We first stayed at The Bear Den last October. It was the perfect place to come back to after a long day of hiking. The hot tub, the recliners, and the fireplace all contributed to making it cozy and relaxing especially when we were sore and worn out 🙃. Great view out the back, and we even saw several elk walk right up the driveway! The bed was also quite comfortable. The best part though is that Don is a great host who goes out of his way to be helpful—we found this out when we decided to extend a vacation this winter by coming back to Maggie Valley after spending a week in Banner Elk. On short notice Don went above and beyond to accommodate us and it really capped off our trip on a high note.
The location is great as well, only about 5 minutes away from Joey’s Pancake House in one direction (get there early in peak season, though not nearly as busy in winter), and the Blue Ridge Parkway in the other (both directions were closed for the winter but it was open right at the junction where you can access one trailhead).
One thing to be aware of is that Google Maps doesn’t think you can turn left from the main road onto the drive—it will try to send you on a weird double-back-and-around route but we soon learned that it’s easier to ignore that and turn left (if you have a very large SUV it might be hard to make the turn, but for reference a Kia Sportage did just fine).

The view was amazing. The house was pristine clean and very adequately supplied. First time I have stayed at a VRBO and not had to go buy paper towels. The owner gave detailed instructions about the security system, tv, etc. The owner also made a lot of recommendations of places to eat. We will definitely be back.

This property was perfect for two of us to get away for Thanksgiving. House was decorated for Christmas and was very nicely furnished. It was close to Maggie Valley and a short drive to Waynesville. We will stay again if we are traveling alone.

Very lovely maintained home. Never stayed anywhere cleaner. View was spectacular. Mr. Don was very helpful and responed fast to my inquiries. Enjoyed my stay there very much. Hope to go back one day.

We were hoping for rest & relaxation & we were not disappointed - we are an older couple & this place was perfect for us!! We really enjoyed our morning coffee on the porch swing, afternoons relaxing in the hot tub & evening meals outside by the fire pit. We had plenty of entertainment with watching all the hummingbirds & an occasional visit by the elk. We loved this place & hope to return again soon!! Don is an amazing host!!!

Excellent property. So clean. Easy to get in and out of town. Beautiful view from the porch. Hot tub is wonderful and has a deck built up that it sits down in so it's a matter of just sitting down and swinging your feet over. Perfect for anyone with back issues. Easy steps in the door but if you find those 3 too difficult you can go around the side and use the steps by the hot tub which are even shallower. Covered deck with porch swing was great. Hummingbirds were fun to watch. Don is very easy to work with. We'll be back! Thank you.

This whole transaction went exceptionably well from beginning to end. Don the owner, is great to work with as he answers your questions immediately and doesn't keep you waiting for answers.
The home is very nice. The hot tub is clean and inviting. I found myself very relaxed during our stay.
There are two hummingbird feeders on the back porch and a family of at least six different birds continuously visiting even when I was inches from the feeder.
The home is well stocked and we found everything in great working order. We intend to return next year.

It’s easy to find off the main highway and road but secluded quiet with a perfect view. Have stayed here multiple times and it’s always amazing

This home/spot was one of our favorites! We have stayed in many VRBO rentals and by far this was one of the best.
Home was very clean and best bed ever for a rental. We enjoyed the area and will definitely be back. Don was a very gracious host. Check in with us through email to make sure all was well and asked us to reach out if we needed anything. Would give 10 stars if it was available!

This property was exactly as expected from the pictures and description on line. My husband and I were looking to getaway Thanksgiving week and the location on this home was perfect to explore Maggie Valley and the surrounding areas.
Communication with Don was very easy and he gave us some great restaurant suggestions. His home is comfy and homey!
We had a real treat (twice) of seeing Elk walking across the property below us. There was no need to go searching for them.

We have stayed at this awesome property many times. It's very comfortable and cozy. We love having our morning coffee on the porch and looking at the leaves and mountains. It's just a short drive into downtown Maggie Valley and Waynesville. We saw so many families of Elk this year, they walked right down the road in front of the house. Beautiful animals.

This was our 3rd stay at Bear Den! We love this place & Maggie Valley. The host Don is very easy to communicate with, the views are amazing! We love to sit on the porch on the porch swing in the afternoons, this trip we actually had elk in the neighborhood. One evening we had 2 come right thru the yard in front of the porch. The wind chimes have to be my favorite sound! We will be back!

He even recommended several restaurants in the area which were all very good. This was an ideal location for us as we wanted to visit both Asheville and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The hot tub was a plus after a day of hiking and you couldn't ask for a better view!

This is our third visit to the property. It is well maintained, very clean, extremely comfortable. Don has trimmed a few trees and the panoramic view of the mountains is glorious. He is prompt in returning calls and answering questions. Plan to return again.

Paradise
This was our first time visiting Maggie Valley and we are already looking forward to planning our next stay!
We came down to get together with family and then participate in the slingshot event.
The house was absolutely amazing. The views and peaceful setting was perfect.
It was so clean and had everything we needed. The kitchen had great cookware. We also used the BBQ to grill. We loved starting our day on the front porch with coffee and taking in the beautiful Mountain View.
The beds were very comfortable and the quality of the towels was first class.
Checking in was super easy. Don did a great job providing all the information that was needed to feel comfortable in the house. Anytime I had a question, he was quick to respond.
The location is so convenient to explore so many quaint towns. The restaurants that were recommended were wonderful. We found ourselves going back to them more than once..
I always travel with a bin of kitchen spices, tin cooking trays, foil, Saran Wrap, paper goods and storage bags to keep down cost . When we did go to the grocery store, it was a short ride and a great selection.
We ended our day in the hot tub with cocktails discussing our day and just how much fun we had. There is a lot to do in the area. Great location for families of all ages.
Staying at theBear Den was just perfect. It just made vacationing so much easier because it was like being at home with everything at your fingertips.
We would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful
The house and the view were absolutely beautiful! Watching the elk in the yard below Thanksgiving morning was a bonus! The beds were very comfortable as was the layout of the house. It was nice to be close to Maggie Valley but not right in the heart of it! Would definitely stay again!

Perfect getaway
The house was clean and tidy with a great view of the fall colors of the mountains surrounding Maggie Valley. Close to everything. Hiking in the Smokey’s was perfect. Don was responsive and provided good tips for our stay. We would certainly stay there again.

This is our second year at Bear Den. We absolutely love this home and the views, the colors changes daily. Don, the property owner is very helpful and communicates great! Very convenient to go to Maggie Valley or Cherokee. Thanks again for a wonderful 60th birthday celebration. See you next year, booking on Monday.
