Grace Hotel Semporna

This hotel is an island of calm in the midst of noise, garbage, crowds and beggars. I guess it’s location could be considered ok, if you like pushy, voracious and inconsiderate tourist crowds from a large Asian country, intent on consuming vast amounts of seafood. My advice is to stay inside the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was fine, and they give out reusable shopping bags to combat the overwhelming plastic pollution in the surrounding sea.

The hotel provides breakfast vouchers for several local restaurants. This is fine, but one needs to be sure of what is actually covered by the voucher when presented to the restaurant. In the café next door, the staff indicated several items (e.g. juice) which were not covered by the voucher, implying inclusion, but then charging for them. The coffee included was pre-made, but ground coffee cost a lot extra.

The room was clean and if you are heading to the Sipadan or Mabul island the dive shops are just few meters away. 7-11 store next door.

The reception staff could use more they beautiful smiles. The young lady look so angry and was not very friendly. The room was filled with different signs what is not allowed in the hotel. They check room when you are doing a check-out and that took a long time. Not worth the money.

Arrived 2 hours early and no attempt was made to facilitate an earlier move into the room.
