Guesthouse Bon

Mr. Bon is a very good and incredibly helpful person. The house has a great atmosphere, and the room was very clean and decorated in a traditional style. The location is a bit off the beaten path, yet all the essentials—such as a pharmacy, a shop, and a bus stop—are nearby. I highly recommend both the place and the owner himself, who is delightful.

Literally nothing

It’s a cheap and convenient accommodation in Kyoto with an amazing host, the nicest guy and very generous, always offering to help. Also rental bikes were very convenient.

However, the place itself has a problem: the walls are thin like paper. Since there’s a few different bedrooms very close together and you hear people talk or laugh as if they were in the same room, if you’re a light sleeper or they decide to wake up at 5am, you won’t be able to rest. And if you want to be considerate to your neighbors, you will also have to spend your time whispering/moving like a ninja so not the most relaxing thing. If you sleep like a rock or don’t mind basic comfort (the mats are also not the best) it’s still a great base camp to explore Kyoto with an amazing host and a cheap price.

Amazing stay! Bon-san was so hospitable and accommodating, helped us with finding places to eat at, he was there for us from the beginning to the end of our stay. Excellent service through and through, not to mention a quiet room, comfortable futon and tatami, very nice common room; everything was clean and accessible. It definitely made our stay in Kyoto even better. The fact that a cute shōten street is right around the corner (Ōmiya dōri!), and so it the Daitoku temple makes it an easy 10/10.

The guest house was very clean and organized, much better than a guest house I visited while in London.

I bonked my head on a low overhang on the stairwell, so I would have preferred more padding on that low part of the ceiling.
