The two ladies on reception were helpful when we arrived because a gentlemen booked the wrong date for our stay which had to be rectified.

We were allocated room 409 but the carpet was dirty and the chair was marked. Reception then allocated us a different room 609. The toilet bowl was filthy and stained dark brown, the seat was broken and the toilet holder was missing. There was black mould on the waste pipes underneath the sink, also on the ceiling.the bath taps were discoloured and grey. We wanted to leave immediately and asked for a refund but no one was available to authorise it. We have since sent an email to [email protected] hotels on 12th of June but have not received any response at all. A young man from reception came to clean the toilet but it was still stained perhaps too difficult to remove.

Sadly, this hotel has just added to our disappointment with Mercure hotels in recent years. The hotel felt dull, dark and in need of a bit of love. The restaurant was only open Mon-Thurs (thankfully we arrived on a Thursday) and the menu consisted of two choices for main course. We had travelled a considerable distance that day and really didn't want to go out exploring (nor indeed was there anywhere local to eat). This experience is similar to a couple of other trips. The cheaper alternative of an Ibis hotel (same chain - Accor) have never let us down.

Breakfast and evening meal were okay. Staff friendly and helpful. Location good for city centre.

I didn't take breakfast, choosing a lie in instead, having been kept awake until 5 am by the night club opposite my window.

No hot water and a night club opposite my window and very little sound proofing on the window.

The staff deserve a better hotel. The hotel needs a make over. Definitely not value for money

Very friendly staff at reception; easy to reach, with own (not guarded) car park, location in a small park, right in the centre. Good breakfast.

no possibility to charge an electric of hybrid car. Rooms a bit old-fashioned in style. We were first offered a room in which some heavy smoker had just stayed. It was solved in seconds (got another room).

Good breakfast. Free parking. Located just outside the old part of Besancon, surrounded by a Parc.

Room has carpets. Arriving by car is a little bit tricky: the entrance is not well marked and you can only enter from one direction, therefore if you miss the entrance you have to turn twice.

Are hotels ever be re-rated? That one definitely does not deserve 4*s, maybe back in the 80th when everything was new and fresh. Smelly bathroom which hardly va be used. Breakfast is mediocre.
