Rainha Santa Isabel - Óbidos History Hotel

Obidos is a city surrounded by an intact 14th century wall, containing many centuries-old buildings, and where modern development has been prohibited since 1951 {now almost a century ago}. This small {20 room} hotel is one of a very few opportunities for tourists to stay within the walls. It is family-operated by very pleasant people. Our group's two rooms were large, and had functional bathrooms with operational showers. The beds were comfortable. There is a nice lobby sitting area, and a breakfast room on that level. During the day, the main street outside the hotel is packed with visitors who come on busses that park outside of the walls, or who drive and park outside of the town. During the evening, the crowds subside, and at night the area is quiet. We packed light, with only light carry-on size bags. This was helpful as it was NOT possible to drive past an upper hourly lot outside the town gates to drop bags as a popular guidebook suggests. After scouting the area, we took our rental car to a free surface lot below the city, and walked in. The hotel staff stored our bags while we visited the town. The provided breakfast was self-service and continental style, but adequate.

We were fortunate to arrive just as blazing hot summer weather gave way to cool and breezy evenings, as our room's portable air conditioner was not functional due to an obstructed vent.

Great location in the centre. Comfortable room with great view. Friendly and helpful staff. Decent breakfast. Excellent all round.

This is a comfortable hotel. I particularly liked that there was an inviting sitting room as an alternative to propping on a bed when reading etc.

Bathroom zink was new., that’s about the best to say. Breakfast was decent.

Old. Could now open door in the room, that really needed fresh air. No wonder there is mold in the room.
