Cristal Palace Hotel

Cristal Palace is a well-run hotel with excellent views over the town and to the mountains beyond. It has a luxurious feel, a good spa area with decent-sized pool, and plenty of (rather tight) parking. The bar had a very good pianist/singer one night; really enjoyable and very rare these days.

The trade-off for the great views is quite a steep walk back from the town. The initial greeting was, although well-intentioned, not ideal: rather than let us wheel our bags to our room, they insisted that we go for a free glass of fruit juice in the bar while our bags were magically taken for us. Then, after the drink, we were escorted to the room by a nice lady who didn't actually know where it was. After a very long journey, we really just wanted to go straight to the room and lie down; we could have done without this vestige of 1920s luxury.

The bedroom was excellent. Breakfasts were good, once one had worked out where the various food items were situated in the self-service area.

The only negative factor was dinner in the evening. Very limited choice and small portions. After I found out that a complete fixed price meal was available for 35 euros matters improved, but this was not explained to me initially.

you have to book the SPA because it’s too small and we couldn’t go in the afternoon after skiing.. so we went the following morning and the water of the pool was COLD that we couldn’t even use it. the location is also not great you have to use the car to go anywhere, both downtown and at the ski lifts
