Kinloch Wilderness Retreat

Kinloch is a beautiful location at the end of the lake. Great starting point for excellent walking in the hills & gorge nearbye. Warm friendly staff and delicious food as well. Even though we arrived late Toni managed to provide a very tasty venison stew and a brownie - perfect. Quaint old style rooms.

An excellent stay. We enjoyed the Weka room, a good heater and the option for a bath with scented salts after our walk. While we appreciated the hot tub, the chlorine was a bit drying for our skin. The commercial kitchen was excellent, providing everything needed for coffee and meals, including ample fridge space. The wet boot cupboard was also very useful for our gear. We enjoyed a lovely dinner and a great 15km return hike to Flats Hut on the Routeburn Track one day, and Lake Sylvan for canopied covered well laid out trail through mostly a forest with beautiful mossy setting despite the rainy weather.

Beautiful location

Lodge is in a great location if you are hiking in the area. The Kitchen is clean and well organised with everything you need.

Dishonest Management. Overcharge with a hidden 2.5% cc charge when they took payment that is not included in the booking com fees (that include all taxes and fees) and you cannot avoid as they take payment before you arrive. Checkin staff then tell you its booking dot coms's mistake. Really poor bunks that are unstable and wobble when you climb into top bunk.
