the evenings we watched the last 4 episodes of Ted Lasso on the big screen TV.

The house was beautiful and in a lovely neighborhood. The bed was so comfy! We loved being so close to town. Thank you! :)

The Atherton Cottage was one of the most relaxing and peaceful places I have experienced. Bill, the owner, is so great. He walked us through the property which was super helpful, he gave great recommendations for groceries and restaurants (definitely check out Bruno's downtown), and he was a text away if we needed anything. Super private surroundings with beautiful foliage. The pictures don't do it justice! Bed was very comfortable. Very close to both downtown Carmel/beaches, as well as convenient shopping at the Crossroads Shopping Center on the other side of Hwy 1. I highly recommend it!

My husband and I are so happy we found Atherton Cottage. Beautifully landscaped foliage outside with a tastefully decorated interior makes this a lovely sanctuary. There is plenty of outdoor space for lounging, relaxing, grilling, dining, or enjoying a cup of coffee as the sun rises. It was perfect for us two, but there is room for more with a luxury pull-out sofa in the living room. It is located close to many of Carmel's and Monteray's famous landmarks, shopping, and culinary delights yet far enough away from the crowds. We were delighted to find we only had a 7-minute drive from the airport when we arrived late in the evening. Which meant we didn't waste precious vacation time getting there. The closeness to the airport does not mean a noisy stay! There are a number of stairs to get to the property's front door. Although I wore a knee brace, I had no difficulty. There is a second entry that is less of an incline. It is quiet and safe, with many high-end features from the comfy adjustable bed to plush blankets, you can tell it is well cared for, and thoughtfully arranged and Bill has taken great pride in providing amenities to help his guest feel comfortable. We felt at home and welcomed by Bill's hospitality. If you're looking for a place to draw away and find rest, we highly recommend Atherton Cottage.

The property was amazing! Great location, modern amenities, and very clean. Mr. Bill was the best host I've had on VRBO, making the stay even better!

We just stayed 2 nights but really enjoyed the cottage. It was cozy and comfortable and the peace and quiet was very appreciated. The cottage has a lot of great amenities although it would take a longer stay to enjoy all of them.

The house was appointed with everything I could possibly imagine i might need; And more!! The bed was a fantastic nights sleep. The place was the perfect size for my two pups and I!! I loved having coffee on the deck! We walked to most things and felt the place was the perfect location for our walking needs. We will stay there again.

The perfect place for my wife and I to spend some quality time. The host takes a lot of pride in making his place somewhere you just want to stay when you arrive. We had a full agenda and ended up just hanging around the house more than anticipated. So nice!

Bill was an exceptional host! He was very kind and friendly. When I arrived he gave me a short 5 minute tour of the property and then left me on my own, I never saw him again, but he was available by text any time I had a problem. The cottage was perfect! It had everything I needed and many personal touches. The two gas fireplaces and outdoor spaces were really nice :) This is how a VRBO stay should be. I felt right at home. I would definitely stay again!

Bill is an amazing host. This property has had a lot of thought and energy put into it to make it very cozy, comfortable, and convenient. The two fire places are wonderful and the house had every convenience we needed. Everything was very clean and neat. There’s also multiple outdoor spaces where you can go enjoy some fresh air and lovely gardens. This is an absolutely wonderful place to stay!

The cottage is a quaint, very clean, and thoughtfully laid out property. We spent two nights here with our pup, and particularly enjoyed the privacy and multitude of outdoor areas the cottage offers. Bill was also a terrific host. He gave us a full rundown of the property upon arrival (which was late), and was communicative throughout our stay. 10/10 would stay again!

We had an excellent stay at Bill’s house! He was very knowledgeable about places to eat, hiking, and the region. He is extremely attentive to all details and the house is well appointed with everything you need. There are many outdoor decks overlooking gorgeous landscaping. We ate in one night and used the very cool mini convection oven, and there is every utensil you could want. The bed is super comfortable and even adjustable. The location is close to Carmel by the Sea and you can walk or take a 5-minute drive into town. Spectacular hiking is just 10-15 minutes drive at Point Lobos, Soberanes Canyon or any of the beaches. We highly recommend!

Upon our arrival, the owner kindly showed me around and pointed out all of the amenities. The house is decorated with high quality furnishings and every consideration was taken to insure any guest would feel that they were staying at the highest quality accommodations. Our family loves staying at the Atherton Cottage when we visit Carmel for a few relaxing days at the beach. The cottage is tastefully decorated, always clean, and has everything we need. Communicating with Bill for check in and questions is always easy. The location is perfect; close to Carmel state beach and the shops. We look forward to coming back again.

My husband and I decided to skip the family gatherings this year for Christmas and find a little getaway with our two miniature schnauzers. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to spend the weekend. Bill was an amazing host and showed us around the property on the first day. You can tell he has put so much love and passion into this space; aside from the great cottage itself there are winding paths and secret gardens to enjoy. The place is just a short jaunt from a great dog beach and wonderful neighborhoods to walk through. And downtown Carmel is only a matter of minutes away in a car. The cottage met all of our expectations. It was clean, had nicely updated appliances, and a fireplace in each room to keep things cozy. We will definitely be going back soon!

The cottage is very private and the grounds are beautiful. The deck off the kitchen is very nice and stays warm due to the glass enclosure. The bed is very comfortable and the host, Bill provided us with all the information we needed for our stay and there were ample amenities. This is a very quiet location . Thank you!

Charming cottage in a very convenient location near downtown Carmel village, close to ocean, restaurants, stores.

This one bedroom house is freestanding and super private. The cleanliness and amenities are first rate, and Bill is really helpful about navigating the house and surroundings. The outdoor areas have chaise lounges and sitting areas, plus a BBQ. Great trails nearby that can get you to downtown without walking on streets. Really beautiful and dog friendly. The Crossroads and The Barnyard are nice shopping and dining areas and are a two minute drive. The Mission is a half block from the house, and Carmel beach is a 5 minute drive. Love this house. Probably the best VRBO we have ever stayed in. Cozy and special.

This charming cottage is a great getaway within walking distance for all Carmel has to offer.

Lovely small cottage close to everything. However I increased my budget based on the listing description of "Vast ocean views looking out at waves breaking on rocks & sandy beach". There is no ocean view/no waves/no rocks or beach, so that was a real disappointment.

We checked into the cottage for a work-week-long stay in Carmel. The cottage was exactly as described and had everything you needed for relaxing. We brought our two "velcro" Springer Spaniels and the yard and house were perfect for them. They could lounge safely on the deck or with us in the house. I like to cook a couple of nights and the kitchen was well-stocked with nice cooking accessories. We BBQ'd and had a great couple of dinners at home. It was also wonderful that Bill supplied some morning coffee and a few cooking items such as spices and olive oil. The location was also excellent - close to the Crossroads for essentials and a couple minutes to downtown Carmel. I was really looking forward to using the beautiful fireplaces, but Carmel gave us a couple of really warm days. So, didn't use much of the fireplace and instead enjoyed the deck and beach. This is a very comfortable, quiet, and convenient location for a relaxing Carmel stay.

Atherton cottage is the perfect place for my husband and me plus our two small dogs. The decor is beautiful, and it is very comfortable especially the bed. A lot of thought went into every amenity with no detail missed. Very close to restaurants, the dog beach and mission trail. This is the second time we stayed and plan to do it again.

We loved this place. The kitchen was fully equipped and the property was easily accessible to the beach either on foot or with a short 4 min. car ride. Close also to the Sonoma Mission, Crossroads, and the charming center of Carmel. Two lovely, sunny decks and beautiful gardens made for a restful stay. The bed was comfortable and the furnishings were lovely. We hated to leave and will stay longer next time! Communication with the owner was very clear and easy.
